Chapter 73: Just Like That
The Miraculous Simone Gray
Simone could sense that something had happened just by looking at Gwenâs expression. She asked, âDid you have an argument with him?â
Gwen shook her head. âIt wasnât really an argument.â
She looked relieved and said, âI suddenly realized something. After pursuing him for so many years, I havenât captured his heart. Itâs pointless.â
She shrugged. âSo, I gave up.â
Simone was surprised. âYou really gave up this time? Are you willing to let go?â
Gwen forced a smile that was uglier than crying. âIâm willing. I truly gave up.â
âIf youâre willing to let go of Leon, then Iâm willing to let go of Harold.â
She continued, âIt was your inspiration that helped me make up my mind. Otherwise, I might have continued to waste my youth on him.â
That was the truth. She saw Simone break up with Leon and suddenly understood a lot of things.
Simone agreed. âYouâre right; why waste our youth on someone who isnât worth it? I support you!â
Gwen reached out and played with Simoneâs fingertips, sighing, âSimone, I suddenly realized that our experiences are similar. You were abandoned by your family, and when you found your way back, they favored the adopted daughter. As for me, although I havenât experienced abandonment, my parents donât love me either. And we both have childhood sweethearts that we like. But these two people are both heartless individuals.â
Her eyes turned red, but she didnât cry. âIt seems like weâre a bit unlucky and miserable.â
Simone knew that Gwen must be feeling sad about letting go of Harold.
Just like in her previous life, she was betrayed by her family and Leon, and it broke her heart.
She held Gwenâs hand and squeezed it. âThat was in the past. Weâll have a better future. Itâs better to endure a short pain than a long one, and itâs better to feel pain early than late. Itâs just family and men. If we donât want them, we donât need them.â
She continued, âLike the two of us. Weâre not blood sisters, but weâre closer than blood sisters. And as for men, out with the old, in with the new. Just like that.â
Gwen nodded vigorously, âYes, just like that. From now on, weâll live completely for ourselves. To hell with family and men, weâll leave them all behind.â
After saying that, she asked, âI feel like drinking. Do we have any alcohol at home?â
Simone shook her head. âNo, we didnât buy any.â
âHow about I order takeout?â Gwen snapped her fingers, âOrder, order, order!â
Simone used her phone to order takeout.
The two of them sat on the couch, enjoying the food and drinking ice-cold beer.
Gwen raised her glass and clinked it with Simoneâs. âTo a new life!â
Simone laughed, âTo a new life!â
Just then, Gwenâs phone started ringing. She glanced at it and saw that it was her mother calling.
Gwen hesitated for a moment before answering, âHello, Mom?â
Melindaâs cold voice came through the phone, âGwen, where are you? Why havenât you come home yet?â
Gwen responded nonchalantly, âIâm with Simone. Iâll come back later.â
Melinda chided her, âGwen, youâre being unreasonable.â
Gwen continued to be nonchalant, âI donât want to argue with you. Iâll come back when I feel like it.â
Melindaâs voice grew sharper, âGwen, you need to come back now. Itâs already late.â
Gwen sneered, âMrs. Foster, are you mistaken? You canât control me anymore.â
Melindaâs voice turned colder, âGwen, if you donât come back within an hour, donât ever come back.â
Gwenâs eyes filled with anger, but she maintained her composure. âFine. If thatâs what you want, I wonât come back.â
She hung up the phone and took a deep breath to calm herself.
Simone looked at Gwen with concern. âAre you okay?â
Gwen forced a smile, âIâm fine. Just annoyed.â
Simone reached out and patted Gwenâs shoulder. âYou have me, Gwen. Weâll get through this together.â
Gwen nodded, feeling grateful for Simoneâs support. âYes, we will.â
With that, the two friends continued to enjoy their meal and drink, determined to live their lives on their own terms, free from the constraints of their families and past relationships.
