Chapter 384
Jojo and Coco’s Unexpected Love
Chapter 384 A Gang
Harold sneered. âThis reward is undeserved. I donât dare accept your gift.â
âYouâre an elder, so thereâs no such thing. Iâm giving you a gift to show my filial you.â
âWho are you? Did I ask you to do that for me?â
respect for
Holding the gift, Xaviaâs hands stiffened. She did not know if she should retrieve the gift and continued
with this stalemate. She said in an aggrieved manner, âGrandpa, I know you donât like me, but I was
forced to do what I did before. I just wanted to survive.â
âThe bastard isnât here. Stop trying to pretend to be pitiful. Itâs useless!â Harold snorted in annoyance.
He would not accept this.
A tinge of resentment flashed across her eyes. She whispered and inevitably sobbed, âIâm not
pretending to be pitifulâ¦â
She could not change the fact that she came from a village and that she had no background no matter
how good she was at her studies. Hence, she could only work hard to cater to the successful people in
the upper class and eliminate her identity as a poor person who came from a village. She strove so
hard, so she felt that she should be praised instead of being criticized and scoffed at.
Harold shot her a fierce glare. âYouâre the one whoâs behind Chloeâs kidnap, arenât you?â
âSomeone kidnap Ms. Chloe?â Xavia appeared bewildered and asked anxiously, âWhy did that
happen? How is she now? Is she safe?â
Harold narrowed his eyes. âStop pretending. I know that it was you.â
Xavia clenched her fists before she burst into tears. âGrandpa, I know you donât like me but please
donât accuse me blindly. I donât have the guts to do such an illegal thing.â
âDo you want me to show you the evidence?â
Feeling nervous, cold sweat broke out on her forehead. âNo⦠This old bastard couldnât have gotten
evidence. S wouldnât have exposed himself so easily. Harold must be trying to bluff me.â
âI didnât do it, so of course, thereâs no evidence.â
Harold caught the change in her expression and interrogated sternly, âIf you tell me the identity of the
culprit now, Iâll consider letting you off the hook. Who helped you?â
âNo, I did nothing!â Xavia became agitated all of a sudden. She abruptly got to her knees and cried
profusely. She blurted out, âI can understand that you donât want Joe to
marry me, but you canât pin a groundless crime on me!â
She cried loudly, and being in a relatively quiet cafe, she soon attracted the waiter.
âIâm sorry. May I ask if thereâs anything you need help with?â
Patrick stepped forward and said, âItâs fine. Leave.â
âAh⦠My belly is hurting. My babyâ¦â Xavia suddenly held her belly and cried out in pain.
The waiter thought that Harold had done something to the pregnant woman and wanted to call 911.
Harold flared up in a rage. âStop pretending! I didnât touch you!â
âYou shouldnât upset a pregnant lady. It may cause a miscarriage!â the waiter shouted before he tried to
soothe Xavia.
However, Xavia refused to get up. She held her belly and knelt on the floor looking like she was in pain.
âGrandpa, I will have wronged the Whitman family if something happens to this baby. If this baby
comes out safely, please give Joe and me a chance to take care of you together. Is that okay?â
âAre you threatening me?â Harold asked as he stared at her angrily.
âNo, I wouldnât dare. I just hope that you can put aside your prejudice against me⦠I love Joe with all
my heart.â
Patrick could not bear to listen to that anymore. âWeâll take you to the hospital now. Youâre going over
the line if the doctor claims that youâre fine.â
When Joseph arrived at the hospital, the doctor had just produced the result. Xavia was indeed having
miscarriage-like symptoms.
Joseph stared at Harold. âWhy the hell did you meet her?â
âWhy? I think she was the one behind it. She was the one who hired people to kidnap Chloe.â
âDo you have any evidence?â
âNo, but her expression was strange. She must be guilty.â
She must have been scared, so she experienced a miscarriage-like symptom.
Joseph pressed his temples in frustration. âOur society is ruled by law. We have to look at the
evidence.â
If there was evidence, he would not be bothered even if Xavia was sent to the police station.
âWhy are you speaking up for her?â Harold shivered in fury. He was so angry that he felt like he could
pass at any moment.
âOh, shit! The bratâs bewitched by this scheming bitch. How sinful!â
Joseph did not bother to explain. âPatrick, take Grandpa home.â
Harold was infuriated. âFine, I wonât meddle in your business. Youâre the one in charge of this family!â
Patrick shook his head before he hurriedly followed after Harold.
Xavia dozed off in the ward. Joseph did not go in and sat outside smoking. He then took out his phone
and typed a series of strange numbers.
âHowâs the investigation going?â
âItâs a bit complicated. Theyâre recidivists, and theyâre very good at counter-surveillance. Itâs likely not
as simple as personal retaliation.â
âBe more specific.â
âThis looks to be the work of a gang.â
Joseph held his cigarette lightly between his lips, his countenance turned murderous amid the smoke.
He said coldly, âKeep on investigating. Donât alert the enemies.â
Lucas walked over and reminded him softly, âSir, we should go now. You have an appointment with Mr.
Alexander.â
Aaron had run away with the money and someone had died on the construction site. Chloe was not at
fault but after the investigations, the project was found to have cut corners to save
money
and were in multiple construction violations. Hence, the project was forced to suspend its work. It was
an unfinished project rather than a suspension of work.
After paying the workers their wages, Chloe had no more money or energy to dive into this project
again. She wanted to shift her focus to the Johnson Group. She had to go to a golf course to negotiate
a new project with a partner.
