Chapter 33 Spite

Ning Yun was annoyed. “Spit it out…”

“Hey, isn’t this the fourth master Gu’s female companion for tonight?” A haughty voice interrupted, and a few young ladies walked up to Ning Shan.

“Hello.” Ning Shan politely squeezed out a smile and greeted them, trying not to embarrass Gu Minghuai. Ning Yun could see that the few of them were not friendly, so she quietly retreated to the side to observe. Sure enough, a young lady with red wavy hair took a glass of red wine from the waiter’s plate and forcefully shoved it into Ning Shan’s hand. “Miss Ning, how could you not drink when attending a banquet? Here’s a toast to you.”

As she said that, she raised her head and drank up her glass.

Ning Shan did not know how to drink, so she looked at the young ladies in front of her in a panic.

The other two companions with the red wavy hair lady were arrogant and disdainful as well. One of them rolled her eyes. “You’re not going to tell us that you don’t know how to drink, are you?”

The other sneered and said, “You really are an embarrassment to fourth master Gu, bringing a female companion to the banquet, but she doesn’t even know how to drink.”

“I thought you were someone extraordinary. I didn’t expect you to be so timid. Don’t you even know basic social etiquette?” Lady with the wavy hair mocked.

Ning Shan was afraid of embarrassing Gu Minghuai, so she raised her glass and drank. Gulp, gulp, gulp. She drank it all in a few mouthfuls. Weirdly the wine was a little astringent, but also a little sweet.

“Nice!” Wavy hair lady then signaled at her companion with her eyes.

A lady with long black hair immediately brought another glass from the waiter. “I’ll toast to you too. I’m sure you won’t reject me, right?”

Ning Shan forced herself to drink three glasses in a row, and her beautiful little face began to blush.

“It’s only a few glasses, and you’re already drunk. You really haven’t been out in society, have you?” the long black hair lady sneered.

Wavy hair lady asked with ill intentions, “What’s your relationship with fourth master Gu?”

Ning Shan was in a daze. After a few glasses of wine, her timidness was gone, and spoke up, “I think I’m his fiancée.”

After saying that, she giggled foolishly.

“Nonsense,” wavy hair lady angrily retorted, “How could fourth master Gu marry a country bumpkin like you? You’re so shameless for suggesting that!”

Her quick retort was rebutted quickly. A cold voice sounded behind them. “She is my fiancée. What’s the problem?”

The few ladies paled and forced a smile. “Fourth master…”

Gu Minghuai pushed himself towards Ning Shan, who was giggling at him foolishly. Under everyone’s watchful eyes, he pulled her to his side and made that declaration, shocking everyone on the spot.

The few ladies who were making things difficult for Ning Shan, including Ning Yun who was hiding at the side, all had sour expressions on their faces.

Gu Minghuai looked at Ning Shan’s blushing face with a very gloomy expression. “How much did you drink?”

Following that, his sharp gaze swept across the few ladies. Wavy hair lady was so frightened that she trembled. “Fourth master Gu, we saw that Miss Ning was alone. We were afraid that she would be lonely, so we especially came to toast to her.”

“Yes, Miss Ning didn’t drink much. It was just a few glasses,” the long black hair lady and another companion hurriedly explained.

Gu Minghuai didn’t bother himself with them anymore and left holding Ning Shan’s arms.

“The star of the birthday party is here.” Someone called out.

A white-haired old man who still looked vigorous and energetic walked out slowly while being supported. The banquet hall slowly quieted down. Everyone congratulated the old man one after another. For a moment, the atmosphere in the banquet hall became livelier.

Mr. He nodded his head with a smile while thanking the guests. When he saw Gu Minghuai and Ning Shan, his eyes lit up and he walked slowly toward them. “President Gu, it’s rare for you to come over.”

Gu Minghuai smiled faintly. “After all, it’s your birthday party. Of course, I have to come.”

Mr. He looked at Ning Shan beside him and laughed. “President Gu, who is this person beside you?”

“She is my fiancée,” Gu Minghuai answered and announced it in front of everyone again.
