Chapter 248
Jojo and Coco’s Unexpected Love
Chapter 248 Why Would You Steal My Dogs?
Chloe planted a kiss on Josephâs cheek and changed into her pajamas. âIâm going to take the dogs for
a walk. You can head to bed first,â she said.
During her period, Joseph had taken care of walking the dogs. Now that she was feeling better, it was
her turn to take them out.
âItâs raining tonight. Letâs postpone it to tomorrow,â he replied.
Glancing at the time, Chloe noticed it was already one hour to midnight. The dark clouds outside
obscured the moonlight as if the night itself held lurking dangers, creating an ominous atmosphere.
Feeling an unexplained sense of unease, she nodded in agreement, âOkay.â
The dogs were in the backyard and had the freedom to use it for their bathroom needs, so there was
no urgency for them.
Before retiring for the night, Chloe received a text from Xavia, informing her that she would come to see
Oreo tomorrow morning.
Outside the courtyard, two professional dog catchers were stationed along the path that Chloe typically
took to walk her dogs. However, even at one oâclock in the morning, they failed to catch sight of Chloe.
The two of them conferred and made the decision to contact their employer for guidance. A calm and
soothing female voice answered the phone, âShe wonât be walking the dogs tonight. Go home, get
some sleep, and come back tomorrow morning. Remember to follow the route I
provided.â
âRoger that, miss.
The night rain brought with it a refreshing and delightful atmosphere the next morning. Chloe, who had
not walked the dogs last night, woke up half an hour earlier to take Oreo and Toto out. Just as she set
foot outside the villa with the two dogs, she received a call from Sophia.
âChloe, I came to work early today, but the security guards at the entrance arenât here yet. Do you
happen to know the password for the ground floor?â Sophia asked.
âItâs six sevens. Why are you at the office so early?â Chloe inquired.
âI completely forgot to prepare the presentation slides for todayâs meeting,â Sophia confessed, âChloe,
Iâm heading up. Can you tell me the password for Marketingâs entrance?â
âItâs the same as the ground floor.â
âOh, I see.â
Sophia then transitioned the conversation to work-related matters and started asking a series of
questions one after another. It seemed like she had no intention of ending the call with Chloe just yet.
As it was work-related and Sophia was still new to the company, Chloe patiently addressed each
question, providing thorough answers.
Chloe was oblivious to the fact that the route she was currently taking was entirely different. from her
usual path. Oreo and Toto, on the other hand, sniffed around in excitement, their tails wagging in
anticipation. Occasionally, they stumbled upon freeze-dried snacks scattered on the ground, seemingly
placed deliberately to guide them in a specific direction.
It was more accurate to say that it was Toto and Oreo pulling Chloe along rather than her walking the
dogs.
After ending the call with Sophia, Chloeâs attention was drawn to her surroundings. She realized she
had inadvertently walked into a secluded area, away from the view of surveillance cameras. The lack of
people in the vicinity raised her suspicions, prompting her to turn around and retreat, tightly gripping
onto Oreoâs and Totoâs leashes.
Suddenly, two men emerged from the bushes, catching Chloe off guard. Without uttering a word, they
forcefully wrestled the leashes from her grasp. Fear gripped Chloe as she helplessly watched Oreo
being taken away by the men. She resisted and tried to snatch Oreo back from
their clutches.
âF*ck off!â one of the men bellowed, forcefully shoving her aside.
As Chloe fell to the ground, her foot twisted, eliciting a sharp intake of breath due to the sudden pain.
Despite the discomfort, she summoned her courage and threatened loudly, âWho are you?! Why would
you steal my dogs?! Iâm telling you, this neighborhood is equipped with surveillance cameras, and you
wonât get away with this!â
The men maintained their silence, capitalizing on Chloeâs fall to seize control of Toto as well. Swiftly,
they secured a muzzle on Totoâs snout and administered an anesthetic to both dogs. Toto let out a
pained howl and made a futile attempt to resist. One of the men delivered a harsh slap to Totoâs head,
causing the struggle to cease. Within moments, Totoâs tongue protruded, unmoving.
Oreo met the same unfortunate fate. Its jet-black eyes brimmed with fear, yet it made no attempt to
resist as if it comprehended that any resistance would only invite even harsher treatment.
