Chapter 517
Jojo and Coco’s Unexpected Love
Chapter 517 Busted
âIâm out handling some matters.â Joseph gripped his phone tightly, his tone growing stern.â Chloeâs at
the hospital?â
âWhat could possibly be more important than my sweet granddaughter-in-law?â Harold questioned.
âSomebody saw my mother at Seawell Plaza.â
Harold fell silent. It took him a moment before he asked, âDid you find her?â
âNo, itâs possible they made a mistake.â
âDo you think that the Sinclairs are merely spouting nonsense to trick you?â
âNo matter what you think, Iâd rather believe that my mother is alive and managed to escape as
opposed to that sheâs long gone.â
Harold let out a long, heavy sigh. âThatâs not what I meant. I just want our family to be safe.â
âThe safety of our family has nothing to do with whether my mother is alive or not. Back then, we just
werenât strong enough.â
âAll right, Iâve lived to this age. What do I have to fear? Iâm only worried about you, cough, coughâ¦â
Harold began to cough uncontrollably before he could finish his sentence. His coughs came in rapid
succession, resembling a heavy burden on his heart, leaving him gasping for breath.
Josephâs face sank and he quickly changed the topic. âHow do you know that Chloe went to the
hospital?â
âDr. Spencer said they ran out of medicine at my regular hospital, so Patrick went to another. hospital to
fetch it, and he happened to see Chloe there.â
âDid Patrick ask her why she was there?â
âNo. She was on the phone, so she probably didnât hear him.â
âOkay. Donât wander around with your old comrades for now. Stay home and rest.â
âYou mind your own business. Go and check on Chloe, see if sheâs feeling unwell.â
âI will.â
On her way home, Chloe received a call from Joseph. She stared at the incoming call on her phone,
her face showing hesitation.
âSir, please pull over to the side,â she instructed.
âOkay, miss.â
She rolled up the car window, shutting out the noise from outside, and lightly tapped the answer button
with her fingertip.
âWhere are you?â Joseph asked.
âIâm with Em. Whatâs wrong? Are you done with your business?â
He stayed silent for a few seconds. âWhy arenât you home? Why are you running around outside?â
âItâs nothing. Emâs just feeling down and wants some company,â Chloe replied calmly, â Sitting at home
is boring, so I thought I might as well come out for some fresh air.â
This time, the pause on the other end was much longer. After a while, Joseph replied calmly and
emotionlessly, âIâm heading home. I want to see you before seven oâclock.â
Chloeâs heart skipped a beat. Just when she was about to test if he knew something, Joseph abruptly
ended the call. Upon arriving home, she found him seated on the couch, still in the same expensive
black shirt and perfectly tailored trousers.
His face was dark and stern.
Walking into the living room, Chloe glanced at him and waved. âHeyâ¦â
Joseph sat with his legs crossed and looked at her sternly. âCome here.â
âOh no. He must have found out something. Guess Iâll have to play by ear.â
Chloe forced a dry smile, slipped on her fluffy slippers, and walked over to him. Feigning innocence,
she asked, âWhatâs wrong? You have such a sour look on your face. Who offended you?â
âYou,â came Josephâs concise and displeased reply.
Chloe maintained her facade of innocence. âI havenât done anythingâ¦â
âGo on. Keep pretending.â
âIf you have something to say, just say it.â
âWhy didnât you tell me you went to the hospital? Why did you lie to me?â Joseph coldly questioned her,
having no intention of beating around the bush.
Chloeâs heart skipped a beat. âHow did you know I was at the hospital?â
Joseph clenched his teeth. âYouâd better give a reasonable explanation.â
