George adjusted his face mask expressionlessly. He could clearly feel every person passing by glancing at him, their eyes filled with a strange mix of curiosity and pity.

George sighed silently and edged away a bit more. He really didn’t want to be the third wheel.

Fortunately, his awkwardness didn’t last long, as the theatre lights dimmed and the movie began.

Kate’s mind wasn’t on the movie; instead, she focused on Eric beside her.

She held his hand, her gaze frequently drifting to his profile.

Even with a face mask on, she could see the sharp lines on his jaw, imagining the handsome face

beneath it.

Eric’s thoughts were similarly distracted, all centred on the delicate, soft hand holding his.

Both of them were experiencing their first movie outing together. Although it was a novel experience for both, they focused more on each other than on the film.

The movie had just started when a sudden scream rang out.

“Urghh!!”

The theatre echoed with piercing screams.

The first scream came from an actress on screen, while the subsequent ones came from the audience, mostly girls.

“Arghhhh!”

Kate saw the girl in front of her clutching her boyfriend’s arm tightly and screamed in terror.

Kate mechanically looked up at the screen, startled by the screams. She saw a horrifyingly pale, twisted face pressed against it.

“Arghhh!”

She screamed, too, and dove into Eric’s arms.

Her heart pounded wildly in her chest.

Oh no!

Why is this a horror movie?!

Huddled in Eric’s arms, Kate shakily pulled out her phone and checked her ticket.

Sure enough, she had only noticed the rave reviews without checking the movie’s genre.

The ticket clearly stated that it was a horror movie.

Kate was on the verge of tears.

Eric frowned at the screams but then heard Kate’s startled cry and felt her dive into his arms.

His body tensed slightly. He looked at the screen and sighed softly in resignation.

His girl had chosen a horror movie.

No wonder the theatre was full of couples, and George was so conspicuous being single.

What began as a romantic movie date quickly devolved into a terrifying experience for Kate. She constantly dove into Eric’s arms and tried to avoid his injured side, all the while insisting she was fine and they should continue watching.

Eric, on the other hand, felt nothing towards the horror movie. To him, the suspenseful plot was trivial and not scary at all.

He merely found the actors‘ special–effect makeup unappealing.

And he was dissatisfied that these ugly scenes were scaring Kate.

Thus, for the entire two–and–a–half–hour movie, Kate remained huddled in Eric’s arms. She trembled at the sound effects and gripped him tightly, her hands nervously exploring his waist.

Eric looked down at her with helpless affection, not interrupting her actions.

Meanwhile, George, who was seated on the side…

He had distanced himself a bit and watched the movie with a deadpan expression. George felt he had enough of those two flaunting their affection in public when they left the cinema.
