Chapter 8

My Alpha Mate

Chapter 8

Sam

It's been two days since Cameron found me in the woods and let me stay in his pack. I feel really worried because I know that Xander is capable of anything— being the alpha of the second most powerful pack in the world and all. I feel guilty for making him feel worried, but leaving was the only way I could think of to make sure that he and his pack are safe.

I'm in the guest room in Cameron's pack, trying to figure out to leave without Xander finding me when a knock startled me.

"Hey, would you like to go out for lunch?" Cameron asks from the doorway.

"Um, sure, I guess," I replied.

"Great, come on."

We walked out of the packhouse and made our way to a blue Lamborghini. I made my way to the passenger side and sat down, putting my seat belt on while waiting for Cameron. He got in the car and started to drive us to town.

He parked in front of a small cafe and got out of the car. I followed him inside and we sat down at a booth. We ordered and waited for our food.

"So, how long do you plan on hiding from your mate?" Cameron asks.

I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, playing with the hem of my shirt.

"Um, I-I'm not sure. I guess I'll have to wait until my old pack stops looking for me to make sure that Xander and his pack is safe." I answered.

"You know you can just tell Xander why you ran away. He's the alpha of the second most powerful pack in the world. I'm sure that with my help he won't have a problem fighting your old pack," Cameron tried to reassure me.

It's true that Xander won't have a problem fighting my old pack, but it would make feel a whole lot better if I'm not in his land, and making sure that they're safe.

"I guess you're right, but it would make me feel better if I'm not in his territory, just to ensure his and his pack's safety," I told him.

He looked at me for a few seconds, analyzing me, before shaking his head and letting out a sigh. I frowned, what did I do? Did I do something wrong? Our food arrived, interrupting my train of thoughts. I ate slowly, thinking about all the things that could happen to Xander if my pack decides to declare war on his pack. I only ate half of my food, feeling full already. I pushed my plate away and just sat there.

'I wonder how my brothers are doing right now. They may have hurt me, but they're still my brothers. I hope they're doing okay, and despite the scar that they gave me, I still love them. I could only hope that they're missing me too, but I doubt that.' I thought sadly.

"You're done eating?" Cameron asks with a frown.

I nodded, not wanting to speak. Cameron paid for our food before making our way back to his pack house. He leads me inside his office and told me to do anything I want. I was sitting on his couch when his phone suddenly started to ring.

"Alpha Cameron speaking,"

"Hello Cameron, it's Xander. I was wondering if I could have a look into your territory to see if my mate stopped by your pack. I'm checking in with every neighboring pack to see if my mate left a scent that could help us track her." I heard Xander's voice boom from the phone. I sat there in shock. He's doing what now? Cameron gave me a smile before answering Xander.

"Of course. When do you plan on stopping by?"

"Tomorrow," I heard Xander reply curtly.

"Of course. I'll see you tomorrow, Alpha Woods," Cameron said before hanging up.

"Well, looks like your mate will be visiting us tomorrow," Cameron said in a joking voice, trying to lighten the tense atmosphere that has fallen in the room.

I looked at him uneasily "I have to leave and go back to his pack. Xander can declare a war on your pack if he finds out that I'm hiding in your pack."

He looked at me before nodding "Are you sure?"

I looked at him before giving him a small smile.

"Positive."

"Okay, when are you leaving?"

"Tonight," I told him.

"I'll escort you back to your pack. Don't worry, I won't actually go inside his land, I'll just drop you off by the territory mark," he assured after seeing the worried look on my face.

"You know you don't have to do this," I tried telling him but he was shaking his head before I even finished my sentence.

"But I want to. Don't worry, everything will be alright." I looked at him and nodded.

*-*-*-*

It's around ten at night when I decided to tell Cameron that I'm ready to go back to Xander's pack. He took about ten men with him before hopping into a Jeep and waiting for me to get inside. As soon as I got in, Cameron drove to the direction of Xander's territory.

The whole ride was silent and nobody said a word. After about an hour and a half of driving, we reached the mark of Xander's land. We got out of the Jeep and Cameron walked me by the mark of the territory.

"I'm going to miss having you in my pack," Cameron said, before pulling me close to his chest in a bone-crushing hug. I hugged him back and ignored my wolf's whine of protests.

I just smiled at him and gave him a small wave before entering Xander's land. Before I could move any further, a familiar voice stopped me dead in my tracks and made my wolf yip in excitement.

"Well, too bad that she won't be going back to your pack, right?" Xander's voice rang in the forest. He appeared in front of me, about five meters away from me, with his arms crossed across his chest and glaring threateningly at Cameron and his men behind me, Liam and Blake by his side. I looked behind Xander and saw about thirty wolves behind him, some of them are shifted and some of them are in their human form.

"Sam, come here." Xander's strong voice commanded, making me flinch and cower in fear. I saw his eyes soften slightly before hardening again.

"Come. Here. Now." Xander said again with a vicious edge in his voice.

"Don't talk to her that way." I heard Cameron's voice jump into my defense, making the situation a whole lot worse. Xander narrowed his eyes at Cameron, glaring threateningly at him. The men who were with Cameron growled lowly after seeing the glare that Xander sent his way, and in response, the men surrounding Xander growled too.

"Samantha, I won't ask again. Come. Here. Now." Xander's voice held a finality, making me whimper and my wolf purr in delight. I walked towards Xander and he immediately pulled me into his chest as soon as I was within arms reach.

"Liam, escort Sam back into our house. I'll deal with her later, but for now . . ." Xander's voice trailed off as he glared at Cameron, taking a step forward. The wolves surrounding Cameron immediately jumped in front of Cameron, trying to protect him.

"I don't want to fight, Xander. I just want to make sure that Sam gets back to your pack safely." Cameron said in a calm tone. How in the world can he be so calm like that?

Xander analyzed Cameron with a cold look on his face "I will let you go this time because you took such good care of my mate," Xander gave me a cold look, making me flinch and hide behind Liam "But if this happens again next time, you and your men won't be so lucky. Got it?"

"Understood. Just make sure that Sam is safe at all times," Cameron said, giving me a reassuring smile. I immediately know what he was talking about, and gave him a small smile in return.

"Of course she'll be safe with me! She's my mate!" Xander growled out.

"I know that," Cameron said, "We will be leaving now."

"Take care, Sam. And don't worry, everything will be okay." Cameron smiled at me before getting on the Jeep with his me and driving away.

"Sam, go back to our house. I will deal with you later, but for now, I need to let my wolf out." Xander said in a cold voice making me and my wolf whimper. I nodded and followed Liam back to mine and Xander's house, feeling nervous the entire way.
