896 Tables Have Turned

The attendant’s face was tense as he received the other guests. Out of the corner of his eye, he watched Qin Man’s closing figure.

However, when he saw that she had taken an interest in his list, he didn’t say anything else. His shoulders slowly sagged in relief.

At least his work was going smoothly.

It wasn’t easy to find a job these days, so the salary that the Yao Family had provided was enough to keep him going. If he was fired, he wouldn’t know how to pay his rent for the next month.

He focused on what he was doing.

“Hello, I am here on behalf of my general to present a gift to Madame Yao. Many things had transpired, and as such, he had not been able to attend. Please forgive him.”

Suddenly, a man in a military uniform walked toward the entrance. His face was impassive and his arms were stiff to his sides.

He appeared quite intimidating.

General?

The Yao Family didn’t know anyone from the military, so his assumed identity was suspicious.

“What general?” Qin Man furrowed her eyebrows. “The Yao Family has nothing to do with the military. Perhaps, you’ve stumbled on the wrong event?”

Despite this, the man didn’t move from his position.

“My general didn’t have the time to come over today, so I would like to present this gift on behalf of the general.”

Qin Man glanced at the box in the man’s hand. It appeared quite delicate in his large hands. The carving patterns appeared to be quite intricate.

This must’ve costed a lot of money.

Her eyes glistened.

However, before she could move any closer, the man quickly placed the box behind his back. He wasn’t planning on giving it away.

It was as if he regarded her as a thief!

“I wanted to personally deliver this gift to Madame. This is something that the general has specially instructed me. Please do not make this any more difficult.”

The man was emotionless.

Seeing him like this, Qin Man scowled. Could it be that she, the first wife, had no qualifications for receiving this gift?

How ridiculous!

“She is the Yao Family’s first wife,” one of the attendants said. “If you give it to her, she’d be able to give it to Madame Yao on your behalf.”

The military man sized her up.

Even then, he still felt quite strange in his heart. This lady seemed to be different from the other woman he had seen before. She didn’t appear to be this cold and unapproachable.

However, it wasn’t as if he could refuse.

The man slowly nodded as he handed it to her.

After Qin Man took it, a small smile appeared on her face. The box was heavy, so something good must be hidden inside.

It must’ve costed a fortune!

“What’s the name of your General?”

Qin Man raised her head and looked at the man.

She was curious as to who had given the gift.

The man still remained as cold as ever. “When you send it in, all you have to do is that it’s from the General. Madame Yao will naturally know who this is from.”

He still wouldn’t tell her!

Qin Man didn’t bother to talk to him anymore. Fine! So be it!

Who was it from?

Her lips pursed in curiosity. She wanted to enter the hall and ask the old lady to open the gift.

If the gift was valuable, the Yao family would be able to earn a lot of money.

Qin Man had already placed the gift on her tab. Just the thought of her buying the latest bag with this gift, her footsteps became even faster.

As soon as she walked through the entrance, she found a lot of people surrounding the other Yao Family.

All of them had smiles on their faces, just as how they had surrounded them before.

These people only acted like this now because they think that Yao Rong’s family had a promising future.

However, when she took a closer look, she saw that Yao Yuan was among the group. He was smiling as he tried to communicate with his brother.
