I've always said it's my duty to make her happy.

As the only person who can bring forth her smile is me.

So I will continue to do so, and the first step is fulfilling my promises.

I can't regret it now.

Caught up in my conflict, I acted without full conscious.

And now, naturally, I have won.

"You scared me, Ayanokoji. Was it really necessary to worry me like that?"

Ms Chabashira asks me, after the announcements, before I enter the bus.

"I said this result was the one I desired. I did not lie about that."

"You could've specified what kind of result. Well, anyway. I don't know why i doubted you. You really are Class D's- no, Class C's ace."

"I'm just doing it for her, not for you. Do not mistaken."

"By 'her', do you mean Horikita?"

I nod.

She smiles.

"Go inside Ayanokoji. I'm sure she's waiting for the good news."

"Yeah."

I suppose I should fix things between us.

Because I'm sure today onwards, the light of the sky will be brighter than before.

"She's sleeping, huh?"

I return to the bus to see her unconscious-self.

I guess the tears also drained her energy.

"She's cute."

I can't believe I made such a cute face cry.

The next day

I come to school the next day,

Alone.

It's not as if I'd forgotten about her, nor am I trying to avoid her.

It's just, it's better if we are separated for now.

I thought I'd never see another day in this school until yesterday.

The clouds that sit on top of the school...

And also...

"Class C... huh?"

Though Ryuen and Ibuki did not get expelled, we still managed to ascend to a higher class: Class C

I, just like Ichinose, took a single note from my case and practically gifted it to Ryuen.

Because of that, I saved him.

How, you ask?

I wonder?

Though, the duo that did get expelled were Katsuragi and Sakayanagi.

And, just as I predicted, Sakayangi did not get expelled, because Class A saved her by paying the school 20,000,000 private points.

Which led to Katsuragi's downfall. He, alone, got expelled from this High school.

This was all within the plan of Class A's sole leader: Arisu Sakayanagi.

"How cunning."

Such sacrifice for the expulsion of Katsuragi?

Well, now the quarter of the class that followed Katsuragi would have switched to Sakayanagi's authority as she is the one who remains.

"That's cruel."

Though, I'm sure the person who was affected the most was...

"Ayanokoji!"

Ryuen.

"Good morning, Ryuen. Not smiling today, huh?"

"Tell me? What did you do? Class D's-no, Class C's mastermind. What did you do to defeat me?"

I will suffer no consequences, no punishments, no miscalculations.

So, it doesn't hurt to tell him.

"Listen close, because I'm going to say this once..."

And so, I start explaining.

10 minutes later

I enter the class, and sure enough, just like a certain day in the past, all eyes were directed toward me.

"Ayanokoji-kun... congratulations!"

Hirata was the first to speak, and then-

"CONGRATULATIONS!"

The entire class shouts simultaneously.

Well, I guess I should be accustomed to this by now.

Ever since I dated her, I've been at the centre of attention.

And, to be honest... it doesn't seem so bad.

"How did you do it? Ayanokoji-kun?" Kushida asks.

"It was Suzune's plan that worked at the end, I just followed her instructions. If anyone, it is her you should thank."

"Oh... speaking of the devil."

She looks toward the entrance to the classroom.

"Huh?"

I follow my eyes.

By the door, stood a young maiden.

With her long, silky black hair and a pair of diamonds behind her eyelids.

She is also my girlfriend.

She begins to move her lips, "Kiyotaka... how did you-"

"CONGRATULATIONS!"

"Huh?"

The entire class crowds around Suzune once again... just like that summer day.

And just like that day, I merely observe.

After School

I was called out to the back of the school.

Through a certain letter from a certain person.

As I make my way toward the back of the school,

The place both famous and infamous for a certain thing,

I reminisce.

"This is nostalgia?"

I just turn the corner and walk forward. What stood in front of my eyes was the back of a young girl with silky black hair. She looked upon the sky as if thanking someone, for something that went right. Maybe I overestimated the matter. Maybe she isn't mad after all.

Either way, I promised Suzune to get her to class A, so I will help her.

"Suzune..."

"Kiyotaka..." She turns around, "I-I'm sorry about yesterday."

"It's fine. It's my fault for not being clear."

"I... doubted you. Even though you are my boyfriend."

"I said it before, didn't I? That humans are the pinnacle of species because they doubt what they see?"

"I-I see... I guess those statements were useful after all..."

"There's always meaning to the words I say."

"D-Don't get too ahead of yourself! I acknowledge the fact that you're slightly better than me... but it doesn't mean you can boast about it..."

"I see." She's grown, "So then? Suzune? Why did you call me all the way out here?"

"Oh, yeah," she clears her throat, "Tell me, how... did you do it?"

"Did what?"

"Don't act dumb, Kiyotaka. You won... by yourself. How...? I thought you didn't get any notes?"

I sigh, "I guess I have to explain it again, don't I?"

How troublesome...

"It all started at the time we rested by the lake, when I discovered something peculiar about the waterproof cameras."

"A sticker... with our names written on it?"

I feel the surface of the sticker

And under it I feel...

"Our names are carved?"

The letters A.H were carved onto the camera, under the sticker.

'A' standing for Ayanokoji.

'H' standing for Horikita.

But why?

Why go through the hassle writing our names on stickers and sticking it onto the camera when our names are already engraved onto it, or the other way round.

"I see..."

I dip my camera into the lake, and smudge our name on the sticker.

A few minutes later

I prepare my fighting stance.

Against Ryuen, I have to be cautious.

I need to get his camera without him realizing.

Otherwise, this plan will fail.

He throws his helmet at me.

A distraction?

Then...

I'll use that distraction to distract him.

Whilst he aims for my stomach, I reach my hand out to his inside pocket, where his camera was, and swapped it out with my camera, where my name was smudged on the sticker stuck on it.

And with that, I succesfully swap cameras.

BANG!

I lay on the ground.

Whilst he starts to kick me, I feel the sticker on the camera that I stole.

Sure enough, the letters R.I were engraved on it.

That means... whatever this camera snaps... it will be categorized under the owners name: Ryuen and Ibuki.

And as they have my camera, whatever they snap under it... will be classified as my picture.

"I... win..."

A bitter win.

40 minutes later

I stand inside the tent that allows you to weigh in your result.

The inspector that is under the same tent looks at me.

"You have nothing to weigh. Don't waste my time, kid."

I look at him back, whilst taking the single note I stole from my case, "I am going to weigh this. Please allow me."

I also take out Ryuen's camera.

He looks at me, and smiles, "I guess you figured it out, huh?"

With this, Ryuen will have my single note under his name. Because the picture I am going to take will be stored in his camera.

A few minutes later

"AT FIRST PLACE, WITH 22500 NOTES... IS AYANOKOJI KIYOTAKA AND HORIKITA SUZUNE!"

Everyone's eyes widen, before setting their eyes on me.

"IN SECOND PLACE, WITH 7500 NOTES... IS ICHINOSE HONAMI AND KANZAKI RYUJI!

IN THIRD PLACE, WITH A SINGLE NOTE... IS RYUEN KAKERU AND IBUKI MIO!"

IN FOURTH PLACE, WITH NO NOTES... IS SAKAYANAGI ARISU AND KATSURAGI KOHEI!"

Everything went as planned.

To mark Ryuen's notes as my own.

Saving him from expulsion to repay him for his pity, with a pity of my own.

And also winning for a single person.

...Suzune?" I ask, finishing my explanation.

"Huh? Wait... everything went as you planned?"

"Since Ryuen took off with my case, I predicted the exact amount of notes everyone would accumulate, as well as my success."

She takes a step back.

"No way... Kiyotaka... who are you?"

I take a step forward, "I'm your boyfriend."

"Not that, I meant-"

"Now answer me. Is this enough to rekindle your happiness?"

We both stare, eye to eye.

I've done many unforgettable, unforgivable things.

And yet,

She still smiles, "Do I need to say? Jeez, I'll spell it out for blockheads like you,"

She takes a breath,

"I'm happy, because of you, I couldn't be more happy than I ever was. Thank you, Kiyotaka. For everything."

Her angelic smile shines on me, the light I sought.

"Then, was it worth it?"

I lie to her,

I cause her to worry,

I cause her to doubt,

I cause her to cry.

But... at the end... at the very least, tell me-

"Yes,"

That it was worth it.

"It was worth it."

She says softly,

"Kiyotaka, I'll make sure I won't doubt you next time. I can't doubt you. You're the only person I can rely on. And you're the only person beside my brother, that I love."

Though I failed to expand on this relationship, I still remain on school grounds and will continue to do so until we graduate.

And by then, we will rise to Class A.

Together, side by side, until the very end.
