Chapter 1
I Don’t Want the Obsession of a Twisted Archduke
My life as an ordinary office worker suddenly changed.
It started about three weeks ago. I was suddenly hit by a truck on the way home from work. And when I opened my eyes, I became a noble.
I realized it when the maids called me âLady Riddelâ.
This was when I realized I was in someone elseâs body right now. However, the problem was that the name âRiddel Spencerâ, no matter how I thought about it, seemed quite familiar to me.
Weirdly enough, nothing came to mind.
I tried to adapt myself to this body and find a way to go back, after all, knowing yourself and your enemy was the best way to go about it.
As time passed, I found my first problem in this life.
It was about the maidsâ attitude. They seemed to have terrible manners towards me, it even made me think that I wasnât a real aristocrat for a moment.
Fortunately, I was a true and bonafide aristocrat. However, this didnât explain why the maidsâ attitude were terrible towards me.
They wouldnât bring the meal on time, which was one of the basic things they had to do. And as Iâve noticed, my meals were slowly getting worse.
I let this matter pass for a while. This was since I didnât really have time to worry about stuff like these, I was too busy adjusting to my new body. I didnât really think that I wouldâve left it like that.
However, sooner or later, they actually brought me rotten food!
âHow do I change this?â
As I thought about this, a maid abruptly opened the door without knocking first.
âMiss, your meal is ready.â
As usual, the maid placed it on my table without a tiny bit of care. The soup even spilled a bit due to the excessive force she applied while putting it down.
The meal that was served on the table was hard bread which wasnât fit for consumption and cold soup. The meal today seemed even worse than yesterdayâs.
âI think itâs spoiled foodâ¦â
The moment I stared at the maidâs face, I noticed something different. It seemed like her appearance was better, maybe it was because she spent my foodâs allowance for it.
âThis maid⦠What was her name again?â A vain smile appeared on my face.
âWendy, I canât eat this. Please send it back.â
The maid, Wendy, looked quite shocked upon hearing what I said, she was speechless for a moment. And then, she brazenly answered back, âMiss, you have to eat your meal.â
This was the exact answer I expected.
âI see.â The smile on my face didnât budge even a tiny bit..
âYes, Miss. Donât complain andâ¦â
âThen, you eat it.â
âExcâ?â
âYou can eat it first.â
Wendy flinched back when the smile disappeared from my face. She looked quite flustered.
âMiss, what do you meanâ¦â
âStop talking! Do you want me to feed you? Iâll repeat my words, you can either eat this⦠or bring the ledger to me.â
I was actually quite curious about how much the maid had taken from my food allowance.
When the maid heard this, color visibly drained from her face.
âA mere maid had the nerve to take away a nobleâs money?â
I ordered her because I didnât think this was something I could just let go, she even answered just like how I predicted her to.
âAll right. I got her now.â I smiled at her.
âChoose.â
âIâm sorry, missâ¦â
âNo, I donât need an apology. Decide between the two choices.â
âMissâ¦â
âYou can either eat this or bring the ledger.â
With that said, Wendy reluctantly picked up the spoon, hesitation filled her face.
âYou mustâve taken a lot of moneyâ
Wendyâs face turned pale as the food entered her mouth. As expected, it really was rotten food. The maid glanced at me, it seemed she was waiting for me to order her to stop eating.
She really did act as I predicted.
âYou need to eat everything if you donât want to bring in the ledger. Do you understand?â
âI.. I was wrong, miss.â
Wendy cried and begged, however, I simply stayed still until she finished eating.
âThis is why you should have done a good job while I was still amicable.â
******
A week passed since the incident.
Only
Ever since that day, a rumor began to circulate around me. This seemed to be the reason why no maids have been rude to me lately.
On the contrary, they even started treating me nicely. They even started to bring me proper meals and clean my room. This was the perfect situation.
I didnât fire the previous maid. For someone like me, who hadnât figured out exactly what this world was, it was more beneficial that there was a reminder for the others to stay in their right places.
As I sat in the rocking chair on a lovely afternoon, the warm sun poured down from the window.
âThe weatherâs nice. I want to go outside.â
âCan you prepare for me to go out?â I asked Wendy who was beside me.
However, after hearing what I said, Wendyâs face darkened. She began to glance and read my face.
âMiss, I donât think you can go out.â
