Chapter 6

Not Just A Love Story

Lauren

"What the hell Lauren?" I stopped dragging Alice when we are far enough from Ethan and Ryan.

"What? You were flirting with Ryan." I squinted my eyes at her.

She looked confused for a second before raising her hand and showing four fingers.

"Lauren, tell me how many fingers do you see?" now it is my turn to get confused.

"What?" I asked dumbfounded.

I am just making sure you have not gone blind within one day."

I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms in front of me.

"Then what was that before with Ryan?" she shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly.

"It's called admiration." She stressed. "I have always admired him and his movies, I can't help it."

"Moreover, he is not my type Lauren." She finished and sighed.

"Are you sure?" I asked trying to confirm her answer.

She glared at me which immediately shut me up.

"So did anything happen with you and Ethan?" she asked me after a moment.

With my widened eyes, I hit her lightly on her shoulder.

"Eww! No." I made a disgusted expression.

"Or maybe caught any feelings." I looked at her like she had grown horns on her head.

"No.... Wait. Actually yes, Hatred. That feeling increased ten folds."

She sighed at my answer.

"At least you married someone rich you could buy anything you want just by a snap." I narrowed my eyebrows.

"Are you even my friend? What type of friend says that." shaking my head, I glared at her.

"You can buy anything you want, any food. Just like that. No restrictions." She wriggled her eyebrows.

My expression changed into realization from confusion at what she meant.

Usually, my mother doesn't allow me to eat whatever I want saying it's not healthy for me.

It's not like she used to take away my birthday cake even before I eat.

It's just that she doesn't allow me to have the third spoon or third piece.

Now as there is no mother to stop me, there are no restrictions.

Me and my food.

That's it.

I sighed dreamily thinking about all the food I can eat.

"Back to earth L." Alice snapped her fingers bringing me back from my dreamland.

"Why did I never realize that? You are definitely my friend." Grinning, I pulled her in for a hug.

"She hugged me back and after a moment we broke the hug.

Alice was about to say something when a familiar voice cut her off.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?" Ethan's angry voice boomed through the whole mansion.

I turned towards him to see him looking rather glaring at someone.

And here I thought I had already seen his anger.

The anger he showed towards me is nothing compared to his anger right now.

He looked like he could murder someone.

I turned to look at the woman he was yelling.

She was dressed in a nice lavish dress and she looked like she was in her late forties or early fifties. she looked beautiful and classic. She had that powerful aura around her.

"I SAID GET OUT!" she gulped and took a deep breath when he yelled at her again.

Ryan came and stood behind that trying to control him. But Ethan just shrugged away from him and moved towards her.

"Wait. Oh my god." Hearing Alice's voice, I turned towards her.

"What?" I asked unsure of why she reacted that way.

"Girl!! Don't you know her?" when I shook my head, she facepalmed.

"She is his mother, Elena Kingston." I widened my eyes at the answer.

Now when I look at her there are some similar features between them.

They both have the same blue eyes.

"I knew you wouldn't know anything about him. So, I surfed the whole internet to get some information on him. Apparently, his mother and he doesn't have a good relationship." Alice finished making me frown.

She is right, I didn't want to know anything about him. So, I've never googled him or anything.

"Ethan I know I hurt you a lot but-" the woman or his mother started but stopped when Ethan raised his hand stopping her from speaking any further.

"Don't you understand? I don't want to listen anything from you. I hate you so damn much. I can't even bear the sight of you."

At this answer, the woman looked at him with a hurt expression evident on her face.

Ethan just had an unreadable expression on his face. nothing much except the raw anger.

"Ethan- " she started again.

"Get. Out," he said slowly stressing the two words.

Now her eyes were filled with the brim of tears. She looked around the crowd and tried blinking the tears away.

"Elena. I think it's better if you leave right now." I hear grandpa's voice for the first time.

She looked like she was about to say something but stopped when she saw grandpa's expression.

She looked at Ethan for a final time and Ethan just turned away from her.

She looked around the crowd but stopped when her eyes fell on me. She gave me a final look before walking away.

Ethan stormed off from the party hall ignoring Ryan's calls.

"What the hell just happened."

I wish I knew something. But I don't." I answered Alice.

***

I am currently sitting in front of the mirror brushing my hair. The party didn't last long after Ethan left. It is almost midnight and Ethan hasn't returned yet.

It's not like I care for him or anything. I hardly know him at all.

But the curiosity to know what is wrong with him and his mother is eating me up.

I placed the hairbrush down and made my way toward the bed. I tried staying awake to see if he will turn but when tiredness got the best of me, I closed my eyes and slept.

***

I slowly opened my eyes when I felt the sun's rays on me. I looked around and stopped to look at the couch to see if Ethan has returned.

He didn't.

I overcame the urge to sleep for extra five minutes more and got down from the bed. I made my way towards the bathroom to quickly clean up and shower.

I got dressed in blue jeans and a black crop top. After brushing my hair, I made my way downstairs.

"Good morning. Grandpa." He turned towards me and smiled at me warmly.

"Good morning, dear."

I took a seat at the dining table and looked at all the various dishes on the table.

"Did Ethan return last night grandpa?" he chuckled nervously at my question before answering.

"You know Ethan, he must have been busy with all the work and all." I nodded unsure of his answer.

I wanted to ask him about Ethan's mother but quickly changed my mind.

We chatted for a bit about other topics rather than Ethan. When I finished my breakfast, I explored the mansion.

After getting bored I made my way toward our room. To stall some time, I opened my phone and started scrolling through social media.

Some time passed, when the door abruptly opened revealing Ethan. He is still in his last night clothes. His hair was messy, dark circles under his eyes and he looked like crap.

"Wait for me downstairs. We will leave now." He didn't wait for my answer and just left to his closet.

I glared at his egoistic form before walking down.

Can't he at least wait for my answer?

After a few moments passed Ethan came. He was now dressed in a blue suit.

He walked towards the living room where grandpa Is playing some games on his phone.

I chuckled seeing him play Candy Crush.

"Grandpa we are leaving now." Ethan said in his usual cold tone. He stood and gave us both a warm smile.

"Come visit this old man sometimes Lauren." He said towards me and I nodded.

He turned towards Ethan and they had some secret eye conversation. I knew it was about me because Grandpa silently pointed me in the middle.

Ethan rolled his eyes and we finally left the mansion.

I hope his eyes get stuck at the back of his head every time he rolls them.
