Simple Day: Her Beta Chapter 12

Her Beta

Chapter 12:

Another two weeks has already gone by an Elliot and Adam had left. Apparently the Alpha of their pack had called them back because Adam was only the son of the actual third in command, and this was his test of responsibility. Elliot and I had a very emotional good-bye where he made me promise that I would come visit within a week or two, and that was a week ago.

Vane told Oliver and I that he would like it if we would be willing to go to Elliot's pack in the next few days because the Alpha couldn't extend Adam's stay here, but he still wanted to discuss some new issues that had come up recently for his pack with us. Vane and Oliver were setting up all the details for our trip while Audra and I were packing whatever Oliver and I would need for our three day stay there in her and Vane's room. We were to arrive there and settle in the first day. Then we would spend the second day with Oliver discussing the new issues with the Alpha while I was free to wander around and explore. The final day we would both meet with the Alpha and get anything final out of the way.

Oliver and I were to leave tomorrow in our wolf forms due to the fact that all roads were snowed over and there were no real roads leading between the two packs. Either way, I was excited because I haven't gotten to run in wolf form for a very long time, and I would be able to run with Oliver.

"You know, I'm surprised you and Oliver haven't slept together yet." Audra suddenly spoke as she placed my clothes neatly into the duffle bag I was going to be using for the trip.

"Why is it surprising?" I asked as my cheeks lightly warmed to a pink color.

"It's surprising because mates normally get in between the sheets as soon as they can once they've found each other. Vane and I didn't because I was terrified of men. The rumors around here about me aren't true at all, I was never part of some rogue group or a toy for men to play with. My dad was extremely abusive and a drunk. He used to make me sit on his buddies' laps as they watched games, and they used to try to touch me, but nothing aside from that ever happened." Audra explained. I just looked at her in disbelief; how could someone so kind and beautiful ever have to go through that? "I ran away and became a rogue when I was fourteen. Finally a few years later, I ran into Vane and he protected me. He made me see that not all men are as terrible as my father and his friends had been. So that's why we spent so long not having sex. But I've got to admit that it's pretty amazing when you're doing it with the right person and the right way." She spoke finally looking at me with a sideways smile.

My cheeks just turned even redder at her last statement. She just chuckled at my expense. "Good for you and Vane, but Oliver and I haven't had the time or the right moment to instigate being together like that. I mean, we've come slightly close to mating for the first time, but we always get interrupted by someone or something. The first time we were interrupted by Elliot and Adam needing to leave, and my need to say good-bye to my best friend. The next time we were interrupted by you and Vane because Vane needed to tell us that we were going to go on this trip. And we haven't had any other times since then." I tell her in honesty. She just nods her head in acknowledgement.

"Well, maybe you'll have a chance while you're on your trip. Or you'll both find a chance after your trip once you've informed Vane and I about what the Alpha would like to speak about with us. I'm sure that you'll have a chance soon. I just know that you will." Audra says with a smile. I sigh and smile back at her. We sit for less than a minute when the color seems to drain slightly from Audra's face before she sprints to the nearest bathroom. I followed worriedly after her. When she reaches the toilet, she begins to throw-up and I'm forced to cover my nose to stop myself from ingesting the smell.

"Are you okay? Can I get you anything, Audra?" I ask once she's flushed the toilet and sprayed air freshener around the room. She nods her head and points to her purse. I grab her purse and hand it to her.

I watch worriedly as she looks through her purse before pulling out a picture that I can't see. She puts her purse down and looks at the picture carefully. She then hands the picture to me before speaking. "I need you to tell me how I tell Vane about that picture." Audra says laying her head back against the wall. I look at the picture before looking back up at her.

"Holy shit." I mutter out surprised. I'm about to say more when the bedroom door slams open, and Vane rushes in with Oliver in tow. Vane immediately moves around me check on his mate as Oliver comes to stand behind me.

"What's wrong? What's going on?" Vane asks not taking his worried gaze off of his mate.

"I think you should see this for yourself, big brother." Oliver says as he looks from my hands to his big brother. Vane immediately looks at me in confusion as I hand him the photo Audra had handed me. He looks at it in confusion before his eyes widen in realization. "Congrats Vane, you're going to be a dad. Audra seems to be going through morning sickness as she seems to be pregnant with your little pup. Shit, I'm going to be an uncle!" Oliver says before looking down at me.

I roll my eyes at his realization. Audra just looks at her mate expectantly as he continues to stare at the black and white ultrasound photo in his hand. It takes a minute for Vane to pull his gaze away from the photo and look at his mate. He looks at her as if he's asking her to confirm it. She nods her head slightly before getting sick again. Vane just rubs her back and he helps her stand and clean her mouth out from the taste.

Once they've sat back down again, Vane holds Audra close to him. "This is the best thing you could have ever given me. You are giving me the opportunity to have a family of my own with you, my one true love, after giving yourself completely to me. I'm sorry that this is causing you so much sickness, but I couldn't ask for a better thing to happen because I love you and I know that you and I will make amazing parents." He speaks into Audra's hair. She is still pale and looks extremely tired, but an elated smile crosses her face as she hugs Vane's arms to her.

As the happy couple whispered in their little bubble of joy, Oliver and I slipped out of the room. I felt as Oliver's hand grabbed mine; I looked at him curiously only to see him smile happily down at me. I just continued to look at him curiously as he smiled. He lightly squeezed my hand for a second still smiling at me. I just squeezed his hand back still confused by the look he had on his face. He shook his head before looking at his feet with the same smile on his face. I stopped and lightly tugged his hand as he continued before stopping as not to pull me, turning to face me. He was still smiling; I tilted my head to the side as I looked at him curiously still.

He immediately groaned out and slightly slumped his posture before straightening and taking my face into both of his hands. He lightly righted my head as he spoke, "Are you just going to use your irresistibly adorable head tilt against me all the time? Because you should know that you drive me crazy when you do, you make me just want to kiss you a billion times every time you tilt your head." He just kept his hands softly on my face as my head tilted again. He chuckled lightly as it ended in light groan. He righted my head softly again. "I'm just smiling because I'm happy for my big brother and mate-in-law, and I'm thinking about what it's going to be like when that's you and I. I'm not saying I want to get you pregnant any time soon, so don't get that little terrified look in your eyes, but I am saying that I am looking forward to my future with you. I'm saying that I am looking forward to when I get to hear that you and I are starting our own little family and we are forever bound together by the life that we'll have created together. That and the fact that my brother is about to be in a load of worry, and it will be amusing, and it's a really good thing that you and I moved out of the room we'd been in." He explained as he looked into my eyes.

I had started smiling the moment he'd explained that he was looking forward to our future together; my smile only grew with each word he'd spoken. I lightly laughed at his final statement. I could see Vane running around like a chicken with its head cut off worrying about Audra as she's pregnant and even more once their child was born. I could also imagine Audra hitting him upside the head to get him to pay attention to her. The images made me laugh even more. I looked up at Oliver when my laughter subsided, but my smile never left as I looked into his beautiful blue eyes.

He grabbed my hand and pulled me lightly down to the bottom floor and to the kitchen. He put me onto a stool chair at the kitchen counter as he tried to sneak a taste of the pack cook's dinner decision. I laughed when the cook, a very motherly-like woman with amazing cooking skills, turned to see Oliver's terrible attempt to steal some of the dinner and hit him over the head with an unusable spoon before flicking him in the behind with the towel hanging from her apron. My laughter caused her to turn her gaze to me as I felt Oliver hide behind me. She looked surprised to see me.

"I'm Lilith, but you can call me Lili if you'd like. Oliver does." I smiled at her. She just looked shocked to see me still smiling at her, and that Oliver's arms had moved to wrap warmly around me. I just turned to look at Oliver; he was already smiling down at me and took my head turn as a chance to kiss my cheek lightly. I just turned back to the cook with slightly red cheeks. "Would you like some help making dinner for everyone? I'm not an amazing cook, and I really can't make anything totally edible, but I know that with your directions that I should be of some use." I smiled at her still.

She was still frozen in shock as she stared at me. I slipped out of Oliver's arms to look at her slightly concerned and my head tilted ever so slightly. "Oh, aren't you the cutest thing ever?! Of course you may help me! Just make sure that Oliver doesn't steal any food." She suddenly sprung causing me to slightly jump in fright. Oliver chuckled at me before I turned a glare his way. The cook immediately brought me into a hug. "I'm so glad that little Olly Wolly has found his mate, and you are so beautiful and kind! You don't look like an ugly painting as so many of your generation of girls tend to look, and you seem so kind yet strong! I'm so glad you've finally arrived! Olly Wolly over there needs you to keep him out of trouble." She said holding my arms before she moved back to the food that she had been cooking up when we'd entered the kitchen.

I turned to look back at Oliver. His face held a look of complete horror. He looked at me and began to shake his head. "I agree. Olly Wolly needs someone to take care of him." I stated in a condescending tone with a smirk before Oliver could get a word out to stop me from teasing him. His expression immediately became pained, but I just chuckled lightly to myself before turning to the cook and waiting for her directions.

"I'm Lizzie, the pack's cook. I do all the cooking for this pack, so I'm well equipped to do all the cooking alone. But I'm always up for someone as beautiful and kind as you to help cook a bunch of food for all these animals." She spoke before she went on to direct me in what to do and how to help. I had a lot of fun helping her make dinner for the whole of the pack to eat and making sure that Oliver didn't get a bite of any of it. Lizzie and I had actually taken turns hitting him with the useless cooking spoon and rolled up hand towel.

"How about I make you something delicious to eat in our own personal kitchen in our wing? I'm not as good as Lizzie, but I know I can make you something at least half as good. Besides, you and I have got to get going early in the morning to make it in decent time to meet the Alpha." Oliver spoke as we walked hand-in-hand up to our wing of the house. I smiled and nodded my head in agreement.

Once we'd reached the kitchen, a very pristine and magazine-worthy kitchen, of the Beta wing, I sat on a stool around the island as Oliver moved to the cabinets and fridge. I watched as Oliver moved methodically through the kitchen like a fish through the water. I laughed lightly when he overdramatically handed me a roast beef sandwich with slowly melting cheddar cheese and a side of mashed potatoes. We smiled as we ate in silence before I started to feel sleep creeping in on me.

Oliver just lightly smiled before putting our dishes on the counter near the sink and picking me up in his arms. He carried my sleepy self to our room where he placed me gently on the bed. I scooted up and kicked my feet to scooch the blankets down far enough to crawl into. Oliver pulled the blankets over me fully before kissing my head.

"Let me go take care of our dishes, and then I will be right back." He whispered softly into my hair before standing straight up. I sleepily smiled at him and nodded. I watched him as he walked out of the room, and I continued watching the door and waiting for him to return. I smiled again when he entered and shook his head at me. He quickly pulled his shirt and jeans off, leaving both on the floor, before climbing in with me. I curled up against him and soon fell asleep to his soothing heartbeat.
