Chapter Twenty-Seven
Roommates
Chapter Twenty-Seven
Austin
I'm the king of FIFA. I pump my fist in the air when I win against Travis and Adam. I laugh at the thought. "Two against me," I tell them. "And I still win."
Adam shakes his head in disbelief. "I can't believe you won."
"You probably cheated," Travis mutters under his breath.
I scoff. "You're just sad because I beat your ass."
"Whatever," Travis roll his eyes at him.
"No one can beat me," I laugh.
"I can," I turn around and find Ren leaning against the wall by the door.
I narrow my eyes at her. Has she been here the entire time? "How long were you standing there?" I approach her and grab her hand, bringing it up to my lips and kissing her knuckles.
She drops her hand back to her side and shrugs, walking pass me and grabbing a controller. "Want to play?" she raises an eyebrow.
I put my hands on my hips. "You don't even play FIFA."
She grins. "Well not until Andre-" she frowns. "-taught me."
I sigh, bending down and grabbing my other controller. Change the subject. "Let's play."
After the game, Ren jumps up from the ground and gives Travis and Adam a high-five. I sit on the ground with my jaw on the floor, staring at the screen. What?
"2-1!" she points at me.
I cross my arms over my chest. "That last goal of yours was pure luck."
Adam pats my back. "It's okay to admit that your girlfriend beat you in FIFA."
"You call yourself the king of FIFA," Travis points out. "So what's a king without his queen, eh?" he gestures to Ren who is grinning like a madman.
I stand up and wrap my arms around her waist. I kiss her temple. "Good job, princess."
She raises an eyebrow. "What? Not queen?"
I shake my head. "A king overpowers his queen. You're my princess and I'm your knight," I say. "Therefore, you have the power. Not me."
Ren shakes her head, chuckling lightly. "You're definitely good with words, Lancer."
Travis coughs. We turn to look at him and Adam. Travis jabs his thumb at the door. "Yeah, we're going to get going before..." he shrugs. "...anything happens here."
"See yah, Ren." Travis nods at me before heading out the door.
"See you around, guys." Adam salutes us both before following Travis out.
I release Ren and approach my desk. I grab my phone and plug it to my speakers. I turn to Ren and ask what she wants to listen to. Of course, she choose Ed Sheeran. She loves him. Sort of makes me jealous.
I play A-Team and grab her hand, spinning her. She giggles. God, it's the most pleasant sound. I wrap my right arm around her waist and hold her hand with my left.
She smiles at up me. "What are we doing?"
I shrug. "Dancing."
She lets go of my hand and wraps her arms around my neck. I wrap my arms around her waist. I rest my forehead against hers. She closes her eyes and I stare at her lips. I want to kiss her so bad.
She slowly licks her lips and I take a sharp breath. "Austin?"
I sigh quietly. "Yeah?"
"What's going to happen after we graduate?" she asks softly.
I pull my forehead away from hers and look down at her. "I don't know. Why do you ask?"
"We'll be leaving to different places. How do we even deal with that?" her voice cracks.
I pull her into an embrace. "Shh," I tell her. "We'll figure it out. We always do."
She shakes her head not believing me. "Travis wants to start his own business, Megan is going to take over her family's company, Alanna wants to be a pilot, Adam is going to be an architect and you are going to take over your father's business." She adds.
I grab my face and make her look at me. "Hey," I start. "After all we've been through? We're not going to let our careers get in the way of our friendship. I'm not saying it's going to be easy, but we'll figure it out, alright?"
"And me?" I add. "I'm not going anywhere. I'll follow you anywhere, Ren. Anywhere."
