Chapter 368
Master of his heart (Brielle and Max)
Online opinions were a mixed bag, with some rallying behind Brielle, but the majority were against her.
âWhat a pretender! The true colors of these capitalists are just hideous.â
âIs a human life so worthless in her eyes?â
âSheâs just so smug. So what if she was the valedictorian? People change.â
The live stream continued unabated. Brielle stood beside the police, responding to questions with a mix of humility and pride. Especially noteworthy was Brielleâs composure amidst the cacophony of sobs.
Coupled with her striking presence, the number of viewers on the live stream skyrocketed.
Unaware of the live broadcast, Brielle finished recounting the afternoonâs events and followed behind the officers.
Simon wasnât about to let her off the hook that easily. He grabbed a chair, intending to hurl it at her.
âGive me back my daughter! Youâre not going anywhere!â
The police sprang into action, blocking Simon with stern resolve. âMr. Simon, the autopsy report for Miss Sarah hasnât been released yet. Ms. Brielle is a suspect, but we need the investigation to conclude before any judgments are made.â
Simon, redâfaced with rage, nearly poked the officer in the face as he spat out his words. âYouâre clearly in cahoots with her. She mustâve bribed you, or maybe Dorsey International did! Get out of my way, all of you! I want her to pay for what sheâs done!â
Brielle frowned, spotting a glimmer of greed in the depths of Simonâs eyes and suspecting he was being manipulated. She ran through the possibilities in her mind but couldnât pinpoint the puppet master.
That was until Spencer walked in.
He looked from the officers to Brielle, perplexed. âWhatâs going on here?â
An employee quickly filled him in on the whole story. Spencer sneered inwardly, seeing this as Brielleâs comeuppance, his gaze settling on her. âI never thought youâd do something like this.â
His words brought an eerie silence to the room, and even the live stream viewership spiked as they speculated about Spencerâs role.
When Simon saw Spencer, a glint of cunning flashed in his eyes. He pushed through the crowd and fell to his knees before him. âMr. Spencer, you must seek justice for my daughter. How can someone like Brielle remain at the company? She must be locked up and face the law. Surely. Dorsey International wonât shield someone like her, right?â
Spencer looked up, his eyes brimming with resentment as he let out a cold laugh. âIndeed, a murderer should be behind bars.â
11:01 With Spencer joining the fray, those condemning Brielle grew in numbers. Whispers spread among the onlookers. Spencerâs pursuit of Brielle was wellâknown, but now, in such a short span, he seemed to have turned against her entirely.
Brielle watched Spencerâs act with quiet scrutiny, unsettling him with her gaze, as if to suggest sheâd never esteemed him, and that sheâd aimed for Max from the start, climbing into his bed.
He felt like a stepping stone, used and discarded by this vile woman! Internally, he cursed her a thousand times over, his eyes bloodshot. âBrielle, have you nothing to say?â
In Spencerâs mind, Brielle was cornered, with no one to turn to but him. If she asked for help, he wasnât entirely unwilling. He might forgive her indiscretions if she would stay by his side and be a plaything for his whims.
Fate seemed to favor himâBrielle had become embroiled in a murder at such a crucial time.
Brielle lifted her head, cutting through Spencerâs sordid thoughts. âHas the police determined Iâm a murderer?â
She directed her question at the officers. The officer shook his head, naturally taking over the conversation. âMs. Brielle, please come with us to give your statement.â
Brielle then turned to Spencer, a faint smile on her lips. âEven if you slander me and turn everyone against me, I will never yield to your advances. I donât want a man who cheats so freely. It seems the executive decision to have me take over your position was the right one. A directorâs role is no place for someone swayed by hearsay, who was unable to separate personal from professional.â
Her words caused a stir. The live stream chat exploded.
âWhatâs going on? This guyâs name is Spencer, Brielleâs exâfiancé, and she took over his position.â
âThis Spencer guy cheated, and now heâs harassing his exâfiancé, using this incident to isolate her, and forcing her to ask for his help. How devious!â
âBrielle got her position by sleeping her way to the top? Disgusting!â
âDorsey International is a Dorsey family business. As Spencerâs ex, Brielle even took over his role, which means she must have outmaneuvered the Dorsey familyâs own to get there. How does that translate to sleeping her way to the top?â
