Ning Shan’s blood froze. “How did it become like this?”

“We don’t know the exact situation either. The patient suddenly fainted. Please hurry over!” The person on the other end hung up the phone.

Ning Shan bit hard onto her lower lip while feeling panicked and helpless. Wasn’t the surgery successful? Wasn’t everything getting better? How did he suddenly become critically ill?

She felt that tears were coming, but she forced herself to calm down. She immediately went to look for the butler. “My father is in critical condition. Can you help me arrange a car to send me to the hospital?”

The butler was also very surprised when he heard that. He thought about it and went upstairs. When he came back, he was with Gu Minghuai. Gu Minghuai’s expression was solemn. “Is your father in critical condition?”

Ning Shan nodded and he pulled onto her as they headed out.

“Mr. Gu…”

“I’ll send you. Let’s go together.”

Although Gu Minghuai had been inexplicably cold to her these past few days, his actions at this crucial moment touched Ning Shan.

The chauffeur drove while Gu Minghuai and Ning Shan sat in the back. The two of them were silent the entire way. Ning Shan’s thoughts ran wild and had a headache because of that.

When they reached the hospital, after Ning Shan asked the nurses at the station, she rushed to the emergency room. When she saw the woman waiting in the corridor of the emergency room, she was stunned for a moment. “Mom?”

Ning Shan’s mother did not want to bother herself with her, but when she saw Gu Minghuai behind Ning Shan, she quickly got up and put on an anxious expression. “Shanshan, I just came to see your father. I didn’t expect him to faint while we were talking. I was so worried.”

Ning Shan clenched her fists in anger. “But dad was fine after the surgery. But why did this happen once you…”

“Ning Shan, are you suspecting what mom did to him? He’s my ex-husband after all. I came to see him as an act of kindness. How dare you suspect me?” Ning Shan’s mother suddenly raised her voice.

Just a few days ago, she had threatened Ning Shan to tell Mr. Ning what had happened if Ning Shan didn’t listen. But now that Gu Minghuai was here, she didn’t dare to admit it.

Ning Shan’s intuition told her that there was definitely something wrong. However, her father was currently undergoing emergency treatment, so it wasn’t the time to question her now. She had to wait until her father was safe before making any decisions.

Ning Shan’s mother didn’t care what Ning Shan was thinking. She walked towards Gu Minghuai, who was behind her and took the opportunity to get close to him. “Master Gu, did you come with Shanshan to see her father?”

Gu Minghuai glanced at her indifferently. “Yes.”

Mrs. Ning sighed. “Ning Shan’s father and I divorced more than ten years ago. I didn’t expect that after so long, this man would still be so troublesome. Thank you for coming here. I thank you on behalf of his father.”

“No worries.” Gu Minghuai’s expression was uninterested. He did not want to talk to her at all. If it were not for the fact that she was Ning Shan’s mother, he would not even look at her.

Mrs. Ning felt very awkward when she saw the indifferent look on fourth master Gu’s face. However, for the sake of Ning Yun and the Jiang family, she still forced herself to continue speaking. “Master Gu, ever since Yun ‘er saw you last time, she has been thinking about you the whole time. She keeps mentioning you to me, and all she says is praises about you.”

At this point, Gu Minghuai finally raised his eyelids and glanced at her. His gaze was chilly. Mrs. Ning, however, mistook that he was starting to get interested, and she was encouraged. She smiled and said, “Could I know when it’s convenient for me to bring Yun ‘er to visit you, Mrs. Gu also likes Yun ‘er very much…”

“Mrs. Jiang,” Gu Minghuai interrupted her sternly, “Ning Shan’s father is still not out of danger. Are you sure you want to tell me this now?”

At this moment, a nurse came out of the emergency room and shook her head slightly at Ning Shan. “Your father’s condition is very serious, and his will to survive is also weak. His condition is a little dangerous…”

Ning Shan was greatly shocked and could hardly believe it. “How is that possible?”

Gu Minghuai patted her hand lightly. “Don’t worry, I’ll think of something.” After saying that, he took out his phone and called his assistant.

The assistant immediately replied, “President Gu, I’ll contact the city’s famous cancer specialist to rush to the hospital.”

Half an hour later, the famous cancer specialist entered the operating room.

Ning Shan paced back and forth anxiously, not knowing where to place her hands. She was burning with anxiety.

“Don’t worry, your father will be fine.” Gu Minghuai’s voice was calm and steady, giving her a sense of security.

Ning Shan said weakly, “Mr. Gu, thank you so much this time. If you weren’t here, I really don’t know what I would have done.”

Two and a half hours later, the door of the operating theater opened. The doctors and nurses rushed out and reported the good news, “The patient was successfully saved!”
