Chapter 83
Jojo and Coco’s Unexpected Love
Chapter 83 Weâre Married
Chloe was stunned and immediately turned around.
However, she saw no trace of Joseph. Instead, she spotted Icarus. She patted her chest and let out a
long sigh of relief. âYou must be seeing things. You scared me!â
âI wasnât seeing things,â Emily insisted, but in the next second, Icarus vanished before she could point
him out. She began to doubt herself. âCould I really be seeing things?â
âOf course. Youâve been running back and forth between the hospital and the office while also making
time for your boyfriend. Itâs normal to experience some eye impairment,â Chloe said with a smile. âOnce
I finish up what Iâm working on, Iâll treat you well.â
âAre you sure Jakeâs uncle wasnât here today?â Emily asked, her face stern.
After dropping Chloe off at the hotel, Emily went to meet up with her boyfriend. Upon her return, Emily
scanned the table where Jakeâs older relatives were sitting but did not spot Icarus.
âNope. Iâm sure he didnât come today. Today was his grandfatherâs check-up day. Otherwise, do you
think I wouldâve been so blatant?â
âThat makes sense. Given the pace of your relationship, thereâs no way you couldâve
wrapped things up with him so quickly.â
Chloe felt disheartened when Emily brought this up. Joseph was a tough nut to crack,
and she did not know what to do about it.
âItâd be nice if you hadnât married him. The other day, I saw an extremely handsome guy. Heâs several
times better looking than Jakeâs uncle. I guarantee youâll drool when you see him!â Emily exclaimed.
âIs that so? While Jakeâs looks are average, his uncle is a work of art. In fact, in all my years of
existence, Iâve never seen a man as handsome as him.â
Emily rolled her eyes. âOnce you see this guy, you wonât say that anymore.â
Chloe was intrigued by Emilyâs confident tone and was about to inquire further when her phone rang. It
was an unknown number.
âHello, whoâs this?â
âDidnât you call me first?â a lazy drawl came from the other end of the line.
Chloe was momentarily stunned, but she quickly regained her composure. âAre you Mr. Samuel
Winson? The lawyer?
Yesterday, she had dialed the number on the business card Joseph had given her, but no one
answered. She had then gotten busy with other tasks and had not tried the number again.
âWhat can I help you with?â
Chloe proceeded to recount how her motherâs money had been secretly transferred away by the
Johnsons. Samuel remained indifferent and did not ask any questions.
âYou can sue them. Itâll be an easy win,â he declared.
âReally?â Chloe was thrilled. She had expected him to accept the case so readily.
âYeah. Thereâs no lawsuit that I, Samuel Winson, canât win. Your case isnât complicated and will be
easy for me to resolve.â
She clutched her bag tightly and asked eagerly, âGreat. What materials do I need to prepare?â
âMy assistant will contact you about that. The only thing you need to prepare is the lawyerâs fee.â
Chloe nodded understandingly. âMay I ask how much itâll cost for you to take on this case?â
âTypically, a case of this difficulty level is priced at 1,500,000 dollars. However, since Joseph
recommended me to you, Iâll give you a discount of 20% and charge your
1,200,000 dollars. You can transfer the money to my account before the trial.â
Chloe gasped, â1,200,000 dollars?â
âIs there a problem?â Samuel asked, not realizing how outrageous his asking price
sounded.
âCan you lower it?â Chloe bit her lip and added embarrassingly, âI donât have that much money.â
âYou donât even have 1,200,000 dollars?â Samuel was shocked that Joseph would have a friend as
poor as Chloe. He spoke with an air of superiority as if being unable to pay 1,200,000 dollars made one
a pauper.
Chloeâs face turned red. âIâm sorry. 1,200,000 dollars is too much for me. I probably wonât be able to
hire you to handle the case.â
âIf you donât have the money, you can ask Joseph for it. In Aesper, no one other than me can guarantee
100% success in this lawsuit.â
Samuel said one shocking sentence after another, but Chloe rubbed her nose and said, No, I canât do
that. The amount is too large for me.â
âThis amount may be a bit high for you, but itâs just chump change for Joseph.â
âBut weâre not relatedâ¦
âIn that case, thereâs nothing I can do. Goodbye.â
Samuel hung up the phone. He would not do bad business, and offering a 20% discount was already
his limit. He had no idea where Joseph came to know someone as poor as Chloe, let alone a woman.
âHold on⦠A woman?â
Samuel suddenly realized something. All these years, Joseph had been a workaholic. His life revolved
around nothing but work. He never had any lady friends, so where did this one come from?
When this thought came to mind, he regretted not asking more about Chloeâs relationship with Joseph
from her.
It had been a long time since he had gathered with his buddies, so Samuel decided to call Nathan out
for some drinks. Just before hanging up, he quipped, âBy the way, do you know a girl named Chloe?
Seems like she and Joseph have an unusual relationship.â
âYouâre just finding out now?â Nathan replied nonchalantly.
âWhat? Iâm the only one who doesnât know about it?â
âActually, Iâm not sure. Iâm just guessing. How did you find out about Chloe?â
âIâll tell you when we meet up. Letâs also get Joseph to come out. If he refuses again this time, weâll just
go to his office and confront him.â
âYou go ahead. I want to live for a few more years,â Nathan replied, embracing the woman in his arms.
âWell, forget it then,â Samuel said.
Who had the courage to face Josephâs poker face alone? It was scarier than losing a case.
As Joseph was on his way back to his office after accompanying Harold to his check-up, he ran into
Nathan who enthusiastically invited him to have a meal together.
With dinner time approaching, Joseph agreed to the invitation. Seeing the opportunity, Nathan
immediately sent a location to Samuel, urging him to come quickly. At the dinner table, Samuel slyly
inquired about the situation with Chloe, while Nathan chimed in from time to time.
Their incessant questions annoyed Joseph to the point where he furrowed his brow and asked, âWhat
exactly do you want to know?â
Nathan winked and asked, âWhatâs your relationship with Chloe? Have you managed to win her over?â
âWeâre married,â Joseph replied flatly.
