Chapter 21
Cold Showers
SEBASTIAN
Sebastian sat down on his bed defeatedly and tossed his phone to the other side. Sheâd hung up on him, but at least sheâd let him say his piece. He couldnât allow himself to hope too much. The best he could do was grovel and hope sheâd listen.
This was one of the moments that Sebastian wished he had some sort of superpowers. He would very much like to know how she was faring and what was going on in her head. Was she thinking of him at all?
Would she ever forgive him enough to let him be a father?
He wasnât sure what heâd do if she relented and let him be part of the babyâs life, but not hers. He didnât think heâd be able to stand coming around her to see his kid and not being able to be with her. And if she started dating someone elseâNo. He wasnât going to think about that.
Sebastian had always gotten whatever he wanted out of life. He knew how to work hard to achieve his goals. And now, his goal was Jayda and their child. A family.

JAYDA
Jayda was all dressed up in her business suit and matching pair of heels. She already had her makeup done and her hair in a low ponytail. She reached for her handbag, and then left her room.
âI wish, I hope, and I pray that the rest of your mornings will be like this.â Lilian walked in from the entrance with a huge bouquet of red roses that had a white rose in the middle and a small gift bag.
Jayda groaned. Without even asking, she knew they were from Sebastian.
âI told him not to send me anything else,â Jayda complained.
âYou donât know my cousin. Heâs relentless when he wants something.â Lilian smiled as she handed the roses to Jayda.
âWhat am I supposed to do with this now?â she asked, her eyes not leaving the flowers.
âMaybe I shouldââ she started, but Lilian interrupted her.
âNo! Youâre not returning anything.â Lilian said firmly, leaving no room for argument.
Jayda sighed. She placed the roses on the table to accept the gift bag Lilian was handing over to her.
âI think Sebastian is now doing his research well. Heâs getting to know what you like best.â Lilian beamed as soon as Jayda brought out a box of her favorite chocolates from the gift bag.
Jayda exhaled as she reached for the other item in the bag. It was a black velvet jewelry box.
âIf this is expensive, Iâll send it back,â she said to Lilian, who glared.
Jayda opened the rectangular box to discover a diamond drop chain. The drop chain came with a matching bracelet with the words ~I love Mommy~ engraved on it.
âAww, for the first time ever, Iâm proud of Sebastian. This is so sweet.â Lilian giggled, admiring the chains.
âThis isnât fair. Heâs manipulating me, and I donât like it,â Jayda stated, knowing with the way things were going, she might have to forgive him sooner.
âHe isnât manipulating you. Heâs come to his senses and is trying to win you over. You refused to talk to him, so heâs trying to make it up to you with these amazing and expensive gifts.
âDonât be worried about the price of everything. Iâm sure itâs nothing to him.â
When Jayda thought that was all, she finally found a handwritten note in the gift bag.
â~I hope you find a place in your heart to forgive me. Please accept these little tokens. They were bought with love, and I hope you like them. Iâll always be thinking about you and our baby. Take care, Sebastian~.â Jayda read the words out loud. He had really sexy handwriting.
âSomeone, please get me a tissue. I never pictured Sebastian to be this romantic,â Lilian said as she playfully wiped invisible tears away from her eyes.
Jayda sighed. âHow the hell does he expect me to stay mad at him for long?â she mumbled. âHe called me this morning to apologize!â
âHe did?â Lilian asked with a raised brow.
Jayda nodded.
âSo? What was your reply to his apology?â Lilian asked curiously.
âI didnât know what to say to him after he apologized, so I ended the call.â
âIâm happy heâs making so much effort to win you over. It shows how he feels about you.â Lilian smiled. âYou can forgive him sooner than you anticipated. Life is too short to take things for granted,â she encouraged.
Jayda arched a brow at her best friend.
Lilian shrugged, then decided to change the subject. âI made breakfast. Letâs go and eat before it gets cold.â
Jayda put back the items Sebastian sent for her in the gift bag, arranged the roses in her flower vase, and then joined Lilian at the dining table.

SEBASTIAN
Sebastian found himself extremely happy as he returned to his apartment.
He was anxious throughout the day. His heart skipped a beat whenever his secretary or anybody from his office knocked on his door. He was afraid one of them would appear with the gifts he sent to Jayda this morning.
Fortunately, she didnât return them, and neither did she send him a notice about those papers she sent to him.
He had also asked his security if anybody came to deliver anything, and thankfully, nobody did.
Sebastian was relieved and hoped that things would eventually get settled between himself and Jayda.
Sebastian went straight to his room to take a shower and change into sweatpants. Without a shirt on, he went to the bar in his living room to get a bottle of wine. He took it back to his room, settled on his bed, and started doing some work.
Halfway through, he reached for his phone on the nightstand and decided to send Jayda a text.
Sebastian
I hope you had a stress-free day. Just checking up on you to make sure you and our baby are okay. You two mean the world to me. Feel free to get in touch with me if you need anything. I hope you forgive me soon! Sleep tightâ¦Sebastian.
As soon as Sebastian sent the text, a call came in from his mom. He smiled as he answered.
âHi, Mom.â
âI wonât ask you how youâre doing, because you sound very happy.â
âYeah, kind of.â He replied, playfully scratching the back of his head.
âSo, I guess youâve settled with Jayda?â Vanessa asked.
Sebastian could picture a smile on his motherâs face as she spoke.
âNot officially. Iâm still trying my best to make it up to her.â
âIâm glad you are. I called because your dad wants to speak to you.â
âDad? But Mom, you promised!â Sebastian face-palmed.
Vanessa chuckled. âIâm sorry. I tried to keep it a secret, but I couldnât contain myself, so I had to tell your father.â
Sebastian exhaled. He was sure he was going to receive a whole lecture from his dad.
âSo, how long were you planning on keeping this a secret from me?â Albert demanded.
âGood evening, Dad. I wanted to settle things with Jayda before I told you.â Sebastian justified his actions knowing his dad was still going to be upset.
âYour mom told me everything, and Iâm really disappointed in the way you treated her.â
Sebastian massaged his forehead with his free hand. He was disappointed in himself too, and that was why he was doing all he could to make up for everything.
âBut Iâm glad she taught you a lesson and made you see that she was different from the person you thought she was.
âYou feel something for her, right? You want to be with her not only because sheâs carrying your child,â Albert asked.
âYes, Dad. I like her very much,â Sebastian admitted.
âThen keep fighting for her no matter what. I wish you all the best, son, and thank you for making me a grandfather.â
Sebastian smiled. âThanks, Dad.â
âMake sure you come over to the mansion during the weekend. I have some work-related matters I want to discuss with you,â Albert added before he passed the phone to Vanessa.
âIâm kind of hoping you and Jayda will have reconciled by next month so you can bring her along to my birthday dinner,â Vanessa said excitedly.
Sebastian groaned. âMom, your birthday is still a month and a few days away.â
âI know, Iâm just saying.â Vanessa chuckled.
âHopefully, Jayda and I will be on good terms by then, and weâll fulfill your wish by attending your party.â
Sebastian and his mother talked some more before he ended the call.
He felt a little disappointed when he saw no new message on his phone. He was kind of hoping Jayda would have replied to his text by the time he finished talking to his parents. He was going to give her all the time she needed, but he was never going to give up on her.

JAYDA
Jayda had been putting her hair in a messy bun when her phone beeped, indicating that she had a message.
Her stomach had done a little flip when she saw it was from Sebastian. Jayda could not help the smile that overtook her face when she read his text. He was successfully breaking down the walls she had put up to guard herself against him.
Still, she wasnât quite ready to answer him. The expensive gifts were nice, and his apologies were showing her what kind of man he could beâone she could trust. But she wasnât sure he deserved to be let off the hook just yet. She didnât want to risk her heart so soon.
Jayda was a lawyer, and she knew all too well how to analyze a situation. She might be overthinking this one, but she had to worry about her heart getting broken and also her babyâs. She had to be sure Sebastian was worthy of being a father to her child.
Jayda went to her bathroom to apply some skincare products on her face. When she was done, she admired herself in the mirror, looking for any changes. Nothing much except for the fact that her boobs were a little bigger.
She smiled as she caressed her still-flat belly. Sheâd been scared at first, but now she was loving the idea of being a mom. âDaddy said we mean the world to him. You want us to give him a chance?â
