Chapter 23
Cold Showers
SEBASTIAN
As soon as Jayda ended the call, Sebastian did a happy dance for three minutes. He wanted to go to the rooftop of his office building and shout out loud that he was going to his babyâs appointment tomorrow.
Before he left the office, Sebastian contacted his secretary to reschedule all his morning meetings. Jayda and his child mattered the most in his life, and every other thing could come later.
Sebastian couldnât stop grinning from ear to ear as he drove to his apartment. He took a shower, had dinner, and then FaceTimed Caleb.
âGuess what?â Sebastian said when his best friendâs face came into view.
âYou bought a new car,â Caleb replied dryly. Sebastian changed cars whenever he wanted.
âUnfortunately, no.â
âThen what is it?â Caleb asked carefully.
âJayda called me this evening.â
âAre you for real?â
Sebastian grinned so wide all his teeth showed.
âWow. Thatâs amazing!â
âI know, I canât stop smiling.â
âSo, what did she say?â Caleb asked.
âShe thanked me for all the gifts I sent to her. I apologized for everything again, and she invited me to her doctorâs appointment tomorrow.â
âThatâs amazing. Iâm so happy for you, Seb. You lost her once, and I really hope you learned your lesson. Now that she has given you another chance, please donât screw it up. A woman like Jayda is hard to find.â
âI promise I wonât screw up. So, which outfit should I wear tomorrow?â Sebastian asked as he moved his camera to four different pairs of suits he had set aside in his closet.
Caleb chuckled in disbelief. âYouâre going for an appointment, man, not a damn business party.â
Sebastian moved the camera back to his smiling face. âI know, but I want to look good for Jayda and my baby. If I wasnât going to work tomorrow, I would have gone for a casual outfit.â
âI seeâ¦someone is over-excited about tomorrow.â Caleb smiled.
âIâve got the chance to prove to her that I mean everything I told her,â Sebastian vowed. âIâm not going to let anything mess that up.â

SEBASTIAN
Sebastian had hardly been able to sleep. He kept on replaying his conversation with Jayda in his head. Today was going to be the start of a new beginning for both of them. He promised himself to be very careful not to screw anything up.
He was up by 6:33 a.m. to do his morning rituals. He made himself a cup of coffee and sipped while doing some work on his laptop.
Once it was almost 8:30, he got ready for the day and left for the hospital.
As soon as Sebastian got out of his car, he saw Jayda pulling up in the space next to his. They must have like minds, arriving at the same time.
As nervous as he felt, he went over to the driverâs seat to welcome her. He had to wait for a few minutes because she was on a phone call.
JAYDA
Once Jayda was done talking, she reached for the handbag on the front passengerâs seat and helped herself out of the car, only to come face-to-face with Sebastian. He had both hands in his pockets. She had no idea heâd been waiting for her.
SEBASTIAN
Sebastian was impressed by the woman before him. She looked even more beautiful than the last time heâd seen her. She was glowing as a result of the pregnancy. In her business suit attire, with a pair of matching heels and bag, and her hair in a low ponytail, she was just perfect!
âGood morning.â He smiled at her. He noticed she wore the necklace heâd bought for her, and that made him very happy.
âHi,â she replied with a small smile.
âYou look amazing!â
She blushed at his compliment. âThanks.â
âThank you for extending this invitation to me. I wouldnât trade being here with you for anything in the world,â he said sincerely.
Jayda smiled. âWeâre honored to have you here with us. Dr. Davis must be waiting for us. Letâs go.â
Sebastian and Jayda walked together into the hospital. When they got to the reception desk, they were directed to the ultrasound room where Dr. Davis was waiting for them.
DR. DAVIS
âGood morning,â Dr. Davis greeted them as soon as they walked into the room. She hugged Jayda and shook hands with Sebastian.
She was happy to see Jayda looking radiant compared to how sad sheâd been at her last appointment. It didnât take her long to figure out Sebastian was the father of Jaydaâs baby. She was happy he was here with Jayda.
Sebastian sat on a chair beside the ultrasound bed while Jayda sat on it. Dr. Davis began to ask her questions about her health.
âHow have you been, dear?â
âGood, I guess.â
âMorning sickness?â
âItâs not always the most fun part of my day but Iâve been able to cope with it. The vitamins you prescribed help me reduce the nausea, but I feel dizzy sometimes.â
Dr. Davis nodded. She scribbled something down on her chart.
âAny cravings?â
âSpicy food and sometimes ice cream. But this man over here has been feeding me with lots of chocolate.â She pointed at Sebastian, who suddenly became shy. They all chuckled.
âAny weird changes in your body?â Dr. Davis asked.
âFor now, no.â
Dr. Davis took Jaydaâs blood pressure. Thankfully, it was normal which showed she hadnât been stressing herself. She led her to the scale to be weighed, after which it was time for the ultrasound.
Jayda removed her blazer and passed it to Sebastian, who was more than happy to hold it for her. She settled on the bed. Dr. Davis raised her camisole a little, right below her breasts.
SEBASTIAN
As far as Sebastian could remember, Jayda had a very flat stomach and she still did. The thought of her sexy belly growing their child made him want to tear up.
After contemplating for a while, he risked a bold step and took Jaydaâs hand. Jayda smiled at him before turning her attention back to Dr. Davis, whose attention was on the monitor.
Sebastian and Jayda listened attentively as she explained everything to them, and they were happy to see their little peanut.
âItâs so tiny.â Sebastian sounded awed and couldnât stop grinning. His eyes never left the monitor.
âYes, but the perfect size for almost two months along,â Dr. Davis said.
âIn a few seconds, you will hear the heartbeat,â she announced before punching a few things on the monitor. Soon enough, they were blessed to hear the most beautiful sound in the world.
JAYDA
âOh my God!â Jayda whispered as happy tears rolled down her cheeks. Sebastian wiped them off. With tears in his eyes too, he kissed her palm. He was blessed to be able to witness this moment with her.
Jayda was grateful to be able to experience all of this. She knew this baby was going to change her life for the better. Everything seemed real now that they heard the heartbeat. Though she was new to the whole experience, she promised to be the best mom she could to her baby. Hopefully, she and her baby would have the same bond she and her mom shared.
Dr. Davis gave the parents some time to enjoy hearing their babyâs heartbeat while she went ahead to print out some ultrasound pictures.
She came back to the room and handed the pictures in a brown envelope to Sebastian.
Jayda almost died of embarrassment when Sebastian helped her wipe off the cold gel and then placed a long kiss on her lower belly, not minding the fact that Dr. Davis was there. He rolled down her camisole, and she sat up on the bed.
âEverything is going well. Your baby is growing perfectly,â she said to them.
The parents-to-be nodded with smiles on their faces.
âKeep eating healthy, avoid stress, and always stay hydrated.â
Dr. Davis turned to Sebastian and said, âIâm counting on you to take very good care of them. Again, donât feed her with only chocolates, let there be varieties. You can mix the chocolates with healthy food and drinks, and maybe a little bit of healthy sex to help your baby grow healthier.â
Sebastian chuckled. âNoted, Doc.â
SEBASTIAN
Jaydaâs face was almost as red as a tomato. But Sebastian gave her hand a light squeeze, indirectly telling her that there was no need to be shy about what the doctor said.
âIâll see you both in one month for your next appointment.â She handed Jayda a new prescription and a meal plan.
âThanks, doc,â they both said.
Jayda stood. Sebastian helped her put on her blazer. She put the prescription, brown envelope, and meal plan in her handbag, then gave Dr. Davis a goodbye hug.
Sebastian and Jayda headed to the pharmacy section of the hospital to buy Jaydaâs vitamins. Before she could reach for her purse to pay for the items, Sebastian beat her to it by handing over one of his credit cards to the cashier.
âThanks,â Jayda mumbled shyly.
He smiled at her. âDonât mention it.â
Sebastian collected the medicines and his card, and they left the hospital.
âPlease have breakfast with me,â he pleaded. He had no idea what her reply was going to be, but he knew there was nothing bad in trying. He wasnât ready to let her go yet.
JAYDA
Jayda wanted to refuse because she had work waiting for her in the office, but she couldnât bring herself to decline his offer after looking into his pleading eyes.
âOkay,â she agreed.
SEBASTIAN
Seb let out a sigh of relief. At last, it seemed as though things were going all right between them! Now he had to keep working hard to hold her trust.
