Chapter 44

Cold Showers

SEBASTIAN

Sebastian had never been so nervous to meet anyone in his life. He’d asked Lilian for Jayda’s mom’s number a few days ago. The same day, he called Grace and told her he would like to see her and Jayda’s father, David. He had something important to discuss with them.

He rubbed his palms together, let out a sigh, and pressed the doorbell.

Immediately, a woman opened the door. From the resemblance, Sebastian could tell she was Jayda’s mom.

“Good day, Mrs. Wright,” Sebastian greeted nervously.

GRACE

Grace smiled. She was happy to finally meet the love of her daughter’s life. “You can call me Grace, and it’s nice to meet you, Sebastian.” She ignored his handshake and pulled him into a hug instead. That seemed to calm Sebastian down a little.

“Come in.” She ushered him into her home, closing the door behind him.

Grace led Sebastian to the second living room downstairs where David was comfortably seated, going through a newspaper.

“Honey, Sebastian is here.” She sat beside her husband.

“Good afternoon, Mr. Wright.”

David put aside his newspaper and removed his eyeglasses. “It’s nice to finally meet the man who has made my daughter cry and fall in love at the same time,” David said and rose to shake Sebastian’s hand.

Grace chuckled at her husband’s light humor, and Sebastian blushed.

SEBASTIAN

Sebastian let out some air before he began to speak. “Mr. and Mrs. Wright, I’m here because I want to ask for your daughter’s hand in marriage. Words cannot describe how much I love and adore Jayda. I cannot imagine not spending the rest of my life without her by my side.”

Bravely, he continued. He wanted them to know for sure how much he meant every word.

“I promise to love her, cherish her, and be there for her and my unborn child. You two mean a lot to Jayda, and your approval means a lot to me. Do I have your blessings to go ahead with the proposal?”

GRACE

Grace looked at her husband with a smile. She’d had an idea this was what Sebastian wanted to talk about when he called her a few nights ago.

DAVID

David also knew his daughter was deeply in love with Sebastian. If his daughter wanted to spend the rest of her life with him, who was he to say no?

“Jayda is my princess and the apple of my eye. I hope you take care of her and cherish her as you’ve promised. If you ever hurt her in any way, you will have me to deal with,” David threatened.

“I promise not to hurt her, sir,” Sebastian assured him.

David took a look at Grace who nodded eagerly. “Okay then, you have our blessings,” David announced.

SEBASTIAN

Relief washed over Sebastian.

“So, when do you plan to propose to her? Can we come to witness it? Sorry, I mean, are we invited?” Grace asked with obvious excitement.

“Grace…” David groaned.

Sebastian smiled. He had everything planned out already, and he wanted their loved ones to share their beautiful moment with them.

“I plan to propose on her birthday Saturday night. I’m also throwing a small party for her, and of course, you’re both invited.”

GRACE

“Perfect.” Grace smiled. She was happy Sebastian had opened her daughter’s eyes and made her believe in love.

She was formerly afraid that Jayda would get married to her job and end up alone. Thankfully, Sebastian walked into her life and changed that perspective.

“Well, congratulations in advance. My daughter loves you, and I have no doubt she will say yes. Welcome to the family, son.” David rose to his feet and hugged Sebastian.

Grace followed suit.

Sebastian beamed with joy. He’d won over her parents. Now he only had to make sure Jayda agreed to become his wife.

JAYDA

“Jayda, let go of me, I’m almost out of breath.” Lilian chuckled as Jayda refused to release her.

“Let me hug you for thirty more seconds to show you how sorry I am,” Jayda mumbled.

“Jayda, let go. I’ve forgiven you already.”

This was the first time Jayda and Lilian had seen each other since their small fight. Though Jayda had apologized to Lilian over the phone, they were both so busy they hadn’t been able to meet in person.

“I’m sorry I acted crazy the last time,” Jayda said as they both sat on the couch, facing each other.

“It’s all in the past now. What matters is that you and my cousin are together again and happy.” Lilian smiled.

Her eyes went to Jayda’s belly and her smile got wider. She caressed Jayda’s bump. “My godbaby is growing so fast.”

“I know.” Jayda smiled. “Aaron wants it to be a girl.”

“Wow, team baby girl. I promise to buy Aaron a new toy when I pass by a toy shop.” Lilian smiled.

“You guys should not get your hopes up. It might be a boy you know,” Jayda warned.

“I don’t think so!” Lilian smiled. “I have a feeling it will be a little girl.”

“How is Roman? I hope you guys have started creating ~my~ godbaby,” Jayda asked.

Lilian blushed.

“Roman sends his greetings. We’ll let you know when we are pregnant. Anyway, how are you celebrating your birthday?” Lilian asked.

“People in my firm tend to surprise me with cakes and small parties, and it can get so overwhelming. I’m happy my birthday falls on a Saturday this time around.” Jayda shook her head.

“I’ll probably stay at home and pamper myself. I will also remember to fill the fridge with ice cream on Friday, so you’re invited to my ice cream party.”

“How did I end up with such a boring friend?” Lilian face-palmed.

Jayda chuckled. “You love me, that’s all that matters.”

“So, will you go out with me on Friday? Please? What’s your schedule like this Friday?” Lilian asked hopefully.

“I have to be in the courthouse in the morning, and I think I have meetings with three clients or so. Where do you want me to go?”

“We’re going to pamper ourselves. We can get a spa treatment, a makeover, and get our nails done. From there, we’ll go to the mall for a little shopping.”

Jayda stared at Lilian strangely as she spoke. “Is there anything I should know?” she asked suspiciously.

Lilian pouted. “Don’t be a mood spoiler, Jay! I was just asking for some girl time.”

“Okay, I’ll try to adjust my schedule,” Jayda promised. “But there better not be anything unexpected.”
