Roommates

Chapter Six

Ren

I'm dead. I keep my eyes close, fearing what I might see when I open them. What will I see when I open them? Bright white light? God? Hospital lights?

"You can let go now, princess."

I open one of my eyes and find myself alive. I let out a breath I didn't think I was holding. I release my hug from Austin's waist and he too breathes out.

I look around and it seems like we're in the middle of nowhere. Where are we? I turn to look at Austin removing his helmet and resting it on the seat of his bike.

"Are you going to kill me here?" I ask.

He rolls his eyes and starts walking in front of me. He keeps walking until he reaches the edge of the cliff. He sits down on the ground and uses his hands for support. I slowly walk up to him and join him.

I turn to Austin and watch him. He turns to me and I quickly shift my gaze to the ground. He brings his hands up to my face and faces it to him.

"You're missing the best part," he says before turning my face to what's in front of us.

My jaw drops open at the view in front of us. It's breathtaking. You can see everything from here; the city, the lights, the red lights from the cars going by. So beautiful.

"Where are we?" I ask without taking my eyes off of the view.

"The guys and I found it accidentally," he tells me. "We don't really have a name for it."

I hug my legs to my chest and rest my head on my knees. I watch the cars go by and I wish I brought a camera with me. This is too beautiful to not take a photo of.

"Ren."

I lift my head up from my knees and look at him. "Yeah?"

He has his gaze at the ground. Wrinkles form on his forehead as he furrows his brows. "I don't know if I should forgive Adam for what he did," he tells me.

I don't really know what Adam did and I don't want to ask because that'll just put him in a bad mood. "How long have you known Adam?" I ask and he looks at me like my question is irrelevant to his statement.

He shakes his head and shrugs, "I don't know. Middle school?"

"And has he ever let you down once? Besides the reason to all that fighting a while ago," I ask him again.

He thinks about it before slowly shaking his head. I smirk, "Then I guess you've got your answer."

If Megan and I got into a fight, it wasn't easy forgiving each other but we did anyways. Megan and I are like sisters and it sucks fighting with your sister. The same goes for Austin and Adam; they're like brothers to each other.

Austin looks down at his watch and stands up. He offers me a hand and I take it. He pulls me up to my feet and we walk back to his bike. We drive back to the UNI and the moment we get to dorm, I drop in bed and snuggle in my sheets, falling asleep in an instant.

"It's 3.14," I point out.

"But why? Why can't it be 3.15 or 3.13?" Austin asks.

I groan and rub my temples in frustration. "You're hopeless," I tell him, giving up.

Austin starts laughing and I furrow my brows in confusion. "Are you crazy or something?"

"I know why it's 3.14," he manages to say while laughing. "I just love messing with you."

I grab my notepad and whack him with it. "I hate tutoring you," I sit the notepad down and glare at him.

He crosses his arms and smirk, "You don't mean that princess."

I stand up and point my index finger at him. "And stop calling me that," I say sternly. I grab my phone and wallet. "I'm heading to Megan's room."

As I get on the elevator I start to wonder how much Austin has changed that past week. I smile to myself. It's good to finally get along with my roommate. I get to Megan's room and knocked before peeking my head inside. I find a big hump on her bed and I decide to lie flat on it.

"Son of a-"

I lift the comforter up and peek inside to see a pissed off Megan. I smile innocently at her. "Hi Megan," I wave and glares at me.

"Get off me," she growls and I do as she asked. She gets out of the comforter and sits up. Her hair is all over the place and I sniffle out a laugh. "Shut up, Harper."

"What's got you so mad? Bad nap?" I tilt my head to the side and she groans in frustration.

"I hate college," she groans.

I roll my eyes at her, "You say that every year."

"Yeah, but now I mean it."

"The year's just started and you're already giving up?" I raise an eyebrow at her.

"I thought you knew me."

I scoff, "I do know you. I just didn't think all that cheating and bribing wore you out," I joke.

"Ha-ha very funny," she mocks. "I'm being serious here, I hate college."

I decide to change to subject and talk about how her parents are. Megan starts ranting about them and how they don't care about her and all. She keeps talking until we reach the topic of Austin.

"So, you're tutoring him now?" she asks and I shrug. "How is it?"

"He gets annoying at times, but it's nothing I can't handle."

Megan decides to go back to sleep and I leave her to it. I head to Adam's dorm and find him on his laptop. I sit on his bed, next to him, and peek on laptop screen.

"A report?" I ask.

"Mm-hm," is all he says.

"Why is everyone so busy today?" and suddenly Adam pumps his fist in the air, making me fall off the bed. Adam starts laughing and I glare at him. "Who pumps there fist in the air out of nowhere?" I gape at him.

He shuts his laptop and grins widely. "Someone who finishes their two thousand word report in five hours," he says proudly.

I roll my eyes at him and sit back on the bed. "Oh hey, did you hear about the new girl?" Adam asks.

I raise an eyebrow at him. "Aren't enrollments closed?" I ask. "How can there be a new girl?"

He shrugs, "Connections, I bet."

After hanging out with Adam, I left and attended my afternoon classes. After my classes, I head back to the dorm and start doing my reports. I had to finish two different reports tonight, but it was no problem. Luckily, Austin wasn't here to distract me and I got to finish both reports in two hours.

A few minutes after finishing my reports, Austin comes in and tries to convince me into joining him in a party.

"You're no fun," Austin states, heading towards the door.

"Just because I don't want to party doesn't mean I don't have fun," I point out and he turns around to look at me.

"Oh yeah? Name one fun thing you did," he crosses his arms over his chest.

"Riding your bike," I shrug.

He rolls his eyes, "Something you did without me involved."

I can't mention the last party I went to, considering that it was his party after all. Now that I'm thinking of it, I am no fun. Not one thing pops in my head.

"Exactly," Austin points out. He turns on his heels to exit the dorm when I stop him on his tracks.

"I'll go."

He turns around with a smirk on his face, "You will?"

"I finished all my schoolwork and don't really have anything else to do, so why not?" I shrug.

"Great," he says. "I'll see you there princess."

With that, he walks out without another word. I'm going to need help with makeup and my hair. I call Megan to tell her that I'm going to this party Austin mentioned. Unfortunately, Megan is still at the bus station dropping Bianca off. I guess I have to do this on my own.

I decide to go out simple with black shorts and a black lace top. I put on my beige flats and grab my beige purse and put my essentials inside. I turn to the mirror and do my makeup. I leave my eyelids bare except for the cat-eye eyeliner. I smile at my own reflection and check my outfit before heading out.

I stop in my tracks and face palm myself. I don't even know where the party is. I head out the door and call Kristen for the directions. She texts me the address and I press the lock button of my phone before shoving my phone in my back pocket.

"Excuse me?" I look up to meet an unfamiliar face. "Do you know where the party is?"

I raise an eyebrow at her. "Are you the new girl?" I ask.

She blushes in embarrassment, "That obvious?"

I shake my head. "Not really," I say. "I just haven't seen you around here."

She nods. "So do you know anything about Travis' party?"

My eyes widen. Travis' party? Heck, I didn't know that. The address Kristen sent me was probably the address to Travis' house. I nod, "I was just heading there. You can come with if you want?"

She smiles. "That'll be great, thanks."

"I'm Ren, by the way." I extend my hand but she pulls me into a hug instead.

"I'm Alanna," she smiles.

We head to the parking lot and take my car to get to Travis' place. We get to the party and to my surprise, Alanna doesn't leave me. She interlocks our arms and tows me towards the kitchen. We get there and she grabs two soda from the refrigerator.

She tosses me a soda and I catch it. "You are the first girl friend I made today," she says.

I pop the soda open and take a sip. "Really?"

"Why do you sound so surprise?" she chuckles and sits on the counter.

"You just seem so nice and friendly and God knows you got everyone's attention with your looks," I gape at her.

She shrugs, "I made a couple of guy friends but most of the girls back in the UNI don't seem to like me."

"What makes you say that?" I hop on the counter and join her.

"Well. A great number of guys were asking me out today and the girls didn't like it I presumed," she explains. "They call me a slut even when I didn't bother saying yes to any of the guys."

"Wow," is all I can say. "Tough day."

She scoffs, "Tell me about it."

We finish our sodas and head to the dance floor. Unlike me, Alanna's a great dancer. Next to her, I dance like a stick. She tells me loosen up and move hips with the music. We dance until our feet hurt but even then we continue dancing.

"Alanna."

We stop dancing and find Austin in front of us. "Oh hey, Austin," she nods at him.

He rubs the back of his neck anxiously and I narrow my eyes at him. "Listen, I was wondering if we could-"

"I'm not interested, Austin," Alanna retorts rather too harsh.

Austin looks taken aback but he nods his head, not showing any expression in his face. He leaves us and I turn to Alanna. "When did you meet Austin?" I ask.

"When I saw him and his cute friend talking," she says.

"Adam?"

She points at me and smirks, "That's who I like."

"He's really nice," I state.

"He is. We talked for a while and exchanged numbers and whatnot," she smiles like a high school girl and blushes.

We hear someone yelling from the distance and it doesn't stop. Alanna and I follow the yells out at the backyard. We find Travis on the ground, yelling at people.

"Am I in heaven?" he rolls around and bumps into someone's foot. "Get off me demon!"

Alanna and I start laughing. I can't believe Travis is drunk at his own party. I accidentally bump into someone and I turn to see Megan. "Megan!" I pull her into a hug and she pulls away quickly.

"Where are Austin and Adam?" she asks me frantically.

"Did you say Adam?" Alanna asks and Megan frowns at her.

"And who are you?"

"Alanna, the new girl."

"Ah, I've heard a few things about you," Megan purses her lips to a thin line "I'm Megan."

I shake my head, "Why are you looking for them?"

She nods at Travis. "We need to get him inside and we can't carry him."

I shrug, "Might as well try, right?"

Alanna grabs his legs, Megan wraps her arms around his chest, and I grab his torso. We put him on the couch and I pull out my phone to call Adam. Some guy passes the couch and laughs at Travis. Travis stands and tries to pummel at the guy but Megan and Alanna holds him down. Adam comes and tries to talk to Travis.

Basically, the entire night consists of babysitting Travis. The party ends around three in the morning and the whole house is trashed. Adam suggests we spend the night here.

"Travis owes you guys anyway," Adam adds.

Alanna, Megan, and I head upstairs to the guest room. Adam handed us a couple of Travis' clothes for the night. We take a quick shower and change into Travis' clothes. Alanna takes one of the beds while Megan and I share one. They drift to sleep and the moment I close my eyes I feel someone poking me arm.

"Ren?"

I blink my eyes open and see Austin. "Butt off, Austin,"

"I need you to do me a favor," he whispers.

"No."

"I wasn't asking."

I groan lightly and glare at Austin. "Can we do this tomorrow?"

"No," he smirks.

"What do you want?"

"I like your new friend," he nods at Alanna.

I roll my eyes at him. "She's not interested in you," I point out. "She likes Adam."

He scoffs, "The guy owes me one."

"So what the heck do you want me to do?" I whisper loudly.

"Say nice things about me. Make her like me," he tells me.

"Why can't you just work your magic like you always do around skanks?" I raise an eyebrow at him.

"Of course, I will. But with the extra effort, the chances of dating her are higher," he says.

I sigh, "I love your logic, Lancer, but no."

He narrows his eyes at me. "I don't take no for an answer, Harper."

"Well there's a first for everything."
