Chapter 77
Jojo and Coco’s Unexpected Love
Chapter 77 The Uncertainness in Oneâs Mind
âNothing⦠I just wanted to ask if you have any plans today. I want to treat you to a meal,â Chloe said.
âSorry, I canât today,â replied Joseph.
Chloeâs heart sank a little. Although she already knew the answer, she still asked, âWhy not?â
âI have to accompany Grandpa for his check-up,â he explained.
She was stunned for a moment and asked nervously, âIs everything all right with Grandpa?â
âHe has a heart condition, so he goes for regular check-ups. Nothing to worry about,â he reassured her.
âIâll go see him after Iâm discharged from the hospital. I havenât visited him in two weeks,â she said.
While the engagement party was important, it paled in comparison to the importance of Haroldâs well-
being. Therefore, it was understandable that Joseph chose to
accompany his grandfather for his medical check-up.
Joseph lifted his gaze and smirked. âGrandpa didnât spoil you for nothing.â
âWell, he treats me kindly, so of course, I have to treat him back with the same level of kindness,â
Chloe said as she nodded vigorously.
Harold treated her well, and she also liked him very much. He was approachable and had a good
personality. Most importantly, he did not look down on her for her humble background.
Suddenly, Joseph looked up and surveyed her face.
âSo whatâs the thing that you want to tell me? You can tell me now,â he asked firmly.
Chloe was consumed with guilt for lying to him, and as he interrogated her, her eyes flickered nervously
and she couldnât muster the courage to look directly at him. She waved her hand anxiously.
He frowned. âHurry. Donât waste my time. I donât have that much patience.â
â1â¦â
Joseph cupped her face with both hands, forcing her to look at him. His magnetic voice carried a hint of
command as he said, âSpeak.â
His hands were large. One of them could wrap around Chloeâs entire face, let alone both hands
together, making his grip even tighter.
At this moment, the scent of soap tickled Chloeâs nostrils. She felt the warmth of his palms and her
heart raced into a gallop.
âIf I were to have a conflict with your relatives, would you blame me?â she blurted out.
Joseph furrowed his brows, not expecting her to ask such a strange question. He did not want to
answer, but upon meeting her eager and hopeful gaze, he paused and replied, â Iâll support whatâs
right, not just because theyâre my family.â
He could not say he liked his relatives, nor could he say he disliked them. Therefore, he would not
show favoritism toward anyone.
âReally?!â Chloeâs eyes shimmered with excitement.
If that was the case, she could confidently proceed with her plan!
âYeah.â
âOkay!â
âOkay?â
âOh, nothing. Will you go straight back to the office after accompanying Grandfather for the check-up
this afternoon, or will you go somewhere else?â
âWhat are you up to now?â
âNothing. I was just asking so that I can prepare your dinner in advance.â Chloe blinked innocently.
âAnd go to Jakeâs engagement party and give him a big surprise.â
Joseph glanced at her. He noticed the sly glint in her eyes but did not bother asking further.
âIâll be going back to the office. Grandpa might ask you out for dinner tonight, but Iâll give the excuse of
you being busy with work and refuse. Donât give anything away,â he
said.
âDonât worry.â
After having lunch at the hospital cafeteria, Chloe went through the discharge procedures when she
returned to the ward. While she was preparing to be discharged, Emily came and helped her.
Patrick, who was waiting outside the hospital, reached out to help carry their things. Emily was startled
and dodged to the side, mistaking him for a man trying to pick her
1.
âI have a boyfriend. I donât need a ride,â she said.
Even if he was driving a Rolls-Royce, he was too old for her.
Patrick awkwardly pulled his hand back, âYouâve misunderstoodâ¦â
âOkay, okay. I know that when men get rejected they always say itâs a misunderstanding. I understand.â
Chloe laughed, and her pale face became slightly flushed. âHahaha, what are you thinking? Mr. Patrick
is my husbandâs driver!â
