Netflix and Chill?
Dealer's Girl
Lexa POV:
Entering Madi's apartment and it's exactly as I imagined it. Light yellow walls. Sunflower plants. Bright colors.
"Your room really represents your personality." I looked around.
"Thank you." She smiled, putting her backpack on the ground beside a small table. "Uh, do you want a drink?"
"I'm good." I sat on her couch.
She sat beside me. "So...can I ask a question?"
"Sure." I nodded, looking over at her.
"Do you have any friends?" She asked and I smiled at the bluntness. "Wait, that came out wrong. I meant-"
"I know what you mean. Yes, I've got friends." I nodded. "Why do you ask?"
"Well Jack said something earlier and...it doesn't matter." She began but quickly shook her head.
"Well now I have to know." I smirked, scooting closer to her.
"When I told him about you helping me home on Friday he was like...really confused that you helped me. He said you...aren't really nice to people..." Madi chose her words carefully.
"Correction. I'm not nice to him." I corrected.
"Why?" She asked.
"He's what I call a player. And not just because he plays football." I began. "I've seen him bring tons of girls to parties. If he brought that many girls to my house I would kill him. I just hope you don't fall into his trap." I explained.
"I...I don't like him like that. Again I barely know him." She played with her fingers.
My eyes traveled down her face. "Hey." I said and she looked up. "Wanna watch Netflix?"
"Oh, like Netflix and Chill?" She asked. I'm 100% certain she has no idea what that means.
"You wanna Netflix and Chill?" I asked, amused.
"Why are you smiling?" She asked, confused. Again, innocent little thing.
"Do you know what that means?" I asked.
"Yeah, we watch Netflix...and chill." She repeated.
"That's not what it means." I moved a piece of hair that fell in front of her face to behind her ear. She froze for a second before I removed my hair, realizing what I was doing. "You basically just asked me to have sex with you."
"What!" Her eyes went wide as her cheeks grew red.
"While you process that and pick something to watch, I'm going to use your bathroom, which is...?" I asked, standing up.
Madi's eyes were still wide as she lifted her hand and pointed to a door.
I gave her a small smile before walking to the bathroom. I locked the door behind me before placing my hands on the sink.
What am I doing?
I ran my fingers through my hair.
Madi is off limits.
For that dick-wad Jack.
The minute she finds out who I am she's gonna hate me. I just gotta tell her and get it over with.
I took a deep breath before opening the door and walking to the couch. "Madi, I have to tell you something."
"What is it?" She smiled, looking up at me.
"I...I have this meeting I have to get to. Can I reschedule our...Netflix and Chill?" I joked.
Madi's smile faltered but then she nodded. "Sure. Are you sure I didn't make things weird?" She stood.
"No, you're all good. I'll text you later?" I asked and she nodded. Before I could turn around to leave she hugged me.
"Bye, Lexa. Safe walk, tell me when you get home." She said, I hugged her back.
"I'll tell you." I told her before walking out her front door. "I'll tell you one day..." I muttered before leaving her apartment building.
As I walked home I walked to the fourth floor and saw someone standing outside my door.
"Hello?" I questioned.
"Lexa!" The man turned around and it was Jack.
"What the hell were you waiting for me?" I asked.
"We need to talk." He said as I walked around him and opened my door.
"No, we don't." I walked inside and he followed. "Get out."
"What are you doing to Madi?" He asked.
"Nothing." I sat on the couch.
"Why does she think you're suddenly the nicest person on the planet?" He continued.
"Women stick together." I replied.
"That's not true, I've seen you fight plenty of women." He kept talking.
"You're gonna see me fight another if you don't get out." I stood, he was getting on my nerves.
"Are you calling me a woman?" He asked, looks like he was getting pissed off but he should know, I'm much worse.
"I'm not calling you a man. Out!" I pointed to the door.
"I'm gonna say this once. Stay away from Madi." He told me. "She's not like you. She doesn't do drugs, and gangs, and violence. You're a bad influence on her. She's not the girl you want her to be." Jack told me before leaving the room.
I locked the door behind him and took a deep breath.
You're a bad influence on her.
I remember that sentence.
6 years ago:
Madi and I snuck out last night. Just two 12 year old's going to the movies to see a R-rated movie. At breakfast the next morning I sat at the table with all the other kids in the foster home. We were all chatting about what we were gonna do today.
"Lexi, can I talk to you for a minute?" Mary Ann said and I nodded and walked into her home-office.
"Yeah?" I questioned.
"Where did you and Madi go last night at...11pm?" Mary Ann asked.
"...just to the movies." I shrugged.
"Lexi." Mary Ann shook her head. "You can't be doing that. Not to mention it's wrong, but...Madi isn't like you."
"What does that mean?" I asked.
"You and her are polar opposites. You like action movies, and dark clothes, and monsters, but Madi...she likes romance, flowers, sunny days. One day Madi's gonna leave us and she's gonna find an amazing husband and have so many kids." Mary Ann said.
"And me?" I asked.
"You can decide right now how you want your life to go. Sneaking out is not the right way. You're being a bad influence on her." She scolded me. I won't lie, it hurt. Madi is my best friend and I would never do anything to jeopardize her life.
"She's gonna get a family one day, I'm not. I've already given up on that. Madi won't give up, but maybe you should just tell her now that kids over a certain age are less likely to be adopted." Kids friends with me are less likely to get adopted. Maybe Mary Ann was right."...I know how to choose the right path."
"And how's that?" Mary Ann asked.
"I need to leave." I sighed.
My phone buzzing brought me back to reality.
Madi: Are you safe?
Lexa: yes, made it home ok
Madi: Sorry if I made things weird earlier. I feel stupid.
Lexa: ur not stupid don't say that and things are not weird
Madi: Promise?
Lexa: yes
Madi: Okay, so can we still have our Netflix minus Chill?
I smiled down at my phone. She's too cute.
