Chapter 90
The Tyrant's Beloved Doll
The frosty winter wind blew without mercy. The air was chilly, and the cold wind felt like it was slicing through his skin. White breath smoked out from between Etonâs lips as he sat on Lizeâs palaceâs roof.
âWhat are you doing here?â
ââ¦Belkiel.â
âAre you enjoying solitude by yourself? Look who never grew up.â
Even though he said that, Belkiel squatted down next to Eton.
âWhere have you been?â Eton asked.
âYou already know,â Belkiel answered indifferently.
âThatâs right.â
Belkiel stared at the smirking Eton, then parted his lips again.
âHe didnât just kill one or two people. He is very familiar with blood. He even killed someone just a few days ago.â
âI know.â
âDo you know who the dead are?â
At the sudden question, Eton gazed at Belkiel.
âItâs their descendants.â
ââ¦â
âAnd of course, there are those who are not descendants. Anyway, itâs funny, right?â
Belkiel meticulously checked everything. Who are the people Raytan killed? Then finally, Belkiel soon found out that they were descendants of those who tried to drive out and destroy Eton in the past.
âDo you think this is a coincidence?â asked Belkiel.
Eton was silent for a moment then chuckled.
âI donât know.â
âYou truly act as if Iâm talking about someone elseâs business.â
âActually, it doesnât matter that much, Belkiel. Whether itâs a coincidence or not, the important thing isâ¦â
âThe important thing is, what?â
âItâs already too late to turn around.â
Eton looked down at the Imperial Palace in silence. The Imperial palace reflected in his blood-red eyes looked very different from before.
âA long time has passed, and countless things have changed⦠Strangely, I still feel like something is going to repeat.â
ââ¦â
âIt seems like something I didnât do then is happening now.â
âWhat the hell were you trying to do?â
Eton smirked again for a split second.
âDid you want revenge back then? On all those with blonde hair and blue eyes. Thatâs why you left the stigma, right?â Belkiel questioned.
ââ¦Yes, I did. It was a mark I left so that I could recognize them at a glance when I returned one day.â
Everyone spoke about the dazzling gold hair and the blue eyes that resemble the sea are proof that someone is part of the Imperial family. However, the truth was different. Those features were Etonâs markâ his mark for the traitors.
âDid you want to kill them all?â
ââ¦â
âLike what that kid is going to do?â
A heavy silence fell between the two of them. Eton didnât say anything. He only put on a blooming smile and a sorrowful gaze. Since he didnât get any reply, Belkiel started to open his mouth again, butâ¦
âI hope it snows, Belkiel.â
âWhat?â
âTo the point where it can cover all the blood and corpses.â
âWhat are you talking about? Where are the corpses?â
âIt will happen.â
ââ¦Eton?â
âEveryone will die soon, from now on.â
ââ¦â
âToday is the day it will all get started.â
Eton pointed down below them, and Belkielâs silver-blue eyes followed his hand. It was Yerena walking into Lizeâs palace.
âI said it already. Itâs too late to turn back now.â
His crimson eyes lit by the moonlight flickered.
âThis is just the beginning.â
***
âI donât know if Iâm just bothering you late at night, Lize.â
âYouâre not. Please donât worry about that, Yerena.â
Yerena responded with a light smile to Lizeâs answer.
â⦠Damn bitch.â
However, the words she cursed in her mind were completely different from her smiling face.
Yerena thought Lize would look like a corpse because everyone said she was dying, but she was still beautiful. Of course, with her condition it was clear that she was sickly, but it didnât seem to affect her beauty even the slightest bit.
Even so, she still looked thinner and more vacant than before. It was ironic.
âMy health is getting worse.â
Unfortunately, this was going to be the last time Lize will enjoy that beauty. She was going to die soon. Her intestines will feel like itâs burning, and her whole body will endlessly feel like itâs in an intense heat to the point she wants to throw up blood.
âAll I can do now is sit down. Please forgive me for being impolite.â
âHow could you expect such courtesy from a sick person?â
Yerenaâs eyes narrowed.
â⦠But, Lize, I didnât know you enjoy alcohol.â
Her malicious gaze focused on what was around Lizeâs bed. There were things on the clean marble floor that did not suit Lize at all: an empty wine bottle and a half-filled glass.
âIâm sorry to show you something you donât want to see, Yerena. Now medicine isnât working well, I canât sleep well at night. Thatâs why Iâm borrowing even the power of alcohol.â
It wasnât a lie. It was a miracle that Lizeâs body was still alive. Nowadays, she couldnât eat anything and was busy throwing up gastric juices.
Every night she would have a nightmare that hindered her from sleep, and now that she even couldnât eat anything, Lize couldnât help but drink all that wine.
ââ¦Itâs okay. Maybe what I brought you can help solace your heart,â Yerena spoke cautiously.
âEven if you and I arenât close, havenât we already known each other for more than ten years?â
âYes. Time goes so fast.â
âActually, I was really worried. Even more so after hearing that no medicine could work properly on you.â
Instead of answering, Lize only smiled at those words.
âLize, if youâre okay with it⦠I want to give you a present.â
ââ¦â
âWill you accept it?â
Lize solemnly observed her. Yerenaâs eyes flashed with zeal.
âLize?â
The vivid ambition on Yerenaâs face instantly disappeared, and she hastily changed it to a gentle expression as she looked at Lize.
âAbsolutely,â Lize also had a sweet smile with her unchangingly gentle face. âItâs a gift from you⦠I feel grateful.â
âIâm glad to hear that.â
Yerena bent over and picked up something that she had placed on the floor all this time.
âWhile preparing for His Majesty, I suddenly thought of you.â
What she put on the table was a long, black glass bottle.
âIt is a liquor made with medicinal substances that are good for the body. They said it works very well.â
ââ¦â
âIt will surely help you too.â
There was no answer in return. Lize only looked at Yerena with her characteristic gentle smile. As always, Yerena couldnât figure out what was the meaning behind it.
Perhaps Lize was suspicious of her, so Yerena spoke again in nervousness.
âOf course, I know you may find my gift unappealing. But donât worry, I sent the same thing to His Majesty this afternoon. If you want, itâs okay to confirm it first.â
âNo, Yerena,â Lize shook her head. âDidnât I already say it just now? Iâ¦â
Lize once again spoke with her soft voice, âItâs a gift from you, Yerena. Iâm happy with anything you give me.â
