Chapter 829 - Who’s Being Heartless

Lin Yunan was about to say something more when assistant Wei Wei rushed in. “Sister Xiao Ling, this is bad! Ye Xingfei is right outside the building now, and she brought reporters along with her and says she wants to talk it out with you!”

Xia Ling was still processing what Wei Wei had just said, but Lin Yunan had already dashed out of the room.

She chased up and saw that there was indeed a crowd outside—over 10 reporters were huddled around a young girl, with their cameras up and filming. “Miss Ye Xingfei, what are your thoughts of Miss Ye Xingling leaving the Ye family? You mentioned that she’s heartless and unfilial, is this true?”

At the entrance, several bodyguards and security officers were holding out a cordon to contain the situation.

Ye Xingfei was wearing a pink dress and standing before a cluster of reporters. This was her first time having so many cameras pointed at her, and it was evident that she was slightly distressed about it. Even so, she managed to stammer. “Sister is unfilial! How could she suddenly decide to be adopted by another family? Does she know how devastated Dad has been these few days?!”

A series of flashes shone.

Someone shouted, “Ye Xingling is out!”

Everyone turned around and saw Xia Ling standing at the entrance. She was dressed in an exquisite gown but showed no expression. All of a sudden, every camera was pointed at her instead—the reporters had given up Ye Xingfei for her instantly.

When Ye Xingfei turned around and first saw her sister, she looked a little frightened, almost as if she was a bad girl who’d just been caught gossiping behind someone’s back. A few seconds later, however, she straightened her back and loudly questioned, “Sister, why did you abandon us? Why did you abandon our family? You’re already rich and famous, did you really have to give up this kinship for the sake of riches?!” She was genuinely shocked and upset by this, and could not understand why her sister would do this. When she woke up, she thought that she and sister would continue to share a close bond, but it turned out that her sister did not want her anymore.

Tears began rolling down her face. “You’re heartless!”

Xia Ling did not have a good temper, to begin with. It took her a lot of self-control to keep her emotions in check as she was being falsely accused. She coldly looked at this supposed sister of hers and said, “Feifei, are you done talking? Don’t spout nonsense if you don’t know what’s going on. I’ll get someone to send you home.”

“No!” Ye Xingfei glared at her and yelled, “Yes, I don’t know what’s going on, but I know what shame is! I know who raised me! You’re too cold-blooded. Have you forgotten the parents who raised you?!”

The reporters never stopped capturing this scene. The Diva was fighting with her sister, what sensational news this was.

Xia Ling knew that if this went on, the reports could turn out very ugly. She was about to get someone to take Ye Xingfei away when a majestic-looking modified SUV stopped by the road. A man came out of the car and approached them.

Everyone’s focus shifted when he appeared.

The cameras changed their target again and began snapping him instead.

“It’s Li Lei! Big Boss Li is here!” The reporters were getting agitated. However, seeing his somber expression, they subconsciously quietened down.

Li Lei stood before Ye Xingfei and asked in a serious tone, “Did your parents not teach you about manners, and how you shouldn’t create a commotion on the streets?” When he didn’t smile, he looked intimidating and threatening. Ye Xingfei took a step back in fear.

“W-Who are you?” She stuttered.

“I’m your brother-in-law,” said Li Lei. “I heard you saying that your sister’s unfilial? Let me tell you, even if everyone said it, you and your Ye family have no rights to say this! Did you know how she looked like when she was first selected to attend Skyart’s training camp? She was covered in bruises—God knows who did this to her—and was always wearing old clothes. I have the photos from the training camp, do you want me to take them out for everyone to have a look?

“When you met with the car accident, she knelt before Tan Ying in public just so she could raise money to save you, did you know about this? She paid up millions of yuan for you! Not to mention the hospitalization fees, the money it took to nurse you back to health—she settled each and every aspect on her own! Your so-called parents didn’t give a single cent nor do a thing for you!

“And what about her? Back when she was in the training camp, she did not receive an allowance from the family and had no other source of income. She ended up having to work as a cleaner in the canteen, causing her fingers to swell in the stinging winter cold. After she was done with her cleaning, she had to go back to dance practice, and when her blisters broke, leaving blood all over the dance floor, the teachers scolded her and her classmates despised her. When all that happened, where was the Ye family?!”

Ye Xingfei was stunned and could not utter a word.

Everyone there was shocked as well. All they had known about the Diva Ye Xingling was through the information that had been released after moderation. It was said that she had been extremely hardworking and conscientious, but nobody ever talked about how pitiful her life was before she became famous.

Li Lei continued, “Xiao Ling is a proud person, and has never, ever mentioned a word about this after she made her debut. Even when she was being interviewed on screen, she had only ever talked about the good of her family. She took on all this suffering alone, and for what? For you to say that she’s heartless!

“Who’s being heartless here?!

“When you regained consciousness in the hospital the other day, she was so happy for you. She put down all her work and postponed everything at once to go down to the hospital to see you. But what about you? How are you treating her now? You know full well that she’s a celebrity, a public figure, and you still gathered a bunch of reporters to spread bad word about her. She has really loved you for nothing!”

Li Lei was so harsh with his tone that Ye Xingfei had backed down and was now sitting on the ground in utter shock.

Xia Ling was shocked as well. She didn’t expect him to remember all of these things that had happened so long ago, that even she had long filed it at the back of her mind. Although a lot of the earlier suffering had been borne by the actual Ye Xingling, Xia Ling herself did, in fact, do a lot for this so-called sister. For instance, she had stayed in the entertainment industry in order to pay for her debt and was even abducted by Pei Ziheng a few times.

If it weren’t for the car accident and the debt, everything could have been different.

She looked at Li Lei and quietly said, “It isn’t worth getting angry over.”

Li Lei looked at her and his expression softened immediately as he walked towards her.

The crowd naturally parted in the middle to make way for him to get to her. Li Lei walked up the steps and held Xia Ling’s hand, whispering, “Let’s go in.” He brought her back into the building.

Everyone seemed to have just woken from a dream as they finally saw the light.

The cameras began flashing again, and this time, the reporters were busy capturing the couple’s back view, holding each other in support.
