Chapter 14
Not Just A Love Story
Ethan
I spotted Ryan standing and talking to some woman.
"Did you see her again?" I asked him and he looked at me madly.
"How would I know? I'm not your wife's babysitter." he whisper-yelled at me and he sipped his drink.
I glared at him but turned my head when I saw Ryan's bodyguard rushing toward us.
What's his name again?
Bob?
SpongeBob.
Whatever!
"Sir Mrs Kingston is inside," he said and we three rushed inside.
Just as we entered, We heard a glass clinking sound and everybody turned their attention toward it.
We turned to see it was Lauren who gathered the crowd.
God.
No.
"Hello everyone. Wait I've to be professional, ladies and gentlemen. I'm Lauren. Lauren Kingston. Have anyone of you met my husband, Ethan?" she asked the guests and looked around and continued. "He is, as many of you know, the coldest person in this world. Not because he is some ghost or something." She giggled at her own joke but everybody just stared at her.
"Wait let me tell you another joke. Does anyone know why pirates can't finish alphabets?" she looked around and continued.
"Because they are lost in the C. Yeah, I surfed the whole internet for that joke." she laughed and when no one even batted an eye she dropped her laugh looking annoyed with everyone.
"I know that was a very bad joke. But does anyone know how Ethan and I got married? Why did we marry? We married because..."
No no Lauren, don't do it.
I looked around and everyone's attention was on her and everyone was awaiting her answer.
"Because we love each other and he is the sweetest person to me." she said and everyone visibly seemed disappointed that they didn't get any interesting gossip.
Why is everyone so interested in others' life.
She was about to open her mouth again, but I quickly bolted toward her to stop her from speaking any further.
I placed my hand on her waist and pulled her towards me and turned towards everyone.
"That was a very good speech Lauren, but we have to leave." I said and surprisingly she agreed giving me a big smile.
I looked around to see all were staring at us.
I cleared my throat and gripped her hand tight and walked out careful enough to not let her stumble in her steps.

"I'm bored." She said leaning her head on the window.
"What do you want me to do?" I asked her already exhausted from today's events.
She placed her index finger on her chin and looked up making a thinking face.
"How about a game?" she asked excitedly.
I turned towards her and my eyes danced with amusement looking at her excitement.
She looked like a child who just got her favourite candy.
"No." I reckoned but she just ignored me.
"I take it as a yes." She said excited and turned front.
"So, I will ask you questions and you just have to answer them. fine?" she asked.
"No. why can't I ask you any questions." I asked her voicing my thought.
"Because I mentioned the game and It follows only my rules." She declared sternly but in fact, she actually looked funny.
"Well, I don't play then." I shrugged and she glared at me.
"Fine, but you can ask only one question and I'll ask two questions. Alright?" I wanted to deny but I want to see what she'll ask.
Do you like dogs?" she asked and I looked at her confused.
"Why?" I asked her staring ahead, driving.
"You can't question another answer me with a question." She said and I stared at her confused.
What?
Is that even English?
I got Dyslexia disease understanding that.
"Oh wait. Sorry. My words stumbled. It's actually you can't question answer no no you can't my answer question." She scratched her head lightly trying to form a correct sentence.
" 'I can't answer your question with another question'. Is that what you wanted to say?" I asked her and her eyes lit up at my answer.
"Exactly!" she exclaimed with a big smile.
"So answer." She added.
"No. I don't like dogs much." I answered and she looked offended.
"Ok, my turn. Why didn't you reveal our marriage secret before at the party? you had the chance." I asked her the doubt which was bugging me.
She was drunk she could spill the whole tea easily.
But she didn't.
"I don't know. Revealing that in front of everyone didn't feel right, So I twisted my words at the last moment." She leaned back in her seat.
I turned my head and looked at her to see her leaning back t the sat and looking at me.
I stared at her intensely for a moment before looking straight.
***
I parked the car when we reached the penthouse and helped her get down.
She was practically glued to my body.
And I tried so hard not to let any other inappropriate thoughts.
I pressed the elevator button and when we reached the floor we got out and opened the door with my key.
"Wait. There is a step. Watch it." She said and lifted her leg like stepping on something and walked further inside.
I looked down at the flat ground and rolled my eyes at her.
"When she stumbled again I tried touching her to help her but she moved away from me.
"Don't touch me. I know my way." She said proudly.
She turned around and not even a step later she crashed into a wall, banging her forehead.
I stopped the smile that was creeping on my face and walked toward her.
Her head was hung low and I raised her head up with her chin.
Her lips were turned down and she looked like she was about to cry.
I smiled looking at her expression.
"Did it hurt?" I asked and she rubbed her forehead.
"Yes." I smiled at her and slowly rubbed her forehead cooing her like a child.
I grabbed a chair for her and made her sit.
I moved to bring some water but she just got up throwing her arms around me.
My heart skipped a beat when I felt her so close to me.
This is probably the first time we were so close to each other.
She placed her head on my chest and tightened her arms around me.
I cleared my throat before speaking.
"Let me go." I said trying to remove her hands but she simply tightened them.
"No." shaking her head she muttered.
"Let me bring you some water." She simply shook her head.
I thought for a second for a second to convince her.
"I'll bring you ice cream." She lifted her head to look at me and smiled at me.
She looks more beautiful when she smiles.
"Now. Sit here and don't follow me." I Said and walked away to get her some water.
I took three steps towards the kitchen and turned around when I felt her following me.
"didn't I tell you to sit still?" I asked her folding my arms in an intimidating way.
She blinked at me looking at my arms before turning her lips into a straight line.
"Yes. But I want to help you." she blinked again and I raised my eyebrows at her.
She just gave me a nervous smile and stumbled back sitting in that chair.
I walked back giving her the water and she took it.
She quickly took two gulps before stopping.
"Wait. Didn't you say you'll bring me ice cream " she asked but I just ignored her taking back that glass and placing it on a table.
"You lied. How could you." she accused as if that is the biggest issue.
"You are such a liar. My husband is a liar. I can't live anymore. I'm going to die." She said and looked around.
And I waited for her to see what she is going to do next.
She messily got up on the couch and looked down at me.
"I'll jump from here and I'll die." She said looking down from the couch as if she stood on a mountain.
"May my soul rest in peace." She said and I rubbed my forehead.
"Get down this instant, Lauren or else," I ordered her but she just retorted back.
Or what?" she challenged me
"I'll kill you," I said to which she just laughed.
"I'll-" I searched for anything else.
"I'll kiss you," I said and her eyes widened. Her lips turned into a smirk making me even more confused.
"Yes, you can." she pouted her lips moving her head forward towards me.
"What?" I asked with wide eyes.
She just laughed at my reaction and I cleared my throat embarrassed.
"If you don't sit down this instant, I'll call your mom." That did the trick.
Her smile vanished and she just simply sat on the couch.
I smirked at her, sitting beside her and she glared at me.
"You sound like my high school principal threatening me with my mom." She glared at me.
I turned towards her and she yawned leaning toward me.
"I'm sleepy." She said moving towards me, placing her head on my chest.
I contemplated placing my hand around her but eventually, I pulled her closer to me.
I looked down at her face to see her sleeping like a baby still mumbling something to herself.
A soft smile graced my lips when I saw her snuggling closer to me.
I stared at her for a few moments more before lifting her in my arms in bridal style.
I pulled her towards me and walked towards my bedroom.
I opened the door with my legs and placed her on my bed and was getting up when she grabbed my shirt pulling me down.
Our faces are now only an inch apart.
She slightly opened her eyes and softly smiled looking at me.
She touched my forehead with her index finger and traced her finger down my cheek.
I closed my eyes slightly at the feel of her hands.
"Open your eyes," she whispered and I did.
"Did I ever tell you that you have beautiful eyes?" she asked looking at my eyes.
"Your blue eyes resemble the ocean. They are very beautiful outside and are also very deep just like the depth of the ocean. You hide all emotions well behind those eyes letting everyone see only your anger. You have so much love and care but you are afraid to show anyone those emotions. Don't you?" She asked me rubbing her thumb on my cheek.
I gulped listening to her words.
"I hope you let me in, someday." she said giving me a soft smile before closing her eyes and drifting off to sleep.
I took her hand which was still on my cheek and rubbed my thumb on her knuckles staring down at her.
I was surprised that she understood me this well considering the very little time we spent together.
She is seriously good at reading people.
I placed her hand back gently beside her and covered her with the blanket.
I moved out and walked towards my study.
I sat on my seat in front of the desk and smiled at today's events.
I never knew Lauren could be this troublesome when she is drunk.
Today, I saw a little child peeking out through her personality.
I replayed the words she told me in my mind, making me smile.
Her words somewhat showed me that there could be a potential relationship between us.
I smiled to myself at the thought.
My eyes involuntarily land on my desk and I opened the second drawer taking out a small key.
I opened the third drawer with my key and was about to open it full when my phone rang for the nth number of times today.
I answered it after seeing it is Ryan.
How is my fish dancer doing?" I heard his playful voice.
"well, after torturing me for some more time, she just went to sleep." I answered and he chuckled.
"I never would've thought, Lauren could be this funny and annoying at the same time when she is drunk." He said and I couldn't agree with him anymore.
"Who would've thought," I replied to him.
Well one could've known of Lauren's this personality," he said and I furrowed my eyebrows.
"Her friend, Alice." he added and I made an 'oh' expression on my face.
"Yeah, she could." I answered him.
"Well, I just wanted to check up on you. don't work anymore and just have some rest. You had a long day rather should I say had a long night." I gave him a little chuckle.
He chuckled back and soon we ended the call.
I looked down at the slightly opened drawer and locked it back again with the key as I thought otherwise of opening it today.
After locking it away, I made my way back to my room again.
I entered it and saw Lauren sleeping peacefully with a soft smile on her lips.
After changing into nightwear, I walked toward the couch and lay on it.
I turned towards the bed and saw her sleeping form.
I smiled looking at her.
Soon my eyes drifted off to sleep feeling tired.
