Chapter 59

Jayleen reached for the old phone that she had left under her pillow. When she saw the number that
had not contacted her for almost a month, her heart started pounding, and her lips turned pale.
Jaylen wanted to hang up the call, but she still answered the call tremblingly when she thought of the
consequences.
With a shaky voice, she greeted, âHelloâ¦â
âWhy did it take you so long to answer the phone?â The voice on the other end was soft, but it terrified
her.
Jayleen shuddered and stammered, âI was in the bathroom and didnât hear it.â
âHowâs the situation progressing?â
âThey still have thirteen days of the coolingâoff period left. After that, theyâll get the divorce certificate.â
âAre you sure Joshua will marry you after the divorce?â The manâs voice was calm and pleasant, but
his tone was intimidating.
âIâm sure.â Jayleen gulped, her forehead covered in sweat. âHe has already told his family about this.
Once he gets the divorce certificate, he will marry me.â
âOkay.â The man did not seem interested in chatting further. âAfter you marry him, remember to follow
the plan. You know the consequences if you dare to have crooked ideas behind my back.â
Jayleenâs heart skipped a beat, and she felt a chill running down her spine.
Just before hanging up, she thought of something and said nervously, âWait!â
There was silence on the other end.
Jayleenâs hand holding the phone was covered in a cold sweat.
âDid you have me get into the car accident and ruin my innocence?â
She bit her lip, feeling extremely anxious.
The man neither confirmed nor denied it, only saying, âI prefer to do things myself.â
Jayleen was dumbfounded, feeling so weak that she was losing grip on the phone.
After the other person hung up the phone, Jayleenâs phone slipped from her hand, and all her strength
seemed to drain away. She slumped on the sofa, wondering who could have done it if it was not him or
Cynthia.
She sat on the sofa for half an hour before she recovered. Then, she picked up her phone and deleted
the call log.
After deleting the call log, Jayleen sat there in a daze with only one thought in her mind: she couldnât let
Joshua find out.
No way!
Meanwhile, Jayleen was not on Joshuaâs mind at all. After taking her call and hearing her news, he set
aside his work and went to find Cynthia.
Yoel came in with a few documents and his signature smile. âMr. Neal, these documents require your
signatureâ¦â
âPut them on the table.â
âBut theyâre urgent.â
Joshua paused in his tracks. His gaze turned icy, and his thin lips parted with a hint of displeasure. âIf
theyâre urgent, why didnât you bring them earlier? Why wait until now?â
Yoel just stood there, stunned.
He was only a messenger.
âMake them wait so they wonât repeat it again,â Joshua said before leaving.
Not long after Joshua left, someone hiding in the shadows approached Yoel and asked about the
situation.
âYoel, what did Mr. Neal say to you just now? He seemed upset.â
Yoel glanced at them and repeated everything Joshua had said, word for word.
The group was baffled.
