Chapter 206 - Money Was More Important
The Bigshot Shocks The World When She Backs Home
Yu Jing still hadnât announced her expulsion from the sect. This made Cheng Wei confident that it wouldnât come to that point at all, that her master wouldnât go to such lengths.
Besides, it wasnât as if she had committed some fatal mistake.
By all accounts, she remained as the number one in the neurology department, just as the invitation card had stated.
Given how significant the event was, there would certainly be a lot of famous personalities in attendance.
She would probably run into Yu Jing, too, butCheng Weiwasnât worried. She knew he was old-fashioned and prideful, much like most of the traditional geezers in the field.
At most, he might just give her a cold greeting.
Cheng Wei saw no need for concern.
She initially hadnât planned to go to the conference; she had other business to attend to that day. But then she saw the venue on the invitation card.
City A!
Her lips curled into a devious smile. She stared at the words for several moments, her thoughts swirling inside her head.
And then she suddenly burst out laughing. The sound was unnaturally loud in the otherwise quiet room.
Cheng Weiâs eyes flashed with cunning.
She took out her phone and did some online searches. After finding the contact number she needed, she made the call.
An automated response greeted her: âGreetings, client. How may the Shadow Leaguebe of service to you?â
Cheng Wei stared at her newly-manicured nails.
âI want information on a personânegative information, if you know what I mean. I also want a list of all the dubious acquaintances she has made. This shouldnât be difficult for you, right?â
âNo problem,â the person from the Shadow Leagueanswered without a secondâs hesitation. âWe just need the name of the target, along with some necessary data.â
Cheng Wei ignored him and asked, âHow soon can you get the information I want?â
The medical conference was going to be held next Wednesday; she didnât have much time. She had a lot riding on the skills and efficiency of the Shadow League.
âThree days at most,â came the reply.
The man sounded straightforward and self-assured.
Cheng Wei nodded, satisfied. She glanced at the invitation card again and smirked.
Three days should be enough time.
âLetâs see what you do this time around, Yao Tang. Iâm going to destroy your reputation once and for all!â
There was a beat of silence as the Shadow Leaguemember waited for the name of their target.
When Cheng Weistill didnât speak, he cleared his throat and said, âPlease tell me the name of the person you want to have investigated, and theShadow Leaguewill take action right away.â
âOf course.â Cheng Wei reached for a piece of paper. Yao Tangâs basic information was scribbled haphazardly on it, and she proceeded to read them out loud.
âHer name is Yao Tang. Sheâs a third-year atNo. 1 High SchoolinCity A. Sheâs considered the campus belle, but I heard that sheâs constantly involved in scandalous activities.â
Cheng Wei tossed the note aside, only to realize that the man she was supposed to be talking to had already hung up!
Her jaw dropped as she listened to the dial tone for a few seconds.
What the hell was going on?
Cheng Wei frowned at her phone in confusion.
In the next second, however, she received a message from an unknown number.
It read: âDearest Client. The Shadow Leagueâs system is currently down and is undergoing repair. We apologize for the inconvenience. Consequently, we will not be accepting any job requests for the foreseeable future. Thank you for understanding.â
Cheng Wei huffed in frustration. In the end, she had no choice but to dial a different number.
â¦
Yun Tian leaned back against his seat and let out a long sigh of relief. He patted his chest in an effort to calm himself down.
Someone had actually tried to use the Shadow Leagueto investigate their own boss!
He could have signed his own death warrant there and then.
No one in the Shadow Leaguewould turn on their own, unless that idiot no longer wanted to exist in this world.
Yun Tian quickly sent a message toYao Tang, who was in class: âBoss, someone wanted to hire the organization to dig some dirt on you, but donât worry! I already rejected their request.â
Yao Tang couldnât even be bothered to prop her head up from her desk. She held her phone under the table and typed a few words.
âWhy didnât you take it? Earning money is more important than anything.â
Yun Tian grinned at her reply. It was so typical of her boss. Perhaps he should have just sent the client some false information and taken her money anyway.
Sure, it was a violation of the Shadow Leagueâs rules, but as the boss said, money was more important than anything.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
