Chapter 704 Painful Misunderstanding

“I want you to promise me something," she said with little confidence. A hint of unease flickered in

her eyes. "I want to stay alive. I don't want to lose value on both ends."

During her coma, Imperium had expended a lot of effort on her, not to mention that they had much

better medical facilities than what can be found outside. Before seeking revenge, she wanted to

cleanse herself and fully recover. And since Joseph was going to learn everything he wanted to

know soon, there was no point for him to keep her here. Even if he let her go, how long could she

survive outside?

"You go first," Joseph said.

Vanya knew she had captured Joseph's attention, but she did not try to push her luck.

"Icarus was working with us. We planned that whole scene in the restroom between him and Chloe.

And your mother did escape from Duskfall. Cyrus intended to use you as bait to lure her out. As for

Noah, he likes Chloe and cooperated with us."

She shared what she knew carefully, trying not to give away too much. After all, Joseph was a

shrewd person. Once he confirmed certain things, he could easily follow the clues and uncover the

truth. She just hoped that she would recover before then.

Joseph already knew about the last two pieces of information, but the first caught him off guard.

Even after all this time, the scene of that day was still vivid in his mind. He remembered how hurt,

lost, and disappointed Chloe looked.

The scene replayed like a movie in his mind, piercing his heart.

"Icarus and you planned it all?"

"Yes, we did.”

"And the child in Chloe's womb was mine?"

Vanya was unsure of Xavia's current situation or if she would be useful in the future, so she gave a

vague answer. "Maybe. You should know that better than anyone else."

After Joseph left Vanya’s room, Jasper skipped and hopped over. From a distance, she could see

the vague outline of the young boy. She was surprised by the striking resemblance he had with his

father.

She waved at him and called out, "Little boy, come over here."

Jasper looked at her and asked, "Why should I listen to you?"

He was certain that Vanya was not a good person since she was locked up.

Vanya was stunned, but she did not give up and asked, "Is Joseph your father?"

"Yeah," Jasper replied, feeling like this was not a secret.

"What about your mother?"

Jasper's face sank as he replied indifferently, "I don't have a mother."

Vanya was taken aback by his response. She wanted to ask more questions, but Jasper had

already run away. Had Xavia failed her mission and been abandoned by Duskfall, or was she

involved in another task?

The sky grew dark and night descended.

As Joseph drove along the highway, the trees on either side flashed by in a blur. He rolled down the

windows to let in the cold air, hoping it would clear his mind. However, instead of calming him, it

filled him with even more thoughts of Chloe. Thinking about how he had misunderstood her all

those years ago, he felt an intense pain that made his fingers tremble.

"Daddy, I'm cold…" Jasper mumbled sleepily from the back seat where he was curled up in a ball.

Joseph looked at his son through the rearview mirror and furrowed his brows. "Sorry, I'll close the

windows now."

"Are you okay, Daddy?"

"I'm fine."

"Okay…"

"Once we're back home, you head off to bed first. I have some things I need to do.”
