Chapter 7 - Wrong timing

The Devil Wears Armani

Xander's P.O.V.

"Where have you been the last few days? I missed you, Xander," my mother spoke.

"Umm.... I was working." My mother's timing was really "perfect".

"Were you sleeping?" she asked.

There was a moment of silence before I said, "No, I wasn't."

My mother came inside. I closed the door and went to the living room after her.

"Is anything wrong, son?"

"No, everything is fine, mom." My mother saw Arianna's bag on the couch. "I think I came at the wrong time."

"No, you did not. It is my assistant's bag. We will be going to a meeting."

Sophia's P.O.V.

Xander went downstairs. I sat up on the bed. "What are you doing, Sophia? You have known him for a few days, but you're waiting for him, half-naked on his bed."

I was glad that the doorbell hummed. We were moving too fast. I regretted what happened earlier. I stood up and put my dress on quickly. I ran my fingers through my messy hair to smooth it down in the mirror. I wore my shoes and went downstairs.

"Xander," I called his name.

I saw a middle-aged woman sitting on the couch. When I called Xander both of them looked at me. She was surprised to see me. Xander moved his eyes from me to the woman. Xander gathered himself and spoke, "Umm, mom, let me introduce you to Arianna, she is my assistant. Arianna, my mother-Elena."

She could not be his mother. No. I was completely disgraced. What will his mother think of me?  I thought, "She did not want to marry my son. She had accepted to meet him uneasily, but after a few days, she came down from his bedroom and my son was half naked. Moreover, his hair is messy." She smiled at me as I thought what she would think of me now. It was obvious that she understood.

"Arianna? Hello, my daughter. I'm glad to meet you," she said all of a sudden.

"Nice to meet you too, Mrs. Knight."

"Call me Elena."

"Ok, Elena. Umm, I will be waiting in the car," I said to Xander without looking at his face.

"....Ok."

I took my bag and went to the door. Xander came behind me. He grabbed my arm and stopped me in front of the door. I couldn't look at him. He lifted my face up, putting his finger under my chin and our eyes met.

"Arianna, what happened? Are you okay? Your face is sulky," he asked me in suspense.

I pulled my arm back and said, "We'll talk later." I left the house without waiting for his answer.

Xander's P.O.V.

Arianna's face was sulky. She was surprised to meet my mother, but it was not the reason. After Arianna had left, I returned to the living room.

"She is a beautiful girl."

"Mom, she is just my assistant."

"Xander?"

"There is nothing between us."

"Okay my son, I'm going. See you later."

"Ok, mom. See you later." She opened the door and turned towards me, "Don't forget to adjust your hair. Your hair is messy," she smiled. My mother left and closed the door behind her.

When I looked at myself in the mirror my hair was messy. Of course, nobody would believe that there was nothing between us when she saw me like this. I went to the bedroom and put on my clothes. Then I went out of the house and got in the car. Arianna was not looking at me. I turned my face towards her and asked, "What is wrong with you, Arianna?"

"We'll talk later, Xander."

"No, we will talk now."

"Xander, please."

She was not looking at me. I turned her face towards me, putting my finger under her chin, "Tell me what happened, Arianna. Is all of this because my mother saw us?"

"No, can we go? We will be late for the meeting."

"But before the meeting, we planned to have breakfast."

"No, I'm not hungry."

I breathed deeply, "Ok, Arianna."

Sophia's P.O.V.

He was driving fast and upset. We finally arrived at the meeting. He stopped the car and I got out without waiting for him.

We went to the company after the meeting. We didn't talk in the car. He was angry. As soon as I came to the holding, I went to my room. I hadn't left my office for a few hours. There was no news from him, so I decided to work. A few minutes later, I heard a knock on the door. It was Xander. He closed the door behind him.

Elena's P.O.V.

"Hi, John. I have good news for you."

"What happened, Elena?"

"Xander and Sophia are together."

"How? Martin told me that she had left the holding and didn't want to marry him. They fought or something like that-typical Xander."

"Maybe that happened before, but now, it's not like that. I went to Xander's house. Xander opened the door half naked and his hair was messy. Then guess who came down from his bedroom? Sophia!"

"What?"

"Yes, I was surprised too. I thought she was one of his girls, but when he introduced her, I knew it was Sophia. He denied it, but I'm sure something happened between them."

"Well, let's help them a little bit then."

"What are you planning?"

"I will send them on a vacation. They will think it's business-related."

Sophia's P.O.V.

He came towards me and sat down on the corner of the desk, "Will you tell me?"

"I have not anything to tell."

"Do not make me mad, Arianna." He stood up. He was so angry. "Do you think I haven't noticed that something happened? Everything was so beautiful between us in the morning. It was even magnificent. Everything had changed after I went to the door. What happened? Tell me, please," his face softened as he asked me nervously.

I stood up and admitted, "What happened this morning...was wrong. We are moving too fast. I have known you for a few days. If we think about it, I don't even really know you."

"It's this?"

"Is that not that enough for you? Of course, it is familiar for you to be with someone you don't know."

I could see his anger and frustration from his eyes. He approached me, "Do you think I only want to fuck you? You really think so...lowly about me?" I didn't respond back and he burst, "TELL ME!"

He punched the desk. I jumped up. I had never seen him like this, even when Lily came.

"Xander?"

"What?! What Xander?!" He grabbed my arm, and spoke inches away from my face, "Why should we wait if we have an attraction to each other? What is the difference if we have known each other for four days or four years? What difference does it make, if our hearts want each other? Tell me!"

"It makes a difference. This is the right one."

He moved away, "Fuck with it. What do you want? If you do not want to sleep with me then I will not touch you. I won't even kiss you, but please don't run away from me."

"..."

"It's not just this, am I right? You're making excuses."

"I do not know, Xander. I need time."

He laughed with a mocking smile, "Alright, all the time is yours, but I will not wait for you. Do not fool me."

Suddenly, we heard a knock on the door.

"COME IN!" he shouted. The door opened.

"Are you okay?" It was his father. Xander took a deep breath.

"I'm fine," he said while looking at me. His father was suspicious about whether there was something wrong with us or not. "Do you want to tell me something, dad?"

"Yes. Do you remember David?" his father asked.

"Yes. He has a hotel far away from the city," was all that Xander responded about the man.

"Yeah. We will become associates with him for a new project. I want you to discuss with him the details of the project. You and Arianna are going to his hotel tomorrow evening," his father continued.

"We are going?" Xander questioned.

"Yes. You are going with Arianna. You will need her help there."

"No, I don't need her. I will go alone."

"Xander, I said you are going with Arianna. David will host you at his hotel in the weekend. So, get ready for it too, Arianna."

"Ok," Xander and I both responded.
