Chapter 53
Cold Showers
SEBASTIAN
It had been a few hours since Sebastian had been forced to leave Jaydaâs side. The nurse allowed him to hold Ariella and feed her while he waited for news about his wife.
Sebastian burped Ariella and held her close before she fell asleep. And when she did, he carefully placed her in her bassinet.
While she was sleeping, Sebastian reached for his phone and found multiple text messages and missed calls. He hadnât yet told anyone what happened. He didnât want to scare anyone, and he wasnât sure yet what to say. Finally, he texted his family and her family to let them know what was going on and to put them in their prayers.
Sebastian replied to all the texts of their worried family members by informing them that heâd let them all know what he found out from the doctors and when they could stop by the hospital.
He put his phone aside and went to check on his daughter, who was still fast asleep. He placed a soft kiss on her tiny forehead and took a seat on the chair beside her bassinet and decided to take a short nap. It was just a little past 4 a.m. Hopefully, heâd be able to get some rest.
In an hour and thirty minutes' time, the sound of soft cries woke Sebastian up. They were from Ariella. He went over to her bassinet and gently picked her up.
âGood morning again, princess. I hope you had a good nap,â Sebastian said to his daughter, who looked at him curiously.
He went over to the changing table to change her diaper, just like the nurse had shown him earlier.
âSir?â The nurse spoke from behind him. âIâm very happy to tell you that your wife is doing just fine. The doctors were able to stabilize her blood pressure, and sheâs resting comfortably. You can see her now.â
Sebastian sent up a thousand prayers of gratitude and stopped himself from dropping to his knees only because he was holding his daughter. The nurse helped him bundle her up, and he went to Jaydaâs room.
JAYDA
Jayda slowly opened her eyes when she heard soft cries. She knew they were from Ariella.
A smile made its way to her lips when she saw Sebastian holding her. She didnât know what had happened. For all she knew, sheâd been taking a nap.
Watching Sebastian attend to their princess was one of the sweetest things she had ever watched him do. He rocked the baby and sat by the bed to stare at Jayda in wonder.
âWhatâs wrong?â she asked at the sight of his tears.
âI almost lost you!â
âDonât you know, my darling, you could never lose me?â She had no idea why he was so upset.
When Sebastian told her what happened, Jayda couldnât believe it. But soon the three of them were cuddling on her bed. Sebastian was extra careful with his wife. He knew how close heâd come to losing her forever.
Jayda smiled. She couldnât wait for Aaron to meet his younger sister. She was sure he would throw a tantrum when he woke up and found out that sheâd been born and he wasnât there.
âReady to feed her?â Sebastian asked, and she nodded.
Sebastian handed Ella to her mom and helped Jayda undo the button of her hospital gown.
Jayda guided her nipple to Ariellaâs mouth. The little girl latched on immediately.
Seb sat beside Jayda and watched her feed their princess with adoration gleaming from his eyes.
âYouâre both so beautiful,â Sebastian gave a grateful smile.
Jayda nodded. âI think I love being a mommy already.â
âYou were amazing in the labor room, youâre stronger than I imagined you to be. Thanks for going through all that pain to bring our baby girl to life.â
Jayda looked into Sebastianâs eyes. She was still not sure of all that had happened while she was unconscious, but she knew it had been bad. âIt was worth it. Iâd go through anything for our princess. Thank you for being by my side.â
Sebastian kissed her hand.
âI canât wait for Aaron to meet Ella. She will be his favorite, and we will be his second-favorites, I guess.â
They both laughed.
âMy parents will pick him up on their way here,â Sebastian said.
Soon enough, they were disturbed by Dr. Davis who walked in with a female nurse behind her.
âHow are my favorite patients doing?â
Jayda was done feeding Ella, so Sebastian collected her to burp her.
âWe are fine, doc!â Jayda replied with a smile.
âMorning doc,â Sebastian replied, gently patting Ariellaâs back.
Dr. Davis first approached Seb to take a glance at the beautiful baby.
âSheâs so beautiful,â she gushed.
âYes, just like her mom,â Sebastian said proudly.
âCongratulations!â She gave Sebastian a side hug before hugging Jayda. âCongratulations to you too. I hear you gave everyone quite a scare. How are you feeling now?â
âA little sore down there, but Iâm fine,â Jayda smiled.
âI went over your and Ariellaâs report, and Iâm happy you both are okay. One of the midwives also told me you did a good job in the labor room. She said you were amazing!â
Jayda blushed. âI had no doubt I did an amazing job. Thanks to his support.â She pointed at Seb, who was engrossed with Ariella.
SEBASTIAN
Dr. Davis and the nurse did a quick check-up on Jayda and Ariella, and everything seemed to be going well. Sebastian was relieved. He never wanted to be so afraid again.
The doctor left them alone to rest. It would be a few days before Jayda could be released from the hospital. She needed time to recover.
âI really want to get back to our home,â Jayda complained.
âYouâll stay here as long as necessary,â Sebastian scolded.
JAYDA
Jayda gave him a happy sigh. She knew he would take care of her and their baby, and she felt completely safe with him. She would try to enjoy her time here with a nurse to help.
Once they got home, she knew everything would be different. She would have to learn how to take care of an infant. It was very different than being a lawyer. For now, she snuggled with her baby and husband.
Everything in their lives had changed, and once they went home, would change even more.
