Chapter 39
My Alpha Mate
Chapter 39
Sam
We stopped in front of his parents' house. Xander glanced at me, giving me a smile before knocking on the door. We waited for a few seconds before the door opened to reveal a woman that has the same features as Xander. She smiled as soon as her gaze landed on Xander, and pulled him into a hug.
"It's good to see you, Xander." The woman said, still hugging Xander tightly.
Xander returned the hug and buried his nose in the woman's neck, inhaling her scent. I saw him visibly relax. My wolf growled at the woman mentally, wanting to get our mate away from the woman.
Xander must have felt my wolf because he pulled away from the woman and came over to our side before wrapping an arm around my waist and nuzzling the side of my neck. The woman's gaze fell on me and her smile became brighter.
"Hello! You must be the girl that Xander talks about all the time," the woman said. I felt Xander tense at the mention of him talking about me all the time before burying his face in my hair. I smiled at Xander's action and leaned against him.
"I guess? I didn't know that Xander talks about me all the time, I hope they're all good things," I told her.
"Oh trust me, he sounds like a schoolgirl talking about her crush whenever he mentions you to us," the woman said, chuckling.
A light and playful growl escaped Xander's throat.
"That's enough, Stella," Xander said, his face still buried in my hair.
"Oh! How rude of me. My name is Stella and I'm Xander's younger sister." Stella said. II smiled at her before introducing myself as well, as Xander's mate.
"It must be hard being his mate, isn't it? Having to be possessive with you all the time?" She said playfully.
I shrugged. "It's not that hard once you got used to his possessiveness and being protective all the time," I told her.
The woman, Stella, laughed before stepping inside and gesturing for us to follow her. I stepped away from Xander's hold, but he clung on to me not wanting to let go.
We walked together inside the house. The floor was made out of polished wood with different types of browns, a white fireplace in the middle of the room, a white couch with cushions, a brown coffee table in front of the couch, and a brown armchair on the side. Overall, the house has a homey feeling to it.
"I'll call mom and dad. Make yourself at home, Sam." She said before going up the stairs to find her parents.
I looked around and saw some family pictures of Xander, his parents, and a young picture of Stella. Xander was grinning widely at the camera and he looked carefree, unlike now where he has to worry about wars and the safety of his pack.
I heard footsteps coming down the stairs. I turned and saw a woman who looked exactly like Stella, except for the eyes because their mother has forest green eyes. I looked at the man who was standing beside their mother. He has the same striking features as Xander with their blue eyes, sharp jawline, crooked nose, and that intimidating aura that only an Alpha can possess.
I looked at his eyes and immediately regretted it as he was glaring at me as if I murdered one of his pack members. I flinched and went closer to Xander who was standing right beside me.
The woman, Xander's mom, came forward and engulfed me in a hug. I froze and held my breath for a few seconds before slowly letting myself hug her back. I'm not used to being shown affections, especially by a mother since mine died when I was seven.
"It's nice to finally meet you. My name is Aurora and I am the mother of the family," Aurora smiled at me. I smiled back but it felt strained. I glanced at her husband to see him staring at Xander with an unreadable emotion in his eyes.
"Please excuse my husband, he's always like this when it comes to people he doesn't know or just met," Aurora said, giving me an apologetic look. I nodded timidly before glancing back at Xander who was too busy having a staring contest with his father.
Aurora coughed, breaking the staring contest between the father and son before clapping her hands excitedly and gesturing for me to sit down.
"Where's Lucas?" Xander asked, taking a glance at me before focusing his gaze back at his mom.
"He couldn't make it because of some rogue issues or something like that," Aurora said with a solemn face.
Xander nodded before taking the seat next to me. He held my hand under the table, his thumb rubbing comforting circles on my knuckles.
"Stella, why don't you come with me to get the food?" Aurora said, looking at Stella.
Stella nodded before following her mom to the kitchen, I stood up and offered to help them but Aurora was already shaking her head before I could even get a word out of my mouth.
"Just stay with your mate, Sam." She said before going to the kitchen.
I sat back down and leaned my head on Xander's shoulder. His father was sitting at the head of the table, a newspaper in his hands and ignoring us as if we're not there. I didn't mind because I was used to being ignored all the time back at my old pack, but I don't think Xander liked the way his father was treating us, or should I say me.
"Dad, this is my mate, Sam. Sam this is my father, Arthur." Xander said, gesturing to his father. As soon as he heard his name, his gaze snapped up and met my gaze making me flinch. I lowered my gaze to the table and held Xander's hand tighter.
I can hear a low vibrating sound coming from Xander's chest making me panic a little. I hope Aurora and Stella get here soon. I will not be able to hold back one Alpha and one former Alpha if a fight broke out.
"Dinner's ready!" Aurora's voice rang out from the kitchen. She appeared with a plate of delicious food in her hands as she made her way to the dining table, Stella following after her mother with more food.
I looked at the different types of food on the table. There were lasagna, chicken parmesan, mashed potatoes, and more.
"I hope you guys are hungry, me and Stella cooked a lot just for you guys," Aurora said, beaming at us. I looked at her gratefully and waited for them to take a seat before we started filling our plates with food.
"So, how did you guys meet?" Stella asked while stuffing her mouth with food. Aurora gave her a warning look, but she didn't seem to notice.
I felt Xander stiffen beside me. I glanced at him and saw him glaring at Stella, he was holding his fork tightly in his hand and he looked like he wanted to punch someone.
"Yes, why don't you tell us how you met my son, Sam." I heard Arthur's voice say from the head of the table. I could feel my cheeks heating up from all the attention I was getting, and I felt uncomfortable. I could feel Xander's father burning holes on the side of my face, but I didn't dare look at him. That would be dangerous, and he would take that as a challenge.
"Um . . ." I trailed off, feeling speechless. The memories of why I ran away from my pack came rushing back to me, making me feel nauseated.
"Please excuse me, I need to use the restroom," Stella announces before getting up from her chair and walking upstairs.
The table was filled with silence and so much tension that you could cut it with a knife. I cleared my throat and tried again, but no words came out.
"What's wrong? Cat got your tongue?" Arthur sneered. I looked down and tried to get my hand out of Xander's hand but he wouldn't let go.
I heard a loud growl beside me before Xander stood up and glared at his father murderously.
"What the fuck is your problem?" Xander growled out, his claws starting to come out as he looked at his father who didn't even flinch.
"Xander, calm down and have a seat," Aurora said in a soothing voice, trying to calm the agitated Alpha beside me. She looked at me pleadingly and I nodded in understanding.
I placed my hands on Xander's chest and tried to get him to calm down. He felt my touch and he looked at me, but he was still shaking with rage. I put my hand on his cheek, feeling the sparks and the warm feeling of security that traveled through me as soon as I touched my mate.
Xander seems to have felt it too because he started calming down as soon as I put my hand on his cheek.
"Xander, please calm down," I whispered. He looked at me before wrapping me in his tight embrace and burying his nose in the crook of my neck to calm himself. I hugged him back and rubbed his back in a soothing manner.
"Now that we're all feeling a little civilized once again, why don't we return to our dinner and eat like normal people?" Aurora suggested, but I could hear the authority and the warning in her voice.
I grabbed Xander's hand once more and willed him to sit down. Everyone was silent throughout the dinner. It's been twenty minutes and Stella hasn't returned.
"Sam, do you mind checking the bathroom for Stella, please?" Aurora asked, glancing at Xander and Arthur. I nodded, understanding the message. I stood up from my chair and went upstairs to find Stella.
I looked at the pictures hanging on the wall. Some of them were a young version of Xander, and some of them with as a whole family. I stopped in front of a picture of Xander where he looked younger, carefree, and happier than he is today. He was looking at the camera with a goofy grin and a certificate in his hands. He looked so happy when he was younger, and I envy that happiness.
I shook my head and sighed. Now is not the time to be jealous of young Xander. I continued walking through the hallway in hopes of finding Stella, but she was nowhere to be found. Just as I was about to give up, I heard a voice whispering inside a room. And that voice sounded familiar.
"She's here with Xander, and he wouldn't let her out of his sight." I heard Stella' s voice scoff irritably. I took a closer step to the door and leaned my head on it.
"I'm doing everything I can, but you must understand that he's my brother and I don't want to keep doing this to him anymore." She continued, her voice cracking and she sounded as if she was crying.
"I told you everything I can about the war, Adriana! What more do you want? Just . . . please release my mate. He didn't do anything." She cried.
I froze. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest. Adriana? How could she do this? How could she betray her Alpha like that?
I took a step back before walking away as quietly as I could.
