Her Beta Chapter 7: The Bestie
Her Beta
Chapter 7:
As I looked into the mirror above the sink, I shook my head at the pale girl in the mirror. I moved my hand to push my hair out of my eyes, the ends of my bangs almost beginning to brush my lashes while the rest of my hair stuck out in some places. I moved my gaze away from the mirror again and began to pull on the clothes I'd chosen.
The sweatpants were comfortable, but I had to tie the strings really tight to keep them up and the ends covered my feet completely. The shirt was a short dress on me, but it was completely comfy. I slowly opened the door and peeked out to see that Oliver was sitting on the bed scowling still. I opened the door further before running out and jumping onto the bed. I moved to my knees and crawled over to Oliver.
I sat back on my feet behind Oliver until I decided he needed my comfort. I moved up onto my knees and slowly, cautiously put my arms around Oliver's shoulders. He tensed for a moment before he relaxed back into me. I just held onto him, taking comfort in the warmth that he was emitting.
I moved my head to rest against the back of his head. I cautiously placed a light kiss on the back of his neck. I could feel Oliver smile as he relaxed even more into me. The image of his smile in my mind making me unconsciously smile softly. "I know that you were probably expecting your mate to run into your arms as you suddenly pulled her closer into you and kissed her. And I know that that's not what I've done or what I plan on doing any time soon, but you should know that I don't plan on going anywhere any time soon." I whispered against the back of his neck. He could feel the deep breathe he took as I spoke with my own fanning the back of his neck. "I've only been here for a few hours, I assume, but I'll admit I'm quite comfortable here."
His hands moved to hold lightly onto my arms still loosely laying around his neck. His thumbs began to rub softly on the skin of my arms as sparks pricked my skin following his fingers and laying between our skins where it touched. "Good because I'm not going to be letting you go anywhere anytime soon. I barely know you, but I know that you are quickly becoming everything to me, and I'll never let that go." Oliver promised as turned his head towards me. I moved back a little so that I could see his face better. He just smiled. "Let's get to bed. We've got to greet another pack's third-in-command and his mate tomorrow." Oliver sighed as he moved off of the bed.
I continued to kneel on the bed watching him as he pulled the covers back. He stepped away and smiled at me. He overdramatically gestured for me to climb under the covers he'd pulled back. I laughed softly at his playfulness before climbing in and curling up onto my side. I felt as the bed dipped, the blankets moved into place, and Oliver's warm arm slowly moved to hold my waist. I smiled before closing my eyes and falling fast asleep.
*~*
I was the first to wake up, and I quickly slipped out of bed, smiling lightly when I looked back at a sound asleep Oliver. I quietly slipped into the hall and found my way to Vane and Audra's room. I softly knocked on the door and waited a few moments until the door slowly opened for me to see an awake Audra. I smiled as I looked at her.
"I have nothing to wear besides the clothes from yesterday. So I was wondering if you would let me borrow something for today or as long as it takes for me to get my own stuff." I whispered with a small smile at her. She lightly laughed before holding her finger up, indicating for me to hold on for a second.
I waited in the hall quietly before Audra came out into the hall again. She smiled as she quietly shut her room door behind her and stood in the hallway with me. "Here is a winter dress with warm leggings for you to wear. We have to look slightly fancy for the guests coming here today. Oliver still sleeping?" She whispered as she handed me the thick, knitted, teal and black dress and a pair of black leggings. I just nodded my head in response. She smiled. "So is Vane. Those boys need to remember that the alpha that is sending his third here is very big on early arrival. Vane says late afternoon, but Alpha James will likely have his third-in-command arrive around noon. So you go get dressed and wake up your mate as I wake up mine." She spoke with a laughing smile on her face. I couldn't help, but smile with her.
I fake saluted before I walked back to Oliver's room with a laugh. I quietly opened the door and slipped back into the room. Oliver had moved to be burying his head in the pillow I had been laying on. I had to place a hand over my mouth the stop myself from laughing at him. I tip-toed to the bathroom and quickly changed into the dress and leggings before walking back into the bedroom.
I walked to the bed no longer worried about making noise. When I made it to the bed without waking Oliver, I crawled on top of in and scowled in thought at his sleeping form. Within seconds a mischievous smile found its way onto my face, I carefully placed my hands onto Oliver's sleeping body and pushed him toward the edge. He was hard to move due to him being a bit larger than me, and the fact that he was asleep and essentially dead weight as of this moment.
A loud thud sounded through the room as I finally pushed Oliver over the edge of the bed. I immediately grabbed onto the edge of the bed to keep myself on the bed as Oliver groaned awake. He opened his eyes to look at me with a scowl. "Was that really necessary for you to do? I happened to be sleeping quite well you know, little wolf." He glared sleepily.
"Luna Audra told me to wake you up because that third-in-command from a different pack is coming today. She said that the third and his mate should be here by noon because that alpha is odd about the time or something." I smiled still gripping the edge of the bed.
"Right, but- you're dressed. When did you get that and when did you get dressed?" He asked looking at me curiously.
"While you were too busy dreaming about chasing sheep, Audra gave me it." I spoke as I could feel the edge begin to slip from my hold. I began to scowl as I looked at Oliver. "Oliver, help me!" I exclaimed. But before Oliver could ask how he could help or make any move to help, the bedding slipped from my grasp causing me to fall off of the bed and onto Oliver, whom let a groan slip as he was forced back onto the ground from the force of my body landing on top of his.
Oliver suddenly began to laugh causing me to start to laugh with him. We laid there laughing together until it began to hurt. When our laughter subsided, Oliver looked down at me as I looked up at him, the both of us smiling. Oliver carefully placed his head back onto the ground, his arms immediately holding onto my waist. I placed my chin carefully onto his chest.
"So you're saying I need to get up and get ready so that I won't be half asleep when our guests arrive?" Oliver asked quietly. I slowly nodded my head against his chest. He took a deep breath and sighed before lifting the both of us up off of the floor. He moved his hand down my arm to my hand before pulling me into his closet where he looked for something the wear. "You owe me for pushing me off of the bed to wake me up." He mumbled as he pulled a gray button-up shirt on over a white t-shirt. I focused on his other clothes as he pulled a pair of dark jeans on.
"I don't owe you anything because you should have woken up with all the noise I had been making. You are the Beta to this pack; you should have been aware enough to wake up to even quieter sounds. Otherwise, in the case of someone bad getting in here, you could get killed for being too heavy a sleeper." I scolded looking at him. I watched as he rolled his eyes at my comment. My jaw clenched as he dismissed my scolding. "Fine, since you don't seem to care about your own safety, I wonder if you even care about mine." I gritted through my teeth before moving out of his closet.
I heard as he let out an angry growl before stomping out after me. "Of course I care about your safety, Lilith! But-" Oliver growled following after me.
"Oliver, what part of there is a psychopathic killer trying to take my mom and I, so he can keep us as his personal, perfect family, do you not get?! He has people that follow him, and they would break into any place they were told to if he asked. And he would ask if it meant getting me or my mother." I interrupted him angrily. I could feel the burn of tears in my eyes.
Oliver immediately softened as he looked at me. He lightly grabbed onto my arms and pulled me into him. I moved my arms around Oliver's torso as his arms held onto me tightly. "I'm sorry; I just want to block out that bit of information because I hate the idea of you having to be so afraid and having to see such awful things at such a young age. Come on, let's go greet this third-in-command and his mate." Oliver spoke, lightly rubbing my back. I nodded my head as we headed out of the room.
We quietly walked out of the room and into the hallway, meeting Vane and Audra as they came our way. Audra looked at me concerned, but I just gave a look asking her to just allow me to explain some other time. An understanding look crossed her face before we walked down a few hallways and down some stairs before we stood in a large entrance hall awaiting our coming guests.
We could hear the doors of their car slam close as they arrived. We listened as two sets of feet crunched on the snow to the door before we heard the workings of the doorknob click into place indicating someone was entering. We stood tall as we watched two people walk through the door. The taller one had dark brown hair and iridescent blue eyes while the shorter of the two had silver-blonde hair and sky blue eyes. Vane, Audra, and Oliver seemed confused upon the two men walking through the door, but upon seeing the silver-blonde male, I squealed letting go of Oliver to tackle the male.
"Oh my gosh! What are you doing here?! Wait, is this your mate? Damn you did good! Did you see my mate, didn't I do well too?" I squealed as I held a death grip on the shorter male.
"I came here with my mate because I was invited. Yes, I know, isn't he just gorgous?! Damn, looks like we both did good! I can't believe you're here! It's so good to see you!" He gushed with me as his arms held onto me as hard as I grip him. We were about to gush even more when a deep growl sounded from behind us; my waist was suddenly grabbed and I was pulled into a warm and rumbling chest. "Your hunk is growling aggressively at me, Lilith." He mockingly shook his head.
Oliver continued to growl, his chest vibrating against my back, as the other male moved closer to us. I moved my hands to hold onto Oliver's constricting arms. "Stop being a controlling mate because first off, he's gay. Second, that's the third-in-command and his mate. Finally, Oliver this is my best friend, Elliot, a gay werewolf that I've known for years." I spoke as Oliver's arms slowly loosened around my waist. I laughed lightly as I looked at Elliot with a smile and a shake of my head.
"Won't you both come in?" Vane's voice rang from behind us. I grabbed onto Oliver's hand and dragged him after Vane and Audra, whom was trying not to laugh. We followed them to Vane's office where Elliot's mate sat down across from Vane, who sat behind his desk with Audra's hand in his on the desk. Oliver and I stood to the side of Vane's desk, Oliver's arms secured around my waist again. I watched as Elliot's mate pulled him down onto his lap as Elliot blushed crimson. "Let's talk about the recent rouge sightings around both our packs." Vane spoke seriously.
