Chapter 37

Cold Showers

SEBASTIAN

As soon as Sebastian stepped into Jayda’s apartment with the tubs of ice cream she’d asked him to buy, he was greeted with the aroma of his favorite food. For a while, he thought he had entered the wrong apartment. Then it hit him—Jayda was cooking when she was meant to be on bed rest.

Sebastian groaned, making his way to the kitchen where he met Jayda, effortlessly doing her magic.

Jayda’s smile got wider as soon as she saw Sebastian. She wiped her hands with a napkin, approached him, and wrapped her arms around his neck before standing on her toes and giving him a kiss on his lips.

“You were meant to be in bed,” Sebastian accused.

“I took a long nap, I watched a movie, and then I was getting hungry so I decided to make dinner for us.”

“You should have waited for me to come back to make dinner,” Sebastian said.

“You’ve been taking care of me since forever. I just thought I should return the favor.” She smiled.

Sebastian nodded. He knew she was always going to be independent like that. “In that case, I can’t wait to taste the food. It smells so delicious.” He kissed her lips.

“Feeling better?” he asked even when he could see it on her face.

“Yes, love, thanks to you.”

“How did your meeting go, and how is Caleb?” she asked.

Sebastian tried not to look tense as he responded to her question. “It was fine, and Caleb is fine too. He sent his regards.”

Jayda nodded, putting the ice cream in the fridge.

“Why don’t you go take a shower while I serve dinner. It’s almost ready,” Jayda proposed.

“Are you sure? Don’t you need any help in setting the table?”

“I’ll handle it, Seb. Be here in five minutes, or else I’ll start eating without you,” she threatened and went back to her cooking.

Sebastian took a quick shower, changed, and then made his way to the dining room.

The table was already set, so he took a seat beside Jayda. They both held hands, Jayda said a short prayer, and then they dug in.

“I just realized my birthday is coming up,” Jayda said before reaching for her glass of orange juice.

“Yes, Lilian told me,” Sebastian said.

“You two are beginning to get pretty close. Is there anything else that the both of you have talked about that I don’t know?” She asked with an eyebrow raised.

Jayda chuckled. “I was just joking, there’s nothing to be tense about. I trust the two of you. Besides, I like that you two are getting along.”

Sebastian internally sighed in relief.

“So, when did she tell you?” Jayda asked.

“The day she came to warn me not to hurt you. She said you never go out to celebrate your birthday and that I should make this one memorable for you. So how do you want to celebrate your birthday, Miss Wright?”

“I’m a pregnant woman, so I can’t go to the club to have fun. I’ll just celebrate it like the previous years. Go to work, come back early, settle on my sofa with food and drinks by my side, and watch TV until midnight.” Jayda laughed.

“There will be a slight change this time because my birthday falls on Saturday, so I’ll spend the day being lazy.”

Sebastian shook his head in disbelief at Jayda’s reply. That was definitely not what was going to happen this time around. He was going to celebrate her birthday for her in a grand style.

Since Jayda was the one who’d cooked, Sebastian insisted on clearing the table and doing the dishes while she took a shower.

When he was done with the cleaning, he went to Jayda’s bedroom and noticed she was still in the shower.

He reached for his phone. His heart jumped when he saw an email notification. The test results had been sent to him.

While holding his phone with shaky hands, he opened the mail and went through it.

~Positive~

Aaron was his son.

Sebastian exhaled and slowly took a seat on Jayda’s bed. The test results have proven his instinct right, and it was time to think about what came next.

“What are you looking at?” Jayda had walked out of the bathroom wearing one of Sebastian’s shirts.

He quickly masked his worried face with a cool one. Things might not be the same for them when she learned about Aaron, and he wanted to cherish every last moment before she found out the truth.

“Nothing.” He quickly put his phone away.

“My shirt looks better on you than it would ever look on me,” Sebastian admired.

Jayda blushed. “Stop being such a tease.”

Sebastian approached her and wrapped his arms around her waist. “I’m serious.”

“I guess it’s normal for your things to fit me because I’m your other half.”

“Are you indirectly proposing to me?” Sebastian teased.

“Oh, please!” Jayda rolled her eyes as she freed herself from Sebastian.

“I’ll take that as a yes!” he smiled.

“Whatever makes you sleep beside me at night.” Jayda winked before going over to the mirror to admire her belly.

“I think I’m going to need to shop for maternity clothes sooner than I had thought.” Jayda smiled at her growing belly.

“I agree,” Sebastian said before gently turning Jayda around so she could face him. “You both mean the world to me. I promise to love and cherish you guys forever. I’ll never do anything to hurt you,” he said sincerely, sealing his promise with a long passionate kiss.

JAYDA

^A FEW DAYS LATER^

Jayda never paid any attention to news, gossip, and chats about celebrities; she just wasn’t interested in stuff like that. Still, she wouldn’t be surprised if they started spreading rumors about her and Sebastian because of how clingy they’d been in the past few days.

Every time they went out, paparazzi snapped pictures of them. She didn’t like it, but she knew she’d have to get used to it.

Just like every other weekday, Jayda was working on a case with her interns in one of the conference rooms. She sat at the head of the round table, going through some files while the four interns sat at the far end of the table, brainstorming about what Jayda told them to research.

Absentmindedly, Jayda heard someone mention Sebastian Miller. It was from the TV. She ignored it and continued her work. They were probably talking about his company or ranking him as one of the richest eligible men in the country.

What Jayda heard next made her world crumble. With a heavy heart, she turned her attention to the TV and listened to every detail of what the celebrity gossip host was saying.

“Sebastian Miller has a son! Can you all believe that? Both of them were sighted yesterday in one of the most expensive malls in the city. A woman also accompanied them.”

The host also said the woman was the mother of the little boy.

Then, a picture was displayed, a picture of Sebastian and his alleged son, who looked so much like him. They looked so happy.

Jayda’s eyes got heavy with tears. She felt an indescribable pain in her chest. She felt betrayed. She wanted to scream out loud and ask the universe what she had done wrong to go through so much pain. She thought she had found her happily ever after, but she was so damn wrong.

OLIVIA

Before Olivia could approach Jayda, she stormed out of the conference room. Sebastian’s sister had no doubt that she was going to confront Sebastian.

She reached for her phone with her shaky hands and called her older brother, who picked up after a few minutes.

“Seb! Jayda knows everything. She knows about Aaron. It was just on the news.”

Sebastian cursed softly. “Where is she now?”

“She just stormed out of the conference room! I don’t know if she’s heading over to your place to ask you about it.

“Please, Sebastian, try to explain to her. Plead with her and make her see the reasons why you hid the truth from her. I can’t bear to see the two of you apart and in pain. Please fight for her.”

SEBASTIAN

Sebastian closed his eyes against the pain in his heart. “I don’t know, Liv. I don’t think she will want anything to do with me anymore, but I’ll see what I can do,” he replied with a heavy heart. “Thanks for the info, we will talk later.” He ended the call.

Sebastian buried his face in his hands and dreaded what the next few hours of his life were going to be.

Yesterday had been Aaron’s birthday. Sebastian had spent the whole day with him. He took Aaron to the mall to get new stuff for him, and they’d gone back to Katie’s place to celebrate the little boy’s birthday with a few of his friends.

Sebastian was brought out of his thoughts when someone stormed into his office. His heart beat faster when he saw who it was.

“Jayda!”
