Chapter 116
Grey: Fifty Shades of Grey as Told by Christian (Fifty Shades 4)
And I would never be unwittingly obtuse, Mr. Grey.
Surely youâve worked that out by now. ;)
She loses appetite around me? Thatâs not good. And sheâs making fun of me. Again.

I shall remember that, Miss Steele, and no doubt use the knowledge to my advantage.
Iâm sorry to hear that I put you off your food. I thought I had a more concupiscent effect on you. That has been my experience, and most pleasurable it has been, too.
I very much look forward to the next time.

Have you been playing with the thesaurus again?
I hoot with laughter.

You know me so well, Miss Steele.
I am having dinner with an old friend now so I will be driving.
Laters, baby©.

As much as Iâd like to keep up the banter with Ana, I donât want to be late for dinner. If I were, Elena would be displeased. I power down my computer, collect my wallet and phone, and take the elevator to the garage.
THE MILE HIGH CLUB is on the penthouse floor of Columbia Tower. The sun is sinking toward the peaks of Olympic National Park, coloring the sky with an impressive fusion of oranges, pinks, and opals. Itâs stunning. Ana would love this view. I should bring her here.
Elena is seated at a corner table. She gives me a small wave and a big smile. The maître dâ escorts me to her table, and she rises, presenting her cheek to me.
âHello, Christian,â she purrs.
âGood evening, Elena. Youâre looking great, as usual.â I kiss her cheek. She tosses her sleek platinum hair to one side, which she does when sheâs feeling playful.
âSit,â she says. âWhat would you like to drink?â Her fingers and her trademark scarlet fingernails are wrapped around a champagne flute.
âI see youâve started on the Cristal.â
âWell, I think weâve got something to celebrate, donât you?â
âWe do?â
âChristian. This girl. Spill the beans.â
âIâll have a glass of the Mendocino sauvignon blanc,â I tell the hovering waiter. He nods and hurries off.
âSo, not a cause for celebration?â Elena takes a sip of her champagne, eyebrows raised.
âI donât know why youâre making such a big deal of this.â
âIâm not making a big deal. Iâm curious. How old is she? What does she do?â
âSheâs just graduated.â
âOh. A little young for you?â
I arch a brow. âReally? Youâre going to go there?â
Elena laughs.
âHow is Isaac?â I ask with a smirk.
She laughs again. âBehaving.â Her eyes sparkle with mischief.
âHow boring for you.â My voice is dry.
She smiles, resigned. âHeâs a good pet. Shall we order?â
HALFWAY THROUGH THE CRAB chowder I put Elena out of her misery.
âHer name is Anastasia, she studied literature at WSU, and I met her when she came to interview me for the student newspaper. I gave the commencement address this year.â
âIs she in the lifestyle?â
âNot yet. But Iâm hopeful.â
âWow.â
âYeah. Sheâs escaped to Georgia to think it through.â
âThatâs a long way to go.â
âI know.â I look down at my chowder, wondering how Ana is and what sheâs doing; sleeping, I hopeâ¦alone. When I raise my head Elena is studying me. Intently.
âI havenât seen you like this,â she says.
âWhat do you mean?â
âYouâre distracted. Thatâs not like you.â
âIs it that obvious?â
She nods, her eyes softening. âObvious to me. I think sheâs turned your world upside down.â
I inhale sharply but hide the fact by raising my glass to my lips.
Perceptive, Mrs. Lincoln.
âYou think?â I murmur after my sip.
âI think,â she says, her eyes searching mine.
âSheâs very disarming.â
âIâm sure thatâs novel. And I bet youâre worrying about what sheâs doing in Georgia, what sheâs thinking. I know how you are.â
âYes. I want her to make the right decision.â
âYou should go and see her.â
âWhat?â
âGet on a plane.â
âReally?â
âIf sheâs undecided. Go use your considerable charm.â
My snort is derisive.
âChristian,â she scolds, âwhen you want something badly enough, you go after it and you always win. You know that. Youâre so negative about yourself. Drives me crazy.â
I sigh. âIâm not sure.â
âThe poor girl is probably bored to tears down there. Go. Youâll get your answer. If itâs no, you can move on, if itâs yes, you can enjoy being yourself with her.â
âSheâs back Friday.â
âSeize the day, my dear.â
âShe did say she missed me.â
âThere you go.â Her eyes flash with certainty.
âIâll think about it. More champagne?â
