Chapter 6

"Good morning" Peyton said as Lainey joined her in the kitchen.

"Morning." Lainey smiled back.

"Lainey, good morning can I get you anything for breakfast?" Chef Rue asked.

"A toasted bagel and cream cheese please, thanks." Lainey said walking over to the coffee pot.

After the girls were done with their breakfast they both headed off separately to work.

As noon rolled around Lainey found herself stuck in a meeting, so she texted Peyton for help.

Lainey- Call me

Peyton- Why

Lainey- Just please call me.

A few seconds later Lainey's phone started ringing.

"Lainey, what have I told you about your phone ringing during meetings." Her father scolded.

"Sorry, but I have to take this. It's Peyton, I told her to call if she needed anything."

"Lainey, I-"

"No! It's your fault she now calls me when she needs something so I'm going to answer and you just have to deal with it."

"You called?" Lainey said, answering the phone before her father had the chance to retort.

"You told me to" Peyton laughed from the other end.

"Ah, yes sorry I forgot. I'll be home right away I'm leaving now." Lainey said grabbing her stuff and turning to walk out while still on the phone.

"Wait you can't just leave in the middle of this meeting. We aren't-" but John was interrupted by his daughter before he could finish.

"I can and I am. I wasn't supposed to have any meeting today anyway, you iterally sprung this on me this morning. We can reschedule this for sometime next week. I'll have Kelsey give you a call to set something up."

"I'm the boss. You set up meetings with me not the other way around." Her dad yelled.

"Have a good weekend John." Lainey said walking out of the meeting.

"It's dad to you." John fired back.

Lainey whipped around "NOT anymore!" she scolded.

"Well that went better than I expected." Peyton said through the phone.

Lainey jumped a little scared from the voice coming from her phone. "Holy fuck! I forgot you were still on the other end."

Peyton chuckled. "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you. Are you on your way home?"

"I am now thanks to you. Are you?"

"Yeah, I'm like 7 minutes or so from the house."

"Ok, I'll see you when I get there."

"Ok" Peyton said.

Peyton was in the kitchen when Lainey got home.

"Peyton?" Lainey yelled as she walked in the door.

"Kitchen!"

Lainey walked into the kitchen and found Peyton eating lunch. "Have you eaten?" Peyton asked.

"No, but it's fine I'm not really hungry. I'm going to change." Lainey said turning to walk upstairs.

"Wait!" Peyton yelled still wanting to talk to Lainey.

Lainey turned and raised her eyebrows indicating that Peyton had her attention. "Hoooowww was work?" Peyton asked drawing out the first word.

"Fine. Spent most of it in a meeting with my father." Lainey said rolling her eyes over the last word.

"Aren't you going to ask me about mine?"

"Nope" Lainey said popping the p.

"Lainey, I thought we were getting somewhere."

"We are, but you're cute when you're mad so..." Lainey trailed off as she reached the top of the stairs.

Did she just call me cute? Peyton thought to herself.

Lainey changed into a full Adidas fit which consisted of black track pants with gold stripes; a black sports bra underneath her black, white and gold shirt; and white athletic shoes with gold stripes. She then spent the next hour in her room listening to music and texting her best-friends in their group chat.

Eli- We're still on for this weekend right?

Mack- Which charity is it we're working with this weekend again?

Eli- Kaboom. The one that builds playgrounds and stuff.

Lainey- I'm down but my parents set up an interview for a morning talk show so I'll be a little late.

Eli- Ok, we'll just meet you there then. Which show is it this time?

Lainey- Morning Dew with Drew

Mack- That's my favorite one!

Eli- Mine too!

Lainey- You guys don't even like talk shows?!

Mack- Ok but like Drew is hot so I could watch his show all day!

Eli- Fr. That man could bend me over backwards and fuck me upside down.

Lainey- ELI!

Eli- What I'm just saying...

Mack- I...

Mack- I'm speechless and no longer in the mood for the other half of my sandwich I'm eating.

Eli- What time do you think you'll be done?

Lainey- The show starts at 7:00 and I'm the first guest so I should be done by like 7:15 I'm guessing. But I'll have to change and stuff after my interview so I probably won't get to the site till sometime after 8:00

Mack- Are you bringing Peyton?

Lainey- No, why?

Mack- Maybe you should.

Eli- Why? Don't you think Lain might want a break?

Mack- I was just thinking of the kids. The more help the quicker the project gets done.

Mack- Also I was thinking that it might be nice to show her a side of Lain that only we get to see

Lainey- I'm not bringing her.

Lainey- I want to keep some things for just us.

Eli- Yeah how's Lainey supposed to spill the tea if Peyton's there?

Lainey- Who said I had tea?

Eli- You can't tell me you've lived with her for almost a week and have nothing you want to get off your chest.

Mack- I still think you should bring her.

Lainey- No promises either way, but I have to go Peyton and I are taking Megan out for ice cream.

Mack- Awwweeeeee that's such a cute date idea. And she's already meeting the family.

Lainey- It's not a date. I promised Megan over facetime that I'd take her for ice cream and she asked Peyton to come with us.

Eli- Wait a minute... 🤔

Eli- I know that you only answer facetime calls in your room...

Eli- So for Megan to ask Peyton...

Mack- That means that she was in the same room...

Mack- Your room... 🤔

Eli- YA'LL WERE TOTALLY FUCKING IN YOUR ROOM WHEN MEGAN CALLED! 😱😱

Lainey- 🙄 No ❤

Lainey- Yes, Peyton was in my room.

Lainey- Yes, I answered Megan's facetime in my room.

Lainey- No, we didn't fuck. We were talking and getting to know each other since we have to live together.

Eli- I can't believe you fucked the enemy

Eli- Was she at least good?

Eli- Was it a one night thing or are ya'll over there breeding like rabbits?

Eli- Do you do all the work or is it 50/50

Mack- Eli quit jumping to conclusions. If Lainey said they didn't do anything then they didn't do anything. Quit reaching for something that's not there.

Peyton walked up to Lainey's doorway expecting the door to be shut, but to her surprise it wasn't. She was also surprised at the sight she saw when she looked into the girl's room. Lainey was sitting on her bed smiling at her phone and she looked to be texting someone, but the kicker was that she was shirtless. Lainey was sitting on her bed in a black sports bra. Peyton couldn't help but let her gaze get stuck on Lainey's abs once again. She then lifted her gaze to Lainey's very prominent collar bones and toned arms. "Lainey" Peyton said clearing her throat.

Lainey looked up to see Peyton had also changed out of her work clothes. Peyton was standing there in a pair of snug grey Nike sweatpants, loose fitting blue Nike crop top, and a pair of black and white Nike air max's. Lainey's gaze accidentally getting stuck on Peyton's toned stomach "Yes?"

"It's almost 3:00 are you ready?"

"Oh, yeah sorry didn't realize what time it was. Just let me grab a hoodie and we can go." Lainey said getting up and walking over to her white and gold Adidas hoodie. "Let's go" Lainey said as she pulled her hoodie over her head and walked past Peyton.

Lainey drove to Megan's school and they made it with 5 minutes to spare before school was dismissed. When the final bell rang Lainey got out of the car to go and get Megan.

"You can stay in the car, but I have to go get Megan because her teacher won't let her leave unless someone's inside to get her."

"Ok" Peyton said.

Peyton watched as Lainey walked up to the school to get her sister. Peyton laughed when Megan ran up and jumped into Lainey's arms causing her to stumble backwards and almost fall. Both girls were laughing and jugging each other. Peyton had never seen this side of Lainey and she liked it. She had only ever seen the straight forward and business sides of Lainey. She didn't know the girl could have actual feelings. Lainey wasn't even touchy or sappy with her friends, but she seemed to be wrapped around her little sister's pinky.

Lainey and Megan came walking hand in hand up to the car. Lainey opened the back door and buckled Megan in before walking around to her side and getting in.

"Megan" Lainey said looking to the back seat. "This is Peyton. Peyton, this is my little sister Megan."

"Hi, Megan" Peyton said smiling to the little girl.

"Hi." Megan beamed. "Can we go get ice cream now?"

"Yes" Lainey laughed.
