Chapter 19

Sam

It's been two days since the barbecue. Everybody has been on high alert. More patrols and trackers are guarding the whole perimeter of the pack. Xander has been busy this past couple of days, trying to make sure that the pack and the pack members are safe.

I'm in his office, feeling bored while waiting for Xander to finish doing his paperwork since he promised me that we will go out today.

"Are you still working?" I asked Xander, making him look up from the papers. He gave me a tired smile and nodded.

"I'll be finished in a couple of hours or so. Sorry to keep you waiting, love, but I have to get this done by tonight," Xander explained, gesturing to the stack of papers on his desk.

I nodded and leaned my head back on the recliner. I was watching Xander while he was doing his work. The concentrated look on his face, his handwriting furiously on the paper, the glasses he was wearing that kept sliding off the bridge of his nose, his strong jawline, and full lips. Everything about him is amazing. He has been extremely kind to me. He's a great mate and Alpha, I can see why his pack loves him a lot.

My train of thought was cut off when the phone in his office rang, making Xander look up from his paperwork, a frustrated look on his face. Xander dropped the pen he was holding and picked up the phone.

"Alpha Xander speaking," his strong and commanding boomed in the office.

"You want to ask permission to enter my pack. And why is that?" Xander asked the person on the other side of the phone, confusion clear on his face.

"You want to find a 'pack member' that ran away from your pack a week ago, huh? Alright. When are you getting here?" Xander asked the person on the line, a hard edge in his voice and his eyes glowing a bright yellow, letting me know that his wolf was nearing the surface. I rose from the recliner and went to his side. I put my hand on his back and rubbed, trying to calm him down. It seemed to work a little, but his eyes are still glowing brightly.

"I'll see you later then, Rick," Xander said before hanging up the phone. I froze. Rick? As in Alpha Rick? My old Alpha is coming to this pack and Xander doesn't even know it. I have to tell him now. I can't let him see me, it will only cause trouble. I started hyperventilating making Xander's attention snap towards me. His glowing eyes returned to his normal eye color, concern and worry showing in his eyes.

"Sam! Are you okay? Talk to me!" Xander said in a worried tone before pulling me to his chest in an attempt to calm me down. I felt myself start to relax slightly, but the thought of my old Alpha coming here was enough to make my eyes start to water.

"Xander," I whispered, my voice shaking from the fear that is coursing inside of me. I don't want to see any members of my old pack again.

"Please don't let Alpha Rick into your territory. I'm begging you. Please don't let him in." I begged, my voice sounding shaky and desperate, but I didn't care.

"Why is that?" Xander asked, his eyes starting glow making me whimper. His eyes returned to his normal eye color before he sent me an apologetic glance.

"Alpha Rick, he-he's the . . . Alpha of my old pack," I said, feeling my knees start to wobble. I leaned against Xander in an attempt to hold myself up.

I felt him tense, his whole body starting to shake, growls coming out of his throat, and his claws starting to grow. I clung to him tighter, feeling afraid to let go.

"I know. I had a suspicion when he said that he was looking for a 'pack member' who ran away from his pack the same day you trespassed my territory," He said, his voice coming out as short pants in an attempt to stop his wolf from taking over completely.

A knock on the door made me snap my head towards the door where Liam is standing.

"Alpha, Alpha Rick is here," Liam said, looking confused and worried when he saw the state we were in.

"Gather fifty men from our guards. I want them all in front of the pack house in three minutes. You and Blake will accompany me and Sam." Xander ordered.

"Alpha, is everything alright?" Liam asked looking worried.

"Rick is the Alpha of the fifth most powerful pack in the world. He along with his pack abused your Luna and my mate for ten years." Xander growled out, his whole body shaking, trying to contain his rage. Liam's eyes widened before nodding and running out of the house.

Xander and I made our way out of the house and walked to the direction of the pack house. He was walking a lot faster than me, so I had to run to catch up with him. We reached the pack house in two minutes. We stood in front of the pack house and waited for my old pack to arrive. I couldn't hear any heartbeats in the pack house, so I'm guessing that Xander ordered them to leave.

I saw a big jeep heading our way from the distance, making my heart jump out of my chest. I hid behind Xander, feeling afraid, anxious, and nervous to face my old Alpha again. The jeep stopped fifty feet away from the pack house before the doors opened to reveal Alpha Rick. But what I didn't expect was for both of my brothers to be with him. They sniffed the air before their head snapped in me and Xander's direction.

Fifty men suddenly started pouring out of the trees and stood behind Xander, Liam and Blake leading them before standing behind of Xander.

"Xander," Alpha Rick greeted in a deep voice. Xander said nothing back and only stared at him. I moved closer to Xander, making me regret ever moving at all because it only snapped their attention towards me, making me squeak.

"You found my missing pack member. I will be in your debt. You see, she's rather important to our pack, especially to these two," Alpha Rick said sounding surprised while pointing at my brothers who were glaring at me.

"You will not be in my debt because you're not taking her," Xander said in a deep voice, sounding more like his wolf than Xander.

Alpha Rick looked surprised for a second before he regained his composure.

"I will be taking her and that's final. I will take the burden out of your way, so if you would please hand her over and we will be on our way."Alpha Rick stated, his voice sounding firm.

Xander growled loudly making all the wolves except for Alpha Rick to flinch and show their necks as a sign of submission.

"You will not be taking her and that's final! If you want to live longer, then I suggest you get your filthy paws off my land before I slaughter you and your whole pack." Xander said, his voice holding a promise. Alpha Rick glared at him before speaking again.

"Just hand her over and we will be on our way. It's that simple!" Alpha Rick exclaimed.

"You will not be taking my mate! Get the f*ck out of my territory!" Xander shouted. The wolves behind Xander growled in agreement before I see some of them getting ready to shift. The men that were with Alpha Rick growled before shifting and attacking the nearest wolf. That action caused the wolves to shift and fight each other.

I feel worried about the wolves that are fighting my old pack. I don't want any of them to get hurt. Xander has more wolves than Alpha Rick, and they're more powerful than my old pack, but that doesn't mean I can't be worried for them.

I see the wolves from Xander's pack biting and killing the wolves that were with Alpha Rick. When only ten wolves from Alpha Rick's pack are remaining, that's when he decided to stop them.

"If you let me and my pack members get out of your territory alive, then we will leave peacefully," Alpha Rick said in a calm voice, but I can see his hatred in his eyes.

"I don't need you to leave 'peacefully.' I can declare war on your pack right now if you don't leave Sam alone." Xander said in a 'calm and collected' voice.

"That can't happen. You see, Sam's brothers miss her dearly and want her to be back in the pack, and I always do everything I can to make sure that my pack members are happy. If you want to declare war, then go right ahead. We will fight until either one of us dies," Alpha Rick said venomously.

"Leave now before I change my mind. I will give you an hour to gather all your fallen men and to leave my territory. If you're still here after the hour is up, then I will get my wolves to follow you and kill you and your remaining pack members, so I suggest you leave now before I change my mind and kill you right here." Xander said, his eyes glaring murderously at Alpha Rick.

Alpha Rick nodded before telling the remaining men from his pack to get all the fallen men. I see my brothers glaring at me, and I stared back. I can see pain, hatred, and anger in their eyes. They gave me a dirty look one last time before getting into the jeep and driving away with their fallen men.
