Chapter Twenty-Five
Roommates
Chapter Twenty-five
Ren
I hate horror movies. It was Amanda's idea to watch The Conjuring at twelve o' clock, midnight. Megan is curled up with Travis and Alanna is with Adam. Amanda is front and center, enjoying the movie. How can she enjoy this?!
"Ah!" I scream when a face pops out of nowhere. I cover my eyes with my blanket before slowly peeking back at the screen. "I don't like this..."
"Shh." Adam shushes me.
Suddeny, the door bursts open. We all scream. "Pause the movie!" I plead. Amanda pauses the movie and I catch my breath. I look at the door and see Austin staring at us.
"What's up...?" he asks us.
Amanda rolls her eyes at him before playing the movie once more. I turn away from him and wrap the blanket tight around my shoulders. I hear the scary sound effect of the movie and I jump. I feel someone wrap their arms around me and I look over my shoulder and see Austin.
I'm sitting on the floor between Austin's legs, wrapped in his arms. I rest my head on his chest and try hard not to scream any more the entire movie. At the end of the movie, I shake my head and let out a breath of relief.
"That wasn't so bad..." Travis comments.
Megan scoffs. "You scream like a five year old girl," she laughs at him and he glares at her.
"Who's up for horror movie number two?" Amanda raises her hand and everyone shakes their head, well, except for Megan.
"I just want to sleep." I mutter.
"Agree," Adam says.
"Same here," Travis adds.
Amanda pouts. "You people are boring."
"You guys are no fun," Megan states.
"You nocturnal girls are crazy," Travis points out.
I yawn and Austin rubs my shoulders. "I think it's time for all of us to go to bed." He looks at Amanda and she rolls her eyes at him.
"Whatever, dad." She says. "I'll be crashing at Alanna's for the night."
They all leave and I try to stand up, but I'm too tired. Austin effortlessly picks me up from the ground and puts me on my bed. He leans down and kisses me on my forehead. "Go to sleep, princess."
I blink at him. "I don't think I can."
He sighs, "Were you that scared of the movie?"
I nod, "Yes."
"Okay." He gets in bed with me and I give him some space. I turn on my other side and he spoons me. He rests his chin on top of my head and I hold his hands. I close my eyes and try to sleep. And slowly, I drift to sleep.
I wake up to an empty bed. I pout. I slowly sit up, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. My eyes gaze at the note on my desk. I get out of bed and grab the note, reading it.
Had to go to class. You looked so tired, didn't want to wake you. I'll see you later, princess. âA
I smile. Can he be any cheesier? I put the note down and head for the shower. I take a quick shower and change into clean clothes. I check the time and it's thirty minutes till my first class.
The door bursts open and Travis comes in. His expression shows relief when he sees me. Before closing the door, he looks outside looking left and right then he closes the door.
"Ren, I've got a problem." He tells me before explaining everything to me.
"You just asked her?" I gape, shaking my head in disappointment.
He nods furiously. "What was I supposed to do? Put up a sign that read 'Will you go to the formal with me?' and perhaps be waiting by the sign holding a bouquet of flowers?" he laughs like he was telling a joke.
I stare at him blankly. "Apparently so."
He stops laughing. "Seriously?" he groans and runs his hand down his face. "What am I supposed to do now? She said she'd think about it. I feel bad now. Megan deserve better than a question. What was I thinking?!"
He falls on Austin's bed and stares at the ceiling, hopelessly. "You can try asking her again," I suggest. "Megan loves big proposals. So I'd put some thought into how you're going to ask her."
He nods. "Thanks, Ren. Oh, and if Megan ever asks..."
"My mouth is sealed." I mimic a zipper over my mouth.
He smiles. "Thanks again." He gets up from the bed and starts to head out, before turning to me. "Has Austin asked you to the formal yet?"
I shake my head. "We're a couple. I didn't think we needed a proposal...or do we?"
He shrugs. "Austin always did love anything extra. Perhaps he will," he says.
The formal is in three weeks though. "By the way, Alanna needs you. She's waiting for you at the library." He says before leaving without another word.
Library? Why there? I grab my phone and wallet before heading out to the campus library. I go through every aisle in the library but can't find Alanna anywhere. I scroll through my contacts and click on her name.
"Hello?"
"Where are you?" I ask, walking around the library still looking. "I'm at the library."
She pauses. "I'm not-oh! Right, yes I am at the library."
I blink. "I know, Travis said so. So where are you specifically?" Such a weirdo. She pauses and I hear someone else talking in the background. "Who's that? Who are you talking to?" I ask.
"No one," she quickly answers.
"Okay..."
"I'm at the F section. See you there." She hangs up and I shove my phone at my back pocket. I head to the F section. Alanna isn't here. I groan and call her once again, but she doesn't pick up. I sigh and walk across the F section. I look up at the very tall and wide shelf of books.
Why are the books so weirdly arranged? I stop and take a closer look. Most of the books are dark blue covered and those that are red are arranged in a way where you can make words out of them. I start from the top.
"W.I.L.L." I spell out. "Will...you...go...to...the..." I gasp. "No way." I turn to the end of the section and Austin is standing there holding a bouquet of sunflower. Sunflowers. I laugh lightly and approach him as he does the same.
Once we've reached other, he kneels down and smiles up at me. I look behind him and find a crowd of people watching. One of them are the gang; Travis, Megan, Alanna and Adam.
"Princess," he says and the girls behind him start to swoon. How can I blame them? I, myself, am swooning too. "Will you go to the formal with me?" I chorus of awes will the entire library and we both laugh at that.
I nod my head. "Of course, I will." He hands me the flowers and I take it before wrapping my arms around him. He wraps his arms around my waist and spins me for a moment.
He puts me down and rests his forehead against mine. I stare up at his green eyes as he stares down at my brown ones. I can't wait to go to the formal with him.
