Chapter 30 I Am a Small Animal Too

Mu Zhi waited for Lu Jinye to finish signing before reaching for the resignation letter.

She sent him a bright smile, turned and headed back out. Lu Jinye watched her leave with a frown on

his face… Was she not going to say anything after catching him with another woman?

Party pooper.

By the time Xiao Qingqing walked towards Lu Jinye again, he had already started to pack up the files

on the table and was organizing them. He stood up calmly.

Xiao Qingqing looked at Lu Jinye without saying anything.

When Lu Jinye had finished cleaning up and was ready to leave, Xiao Qingqing finally opened her

mouth to invite him over to hers.

Before she had managed to get the words out, Lu Jinye beat her to it. “Tonight, I’ll be going back to my

villa. I have to follow up with some stuff.”

He needed to have a good long chat with Mu Zhi regarding where she was planning to go after

resigning.

“Kay…”

Xiao Qingqing was far from happy with this new development, but she could only bite her lip and agree.

She stood up and hugged Lu Jinye from behind.

“Jinye, did you know that I have been waiting for you to divorce?”

She hugged him. Prior to this, she had been fully confident that Lu Jinye was hers and only hers.

But now….

She wasn’t so sure.

She needed to hear his assurance.

“Okay.”

Lu Jinye answered indifferently.

Xiao Qingqing reminded him, “Don’t make me wait too long.”

Lu Jinye took a while before turning to look at Xiao Qingqing. Her face was wet with tears… He did not

respond but reached for a tissue and wiped her face with it.

After Mu Zhi left Lu Jinye’s office, she held the letter tightly in her hands and practically ran out of the

building.

Seeing as to how Xiao Qingqing and Lu Jinye were so intimate not too long ago, then… Lu Jinye would

probably be sleeping at hers tonight.

Which was why Mu Zhi hurried back home to visit Mu Xiaomu.

She caught a cab and rushed over to Jian Xiaoning’s house. When Mu Xiaomu saw Mu Zhi, she was

delighted. She ran over and hugged Mu Zhi tightly and gave her a big smooch.

After that, she gently asked, “Mommy, I was just practicing a dance for Children’s Day. Can I show

you?”

“Sure.”

Mu Zhi was so happy. She quickly sat on the couch and moved the coffee table away to make room for

Mu Xiaomu. Mu Xiaomu was wearing a simple white dress. Not the costume they were supposed to

wear for the little swans. But her expressions were so on point that when they reached the climax for

the song, Mu Zhi could have sworn that Mu Xiaomu was indeed a beautiful white swan.

Mu Zhi was so moved by her performance that she applauded when Mu Xiaomu finished. Mu Xiaomu

ran up to Mu Zhi and hugged her tight.

She was both shy and seeking compliment when she asked, “Mommy, I’m the lead dancer for this. Do

you think I can do well?”

“Of course! My Xiaomu is a genius at dancing!”

“Then mommy… Did I convince you that I was a swan?”

“I’m convinced! Totally convinced!”

Mu Zhi happily praised her as she cupped Mu Xiaomu’s little face.

Mu Xiaomu’s eyes opened wide in happiness. She spun around before returning to Mu Zhi’s waiting

embrace.

“Mommy, then can you bring me to daddy’s forest to look for him? I convinced you that I am a swan.

Surely daddy will take care of me! I am a small animal too!”

Mu Zhi was stunned.

What kind of logic was this…?

She blinked slowly and looked at Mu Xiaomu. Her tiny face all serious. “Little swans don’t live in the

forest.”

Mu Zhi could not think of anything else to turn her down.

But with this one sentence, Mu Xiaomu’s upper lip curled and she started to bawl.

“Madam, mommy says that swans are not little animals! I can’t go see daddy! Daddy doesn’t look after

swans in the forest!”

The babysitter immediately ran up and tried to soothe Mu Xiaomu. Mu Zhi was at a loss. Her gaze

bounced between the babysitter and Mu Xiaomu.

“It’s okay… Don’t cry now… How about this, mommy will take loads of pictures on the day and send to

daddy.”

“Daddy will see how pretty you are and if he has anything to tell you, he’ll let mommy know and

mommy will come tell you.”

“Really?”

Mu Xiaomu wiped away her tears and stopped crying. Her big innocent eyes stared up at Mu Zhi.

Mu Zhi nodded hastily, “Yes. Yes! It’s true!”

“Pinky promise… You can’t lie to me.”

“Of course!”

Mu Zhi hurriedly hooked her pinky with Mu Xiaomu’s and quickly carried her off to bed.

Mu Xiaomu must have tired herself out by crying so much that she immediately drifted off.

When Mu Zhi was certain that Mu Xiaomu was asleep, she snuck out and quietly closed the door.

When she came out, she realized that the babysitter had not left and was waiting for her.

“What’s wrong? Was there something else? Tonight, I’ll look after Xiaomu.”

The babysitter was at a loss for words, but she looked at Mu Zhi and after hesitating, she said, “Miss

Mu, I’ve been caring for Mu Xiaomu for a while now. I see her as my grandchild.”

Mu Zhi nodded in agreement.

“I… I know I should pry but… I have to say something. Xiaomu needs to have a father figure. She longs

for a father.”

“This dance… Xiaomu tried many a times but failed. You see, she is not particularly talented

athletically. The teacher had actually rejected her from participating in the dance. But every day after

she came home from kindergarten, she would spend hours practicing. She fell and hurt herself so

many times before they finally accepted her as lead dancer. Xiaomu said that this dance was for daddy

who was the king of the forest. She wanted to perform this for daddy in the forest.”

“I’ve said what I needed to. I’ll take my leave.”

The babysitter finished what she had to say, picked up her bad and left. She did not need a respond

from Mu Zhi.

But… As soon as the door closed, Mu Zhi bit her lip and started to cry.

Mu Xiaomu had done so much… And she had broken her heart so easily.

But where was she to find a father for Mu Xiaomu?

She was so disappointed with herself. She felt that she owed Mu Xiaomu something…

Mu Zhi always felt indebted to Mu Xiaomu. Even though she had sacrificed so much for her upbringing

but because she had to play Lu Jinye’s wife, she had to keep Mu Xiaomu’s existence a secret. She had

no doubt neglected Mu Xiaomu.

Mu Zhi did not sleep that night. The next day, after making breakfast for Mu Xiaomu and sending her to

school. She made a difficult decision.

She decided… To bring forward her divorce with Lu Jinye!
