The Return of The Lord God
Yayaxi held the phone with excitement and said, âCongratulations, Mitchell!â
Bai Lixin was currently reading a score, and he held the phone between his ear and shoulder and examined the score. âCongratulations on what, Mr. Yayaxi?â
Yayaxi smiled as he held the memo in his hand. âCongratulations on your first step to success. Youâre the most successful singer Iâve ever taken on, Mitchell.â
Bai Lixin picked up the pen, changed a note, and continued, âThank you.â
âAnd one more thing besides congratulations.â Yayaxi flipped through the memo and continued, âYou are, after all, still a newcomer, so you will have to start working within these two months.â
Bai Lixin paused for a moment as he revised the score and then asked, âYou mean youâve already taken on a job for me?â
âYes, itâs a good one, and itâs the other company that asked for you by name.â
Bai Lixin raised an eyebrow. It was only a variety show competition. Even if he was a good singer, he couldnât have made such an impact with just one song.
âMitchell, this really is a great opportunity!â Mr Yayaxi said excitedly, âDo you know which company has asked you to do a commercial? Itâs the Lambert family, one of the three great families! â
Bai Lixin rolled his eyes: ââ¦â I knew it. How could one song â¦. bring that much glamour? Itâs a Lambert family enterprise. Of course!
After waiting for a long time and hearing no sign of excitement from the other side, a lonely and excited Mr. Yayaxi was embarrassed.
âWell, Mitchell. I was approached by the general manager of the Lambert familyâs mineral water. They were planning to update their mineral water advertisement and he accidentally saw a video of you in The original music competition. He thought that your image fit in perfectly with their interpretation of mineral water, and he hoped you would accept the ad. â
Bai Lixin smiled as he put the sheet music down and held the phone to his ear with one hand, âWhat image fits their requirements?â
âEthereal, pure. It fts their interpretation of the word âwaterâ perfectly. â
The door to the music room was gently pushed open, and Bai Lixin lifted his eyes to see a tall figure slowly approaching him.
Bai Lixin put his finger to his lips in a âshhâ gesture and continued to address Yayaxi, âI didnât expect such a high opinion of me from the general manager, Mr Yayaxi, but I am only a newly signed singer who has not yet made his debut. From your experience, does this ad do me more good than harm or more harm than good? â
âNaturally, the pros outweigh the cons!â Yayaxi kept pacing around the office, âIt has all the advantages but none of the disadvantages. Iâve read the script, and thereâs a part where the actors have to sing at the source of the mine, which echoes with your career. I strongly recommend you take it. â
âOh, the pros outweigh the cons.â Bai Lixin as he let Hallyvette pull him into his arms, âWell, Mr Yayaxi, let me think about it overnight and Iâll give you an answer tomorrow.â
Mr.Yayaxi nodded, âYou think about it first.â
By the way, Mr Yayaxi, youâre my agent. If Iâm going to sign this ad, youâve got to get the most out of it for me. You mustnât let Lambert Enterprise take advantage of it. â Bai Lixin gave Hallyvette a deliberate glare as she spoke into the phone.
âThat is a certainty.â
âOkay, Iâm relieved then. I havenât finished revising the score here, so Iâll be busy, Mr Yayaxi. â
âOkay, see you later.â
Hallyvette casually put his briefcase aside. immediately Bai Lixin hung up the phone and gently nibbled at his neck, âWhat? Do you still look down on the Lambert family business? Do you still have to think about it? â
Bai Lixin rolled his eyes. âTell me, did you order the general manager of your mineral water company to come to me?â
Hallyvette shook his head. âNo, youâve wronged me. I just wandered into the mineral water company the day before yesterday and accidentally joined the advertising campaign. There were three people chosen to be the spokesperson for the campaign, all of whom were famous. One of them seemed to be a colleague of yours, Jonas. I gave my opinion briefly, and then I got a call for a video conference and left. â
Bai Lixin looked at the righteous Hallyvette up and down, picked up the phone and pressed â2â.
An airy, melodious song came out of Hallyvetteâs briefcase, and with a grin, Bai Lixin hung up the phone, âIndeed!â
âMr Lambert, I think your comment must have been âThe philosophy of our companyâs mineral water is to be environmentally friendly, ethereal, pure, and thorough. It is not about hiring whoever is famous. Please, we must not forget our original intention. âAm I right?â
âOh, so divine!â Hallyvette raised one eyebrow and said, âWeâre so in sync. We even say the same things. Tell me, do you feel so inseparable from me that you secretly put a bugger on me? â
Bai Lixin laughed angrily and patted Hallyvette twice on the cheek, âShame on you!â
âYou went to the mineral water plant in person and hinted so strongly that you just about put my picture in front of their faces, didnât you? I havenât even made my debut yet, but I already have spies around me. â
âSpies? Thatâs a terrible thing to say. â Hallyvette took Bai Lixinâs wrist in one hand and touched his moving lips with the other. âYou should have said, âthere are insidersâ.â
Before Bai Lixinâs lips could fully close, Hallyvette was quick to lower his head down and put his lips over them.
Their lips mingled for a long time, and then Bai Lixin murmured a soft gasp.
âHo-ho, to my ears, your gasps are much more beautiful than that song. Iâm touched every time I hear them.â
âNonsense.â Bai Lixinâs cheeks turned crimson.
âHow dare you say itâs nonsense? Feel it for yourself.â Hallyvette grabbed Bai Lixinâs hand and touched it to his stiff lower abdomen. âDo you feel it? I didnât react like this when I heard you sing.â
Bai Lixin could only leave him to his own devices, and he was quickly pinned beneath Hallyvette.
Inside an upscale flat, Jonas took a sip of his red wine and looked over at Borg, sitting on the sofa. âDid you see how Quark behaved? That bastard, itâs been five or six years and he still holds a grudge.â
âNo wonder, after all, Davis was his most valued pupil at the time.â Borg looked at Jonas in his white gown with his arms wrapped around his chest, envy in his eyes, and said, âYou and he are both public figures, and itâs been so many years since it happened that he has no direct evidence to threaten you. Besides, his hostility towards you is obvious to everyone. In this case, the audience will only see Quark as arrogant and insolent, which is advantageous to you. You donât have to care too much. â
Jonasâs face eased a little. âWell, okay. By the way, what happened to that ad with the Lamberts that you helped me negotiate earlier? â
Borgâs expression faltered slightly, âWell, thereâs been a slight change.â
âWhat changed?â
âI heard that the general manager of the mineral water company is interested in having Mitchell on board.â
âMitchell?â Jonasâs eyes widened. âThat Mitchell?â
âYes, the number one contestant in the song contest, Mitchell.â
âWhat? Is Wells out of his mind? Letting a kid whoâs not even a debutante endorse their product?â âWho the hell is this Mitchell?â Jonas slammed his glass down on the table.
âI checked his profile. His parents are ordinary people. He was a poor student until he graduated. He has no connections. â âWhat about after graduation?â
Jonas was silent for a moment.
âAfter graduation, he started training in the company. Mitchell was a non-existent person, so thereâs very little to find out about him, and from what Iâve seen so far, heâs a regular newcomer. â
âNo,â Jonas shook his head, âthis guyâs not easy. A kid plans a counterattack with one song? Not to mention with lack of contacts? Youâre close friends with Mr. Wells. Can he deny giving you face because of a small endorsement? It doesnât make sense.â
Borg didnât say anything. His mind went back to his two meetings with Bai Lixin. âAlthough I didnât find out much on Mitchell, there is one thing that concerns me. I approached Nigelus that day to find a new tune for you, but he turned it down. I planned to talk to him about it the next time I had the chance. I found Mitchell outside the door when I walked out.â
âHe heard you?â Jonasâs expression froze.
âI tested him, so I donât think so.â
âMr. Borg, I donât usually have much time to go to the company, and I can rarely come across this Mitchell. But I want to get close to him and see what kind of a fellow he really is. â Jonas picked up the red wine and poured it into his glass again, shaking it gently twice before taking a sip.
Borgâs eyes rolled, âOkay, Iâll arrange that. By the way Jonas, today is supposed to be the day your pheromones escape, arenât youâ¦â he swallowed, pausing and looking at Jonas, who was dressed in a light white gown.
Jonasâs hand on the glass of wine paused. He sneered away from Borgâs line of sight, then turned with a pure smile and said, âMr. Borg, thank you for your concern. Iâve taken my suppressant today, so my reaction will be delayed for half a month. Itâs getting late and I have two announcements tomorrow.â
There was a look of disappointment in Mr Borgâs eyes, but he nodded, âWell, in that case, Iâll leave you to it. The first announcement is at ten tomorrow morning, and Iâll have my assistant pick you up at nine. â
Jonas said, âOkay, I understand.â
After sending Borg away, Jonas suddenly went limp and his glass fell onto the soft carpet. The red wine in the glass soaked the dark red carpet, and there was no trace of it a few moments later.
He propped himself up with a pained expression and rubbed his hair irritably as he strode to a drawer on the wall. He pulled it open and took out a syringe.
He plunged it into his arm and, a moment later, took a deep breath and returned to his usual state.
Jonas looked at the syringe that he had thrown on the floor and bit his lip; this was not the way to go. He was in a vicious cycle now.
