Chapter Nineteen
Roommates
Chapter Nineteen
Ren
Stupid term papers. With everything happening with Andre, Austin and Amanda I don't always have time to finish any of my term papers. I'm sitting on my bed with my laptop on my lap. I'm typing my way through my paper when I hear the doorknob twisting. I smirk when I don't hear the door opening. Obviously, I locked it.
I hear someone â most likely Austin â banging on the door. It goes on like this for a minute or two until it suddenly stops, then my phone rings. I look at the caller ID before picking up.
"Harper," I answer.
"Open the damn door, Ren." Austin growls.
"No."
He pauses. "What?"
"I said no," I say nonchalantly.
"Are we really doing this?" he asks warningly. I bite my lip.
"Yes," I retort.
"Fine." He hangs up and I feel a lump on my throat. What is he going to do?
Suddenly, I hear a loud slam and the door slowly swings open. I move my laptop on my bed and stand up in front of the door. The doorknob falls to the ground and Austin comes in with a fire extinguisher in one hand.
My jaw drops. "Are you serious?" He literally broke the doorknob to get in. "You're getting us a new doorknob. You know that, right?" I point at the dented doorknob on the ground.
"Why'd you lock the door?" he glares at me.
I eye the fire extinguisher in his hand. "Before you start talking, drop the fire extinguisher."
He rolls his eyes and puts it aside. He swings the door close but it leaves ajar considering its lack of a doorknob. "Can we stop with the fighting?" he looks at sternly, his hands cross over his chest.
I get back to my bed and cross my legs, putting my laptop on top of them. I continue typing, ignoring Austin. He sighs and stands by the wall, leaning against it and staring at me. "Well?" he raises an eyebrow.
"I really need to finish this term paper," I tell him. And I'm not lying. I do have to finish this paper. It's due tomorrow!
"Right..." he trails off and walks towards the stereo. "Because how can you finish your paper with all this noise?" he cocks his head at the side. I turn to look at him with furrowed brows.
What noise?
Suddenly, music blasts from the stereo. I cover my ears and glare at Austin who is playing air guitar to the music. The music is so loud I can't hear myself think. I stand up and unplug the stereo.
"Are you an idiot or something?" I ask exasperated.
"That depends. Would you forgive an idiot?" he looks at me smugly.
I shake my head. "Give me three valid reasons why I should forgive you," I tell him. "Because you were being such an ass."
He fake gasps. "You cursed!"
"Right now, I couldn't care any less."
He sighs and look sat me firmly. "Well first, I didn't mean to lose my temper and through it all at you. I have horrible temper and should learn to control it and I will try to. It won't happen again," he starts.
"And?"
"Second, I'm not your father, but I am your roommate and roommates should look out for each other and I'm a protective person. But I guess I sort of crossed the line on the protectiveness there," he smiles at me sheepishly.
I frown. "Sort of?"
He rolls his eyes. "Okay, I did crossed the line. Big time. But third, we can't keep this fight going. You can't ignore me for the whole year and I can't not talk to you for the whole year."
I sigh. How can I not forgive this guy? His gorgeous green eyes look down at me and I can't help but forgive me. "Okay, you got me. But this is your last chance, Lancer. No more third chances."
He grins widely, "A second chance is all I need."

"A Halloween party?" I look between Megan and Alanna as they go through the rack of costumes. Right now, we're shopping for costumes because apparently, we're going to a Halloween party.
"The only time of the year where girls can dress as sluts," Megan grins as she eyes a sexy bunny outfit.
"And not be judged," Alanna adds.
Alanna goes through a rack of skin fit onesies. She gapes at us. "How about we all go as Totally Spies?" she suggests.
I wrinkle my nose. "You mean those three cartooned girls? Pass."
Alanna lets out a disappointing sigh before going back to the racks. "What about Charlie's Angels?" Megan looks at us.
Alanna jumps and claps. "Yes!"
"No," I quickly say. "And why are we only suggesting spies? Can you choose something else?"
Megan groans. "Fine."
"What about vampires?" Alanna asks.
Megan nods. "That can be good...wait. I have the perfect outfit!" they both look at me and I shrug.
"Sure, why not."
Megan jumps to my side and clasps my hands. "Great. I already have an outfit for you so now we just need fake teeth, colored contacts and fake blood."
We shop for what we need and head back to the campus to get ready. We head to the party around eleven o' clock. Andre texts me that he and the other just arrived. I text him to meet me by the refreshment table. The girls and I walk together to get some drinks. I hear faint whistles and hoots. Megan grins widely and sways her hips more as she walks. I shake my head, chuckling at her.
"Hey sexy," a random guy winks at me. "You look familiar. What's your name?"
I flush at his words. Sexy. I have never been called sexy in my entire life. I open my mouth to say something but someone else's arm wraps around my waist pulling me close to their side.
"Back off, horny junior." Andre glares at the guy. I stifle out a laugh. He looks down at with furrowed brows.
"Horny Junior?" I raise my eyebrows at him.
He shrugs before his expression changes. He eyes my outfit and his mouth drops open. "Damn, my girlfriend's hot." He mutters under his breath.
Two. Two words no one has ever called me in my entire life until tonight. Sexy and girlfriend.
I eye his zombie costume. His blood-soaked white tee shirt is ripped and shows off his six pack abs. I bite my lip. Damn, my boyfriend is hot! "You're not so bad yourself," I smirk.
"Want a drink?" he asks lifting up a beer.
I shake my head. "Actually, Megan, Alanna and I were supposed to-" I stop when I see Alanna and Megan dancing in the dancefloor. I frown and grab the beer Andre held up. "Never mind."
I look at the bottle. "You got a bottle opener?" I ask.
He palms his forehead. "Right. I forgot about that," he grabs me bottle. "Stay here. I'll be right back."
He leaves and I stand there looking around. I watch the people dance and drink and make out. I look around until my eyes meet the familiar pair of green. Standing a few feet away from me and staring at me intently is not only the hottest guy in the campus, but is now also the hottest lifeguard.
He approaches me and whistles. "Ren Harper? Is that you?"
I roll my eyes, laughing. "Yes, Austin Lancer. It's me."
He smirks, "You're looking hot." He eyes me from top to bottom. I glance at Andre who is still at the kitchen opening the bottle.
I shove Austin lightly. "Stop checking me out you perv. I have a boyfriend," I nod at Andre's direction.
He doesn't even look over his shoulder. He crosses his arms over his chest, making his biceps appear larger. "Right, Mr. Kissy Face."
I narrow my eyes at him. "Don't call him that."
He looks over his shoulder before turning back to me. "Well sees like you prince charming is coming back so I guess I'll see you around," he gives me a salute before leaving.
Andre emerges from the dancefloor, holding my opened bottle. He hands it to me. "What did he want?" He asks bluntly, nodding at Austin's retreating figure.
"He just came to say hi," I lie.
He sighs, knowing he doesn't want to start an argument about him. He changes the topic. "Want to dance?" he offers a hand.
I chug down my drink and put the bottle on the table. I take his hand. "Let's go!"
We leads me to the dancefloor. We has both his hands on my hips and I have my arms wrapped around his neck. We sway our hips to the music. We take a few breaks, going back and forth from the tequila table to the dancefloor.
Now, I'm probably done with my fifth shot. I take my sixth one and feel the burning sensation down my throat. I wrinkle my face and grab Andre's hand, towing him to the dancefloor.
I pump my fists in the air and sway my hips more. I holler and sing along. Andre chuckles lightly, "You've had too much shots."
I shake my head. "I lack a few shots. We should get more!"
I start to make a run for the tequila when Andre grabs my wrist. "I said, you've had too much. That's enough." His voice so stern. I giggle at how serious he is.
I pat his chest. "Lighten up, Mr. Cranky pants." I turn on my heels and call the bartender for another shot. He tugs on my arm again. "That's it. I'm taking you home."
He starts to tow me through the crowd, heading towards the front door. "No! I don't want to go home!" I whine.
I catch a glimpse of Austin, talking to some guy. I try to wiggle out of Andre's grasp. "Austin! Austin!"
Austin looks around, dumbfounded. His eyes meet mine and he quickly approaches us. He glances at Andre's hand gripping my wrist. "What's going on here?" he narrows his eye at Andre.
"He's kidnapping me," I pout.
Andre sighs. "She's drunk so I'm bringing her home."
I turn to look at Andre with the best puppy-dog-eyes I can make. "But I want to stay."
"No, you have to go."
I groan in defeat. "Fine, but in one condition."
Andre releases my wrist and puts his hands on his hips. "And what would that be?"
I cross my arms over my chest. "I want Austin to take me."
Andre turns to look at Austin. He's pissed. "Not a chance," Andre mutters under his breath.
Austin ignore his statement. "I can take her."
"No," Andre says, deadpanned.
"Let Austin take me!" I exclaim. I feel like a five year old.
"Guys, what the hell is going on?"
I look to my right and see Alanna coming to join us. "I could hear Ren yelling from the restroom."
"She's drunk," Austin tells her.
"And she wants Austin to take her home," Andre doesn't stop glaring at Austin.
"So?" Alanna looks between them. "What's the problem?"
"I didn't think we had a problem," Austin says nonchalantly. He turns to Andre, raising his eyebrows. "Do we?"
Andre rolls his eyes at him. "Alanna, do you mind taking her?"
She smiles. "Of course I don't mind. She'd do the same for me."
Andre smiles out of relief. I pout. I want Austin to take me. I raise my hand. "Do I get a say at this?"
"No," Andre says.
"Hmph," I pout.
Alanna helps me walk to my car and she drives me back to the UNI. She gets me to bed after taking some Advil. Fortunately, I was able to manage not to vomit on any of the furniture. Thank God for friends like Alanna.
