Chapter 4

4 | good news, bad news

here we are, again | billie eilish

it's a couple weeks later and time is winding down, meaning it's almost time to leave for billie's tour.

billie's out right now picking up her family from the airport. they flew in to help gather things and make sure we're both ready to leave in a few weeks. i think she's gonna drop them off at their hotel before she comes back here.

margie's currently here at the house with me on a business call in my office. meanwhile, i'm outside on the back patio doing work stuff on my laptop as well.

-

"we literally leave in a month," i told my dad on the phone as i was still sitting on my back patio, still doing work on my laptop.

"yes i will send pictures," i chuckled to him. "you know that."

"no i haven't started packing yet," i told him. "i have time for that dad cmon," i said as i continued to respond to emails for sponsorships.

"yeah," i said. "yeah.. yup."

then a notification popped up on my laptop screen, catching me off guard. it was an email. i clicked on it and read it and my eyes got wide.

"yeah um dad let me call you back," i said slowly as i hung up the phone.

-

margie's pov -

"margie!" i heard leilani scream. "margieeeee!!" she yelled.

i quickly ran out of the office with worry all over my face. "what?! what?!"

lani was standing there with her laptop in her hands.

"i got in," she said lowly as she approached me.

"huh?" i furrowed my eyebrows, not believing her.

"i got in."

"you got in?"

"i got in!" she exclaimed, setting her laptop down on the counter. "i'm gonna be a victoria secret angel!"

lani and i both hugged, squealed, and jumped around in excitement.

"see i told you!" i smiled. "yes! yes! yes! this is so exciting! it's what you've always wanted!"

"i know!" she smiled, trying to catch her breath from jumping around. "i'm so happy."

"me too! so when do we have to leave for new york?" i rose my eyebrows, excited.

"oh right let me see," she went and scrolled through the email to read it fully.

then her smile dropped.

"the end of august," she said lowly, realizing.

"but," i started. "you and billie are supposed to leave at the end of july."

"no," lani shook her head. "no no this can't be happening. no!"

"fuck!" i exclaimed. "well maybe you can join billie for a couple shows and-"

"no margie that's pointless and you know it," she said. "i would need that month to be preparing for modeling and all of that."

"ughhhhhh we should've known that they'd want you guys there soon," i face palmed. "the industry is so unpredictable and last minute."

"marg what am i gonna do?"

then, of course, billie comes through the door. "hi baby," she smiled. "hi margie."

oh my god.

"hey b," i grinned.

but lani didn't say anything.

please just tell her lani, don't make it a secret.

"what's wrong?" billie squinted, seeing the look on our faces. "everything okay?"

"um baby," lani said, taking a deep breath.

"yeah?" bil furrowed her eyebrows, setting her keys down and walking up to lani.

"you know how i've always wanted to be a victoria secret angel?"

"yeah," she nodded.

"well a couple months ago i applied," lani started. "and today i got the email that i got in," she cracked a smile.

"oh my god what!" billie smiled big. "baby that's great! that's been your dream for forever!" she grabbed her hands. "why didn't you tell me you applied?"

"i was worried that i wouldn't get chosen," lani shook her head. "so i told liz. and also margie of course cause she's my manager so she has to know."

"you would've told me anyway," i mumbled.

"sorry i didn't tell you," lani continued to say to billie. "i just didn't wanna be embarrassed to my wife so i guess it was easier to tell my friends just cause i had to get it off my chest."

"lani you know there would have been zero embarrassment with me," b said. "whether you got in or not."

"you're right," she said. "sorry."

"oh girl i'm not worried about that," bil chuckled. "you got in, that's what matters! congratulations baby!" she smiled.

but lani still had a look on her face.

"why the sad face?" billie furrowed her eyebrows. "what am i missing?"

lani just looked in billie's eyes, i guess begging that she'd catch on so she wouldn't have to say it.

and i think it worked because billie's smile sorta dropped.. and she folded her lips in.. and let go of lani's hands.

"when are you supposed to leave?" she asked lani, her tone getting deeper.

"the end of august."

she rose her eyebrows. "oh my god," she scoffed.

"yeah baby im sorry."

"no im sorry," billie said. "i hate that you have to miss out on that," she said as she walked over to the fridge and opened it.

"huh?" leilani furrowed her eyebrows.

"well that's literally right after tour starts," bil started as she got a water bottle and walked back over. "you and i will be gone by then."

lani just stood there, a little confused.

"um b, i wa- was gonna take the offer," she said lowly.

i then closed my eyes, seeing where this is going.

"but you," billie started, tilting her head. "you're supposed to go on tour with me. we've been talking about this for over a year now."

"i know baby but this is my dream," lani expressed. "you know that."

"yeah but lani, you and i have made plans," she argued. "plans that took time to figure out. money to do. like we've already told the press you're coming-"

"but billie-"

"leilani," she said with her voice raised, ever so offended.

"what?" lani said, now raising her voice as she was irritated.

"why would you even apply to that shit knowing you had made other commitments?"

"because i didn't even know i'd get in!" she explained. "but i didn't wanna not apply and regret it. you know the auditions for that shit is every 100 fucking years," she exaggerated.

"so that's it?" billie rose her eyebrows at her. "you're really gonna ditch me to go be a fucking angel?"

"billie ugh!" lani exclaimed. "you know, not everything is about you!"

billie then rose her eyebrows at her like what she just said was a mistake.

a big one.

bil just started nodding. "you're right," she said. "you're so right. nothing is ever about me."

"okay what is that supposed to mean?" lani squinted.

"in this relationship," she said. "it's always been about you. always."

"i'm confused," lei shrugged. "shit is not always about me."

"isn't it though?" b furrowed her eyebrows, tilting her head. "cause it's never been about me."

"how billie?" lei furrowed her eyebrows, getting frustrated fr.

"you should know how," she said, rather calmly. "hell even before we started dating, it was all about you. i've always done shit for you."

"but billie how?!" lani said with an attitude.

"okay fine let's see," she started. "when i first met you, i literally tried saving you from your rapist boyfriend-"

"billie," i said sternly.

cause wtf.

"but of course you didn't listen," she continued to lani, ignoring me.

"then you came to los angeles, rejected me, yet still wrecked my relationship at the time because you realized you were wrong about your own damn feelings towards me," she continued.

"what else?" she went on. "oh right you got knocked up by my first love and who was there for you through the entire pregnancy? me, even though it was hard for me too!"

"when kaia died, who held you for weeks straight until you decided to move back to hawaii? me! when i was struggling too!"

"when you got sick, i came to as many chemo appointments as i could with you!"

"when you were diagnosed as terminal, i postponed my whole damn tour to come to fucking hawaii and be with you!"

"when we were riding bikes in the woods and you fainted, i carried you a mile back to the roads in my arms just so the ambulance could fucking find us," billie now raised her voice, damn near yelling.

"lani you were in a coma for a week!" she teared up. "and i sat by your side the whole damn time!"

leilani then began tearing up too. "billie-"

"they had to force me to eat leilani!" billie yelled, tears streaming down her face. "i went days without food and water cause i was so worried about you!"

"billie," lani started. "okay-"

"i didn't wash my own ass for a week because i thought you were gonna fucking die!"

"and when you were released from the hospital," billie continued. "i put my entire career on hold to cater to you and all your needs because i wanted to make sure you were okay!"

"i did everything for you!"

"during your recovery over this past year, when you didn't have the strength to get out of bed, i brought you any and everything."

"i bathed you."

"shaved you."

"wiped your ass."

"you fucking name it."

"you could barely fucking walk leilani!" b shouted. "and i helped you regain that ability!"

"billie that's enough!" i yelled.

i have never seen billie this way before. this angry or furious. it's like she completely blanked out and just let it all out.

and at this point, the room was silent. lani and i were shocked with wide eyes. her and billie both had tears streaming down their faces.

billie stood there breathing heavily from yelling. but then she suddenly got in a calm state and put this sorta sarcastic/ fake grin on her face.

"so," she breathed. "please excuse me for wanting something to actually be about me for once," she said as she walked past lani and toward the back patio door.

lani just stood there though, still facing the other way, shook as ever with her mouth slightly open.

"but nevertheless, congrats on your new gig. i'm so proud of you," billie grinned once more before walking out the back door.

at this point, my mouth was wide open. because what the fuck just happened???

poor lani looked as if she had blanked out too. she was just frozen.

and i tried to check on her. "lani are y-"

but she quickly just grabbed her keys and walked out the front door, slamming it behind her.

"lani!" i yelled, but she was gone. "ugh fuck!"

i was now standing in the kitchen alone, wondering what the fuck to do.

i heard lei's car start and pull off from the driveway, letting me know that she had left fr.

leilani's house is basically on a private beach front. so when billie walked out the back door, i knew exactly where she was going.

i walked out onto the patio and down the stairs to get to the beach. of course, i see billie sitting right in front of the water, holding her knees in her arms as her hair blew in the wind.

i walked up to where she was and sat next to her in the sand.

billie kept her head straight forward though, staring at the body of water in front of her. didn't even look my direction, but she knew it was me.

we sat there for a minute in silence before anything was said.

"she left didn't she?" b asked me, still not looking at me.

"yup," i told her.

"you think i said too much, don't you?" she said to me.

i sighed. "well i definitely think she could've went without hearing about her rapist boyfriend but that's just me."

billie scoffed and looked down. "yeah i know, but do you at least get where i was coming from?"

"billie i get where both of you were coming from," i shrugged.

"sure," she rolled her eyes.

"i'm serious," i expressed. "you feel like because you've done all these things for her, it's unfair that she can't do you this solid. but she feels like you should understand that this is her dream, no matter the plans you guys had. i get it, it's just really conflicting."

"i just don't know what to even think or do right now," billie laid back, taking a deep breath.

"i have an idea of what you could do," i said, not even looking at her.

"apologize to her?" she rose her eyebrows, already knowing.

i nodded my head. "but i don't know when she'll come back."

"it's fine," billie stood up and dusted herself off. "i know leilani. i know exactly where she is."

"hey billie?" i said.

she looked at me and rose her eyebrows.

"are you okay?" i gave her the most concerned look ever. "i'm so sorry."

"i will be," she cracked a grinned before walking away.
