Chapter Twenty-Six

Ren

The formal is in a week. Travis finally had the guts to ask Megan, properly. It was so romantic. He brought her to the rooftop and put up five signs that had five different reasons why Megan should go to the formal with him. Megan couldn't refuse. Travis confessed on how much he liked her. Megan swoons as she tells me and Alanna everything.

"He's perfect guys," she says.

I smile. "The three of us going to the formal with three of the hottest boys in the campus," I state. "How about that?" Megan and Alanna raises their hands for a high-five and I clap their hands with mine.

"More like three guys going to the formal with three of the hottest girls in the campus," Alanna winks and we laugh.

"We've got our date," Megan rubs her hands together. "What about dresses?"

"I know this cool place where we can rent the most gorgeous dress," Alanna's eyes widen in excitement.

"Who's up for dress shopping?" she adds.

I shrug. "I don't have any more classes."

"Neither do I," Megan says.

"Great! Let's go." Alanna says.

I grab my keys and we head down to the parking lot. I drive towards the mall and we enter this store Alanna mentioned. We separate and grab a couple of dresses we like. We all come back with dresses. Alanna goes in the fitting room first. She starts fitting the dresses she chose. She comes out wearing a light blue cocktail dress that's strapless on one side. A darker shade of blue for a thin belt around the waist.

Alanna shakes her head. "It's too plain." She heads back in the fitting room and strips it off. She takes another five minutes, putting on the next dress.

She comes out in a beige cocktail dress that's tight all over her body. Black lace lays over the beige base of the dress. She comes out, frowning. "What's wrong?" I cock my head at the side.

She grabs whatever she can around her stomach. "I got flab!" she whines. "I can't find a dress."

Megan groans. "Alanna, what is wrong? You're complaining like you've never complained before."

Alanna rubs her arm shyly. She shakes her head. "It's nothing."

I frown. "It's not nothing. You're not like this, A. What's wrong?"

"It's Adam. I can't stop thinking about going to the formal with Adam. I mean, he could've asked any other girl but he asked me. I have to impress him and not let him down. I need the perfect dress, the perfect makeup and-"

"Hold on. What?" I stare at Alanna in dismay. "You don't need the perfect dress to impress him and you don't need the perfect makeup to either. Adam has asked you out because you are already perfect."

Megan goes in her fitting room and grabs the last dress Alanna chose. She hands it to her. "Try this one," she says.

Alanna nods before walking back in the fitting room. She walks through the curtain in a long red dress that shapes her body. It's sleeveless and has a slit that goes from the middle of her thigh to the end.

Megan's jaw drops to the floor and I stare at her in awe. I point at the dress. "That's definitely the one," I tell her.

She runs her hands down the fabric. "You think so?"

"We know so," Megan nods.

She smiles. "I guess I'll rent this one out." She disappears and Megan goes inside the fitting room for her turn. Alanna comes back just in time to see Megan's first dress.

It's a long eggshell white dress. It has a lace halter top and a silk fabric from the hips to the end. Megan grins at us both. "Well?"

I nod slowly. "It's beautiful, really."

"But?" Megan twirls her hand in a circle.

"But you look like you're getting hitched." Alanna and I both say together.

Megan looks down at her dress and pouts. "Okay," she walks back to the fitting room. "I'm going to put on this black one."

After changing, Megan comes out in a long-sleeved black dress. Its sleeves are made out of lace and a slit at the back from the middle of her back thighs to the end.

Alanna gasp. "You stunning!"

Megan smiles. "Really?"

"Get it!" I tell her.

Megan claps her hands and hastily gets back inside to change. She gets out, back in her original clothing and rents the dress. I get in the fitting room and try on the first dress. I put on a light pink dress. Its length in the front is shorter than in the back. It's strapless and has silver sequins mimicking a belt around the waist.

I walk out and they both cringe. "Nu-uh," Megan shoos me back in.

"I swear it looked nice when I picked it out from the rack," I mutter under my breath.

I change into a royal blue dress and walk out of the fitting room. "Okay, I'm officially convinced that you have no idea how to pick a dress, Ren." Megan says bluntly.

I smile at her sheepishly. "That bad?"

"Yep," they both say in sync.

I get back in a change again. And again. And again. And again.

I groan in frustration. "I can't do this anymore," I say exasperated.

Alanna approaches me and puts her hands on my shoulders. She nods at the fitting room. "You still have one more dress to try on. Don't give up just yet." She smiles encouragingly.

I sigh before nodding. "Alright." I try on the last dress. I put on a rose gold sparkly dress that tight around my torso, waist and hips but flows down to the ground. It's sleeveless and a slit from the middle of my thigh to the end.

I walk out of the fitting room and Megan and Alanna smile in accomplisment. "That's the one."
