Chapter 5

The Alpha's Curve

"My Son has been away for 5 years and today we welcome him back." My Father paused as many wolves cheered. He then raised his hand and the cheering ceased. "I am glad to have my Son back and because he is back, it means that I can finally step down from being your Alpha and turn the job over to Zithanial."

I stood shocked staring at Father. I knew that he was going to hand the Alpha-ship down to me, but I didn't expect it so soon.

“But before I do that, there is one more task Zithanial needs to complete.” Father started again, the crowd was silent waiting for his announcement, even I was wondering what he could be talking about. “As soon as Zithanial finds his Mate, then he can take his place as Alpha with Luna by his side.”

This didn’t come as much as a shock, I knew how highly Alpha Stone valued Mates. After the twist ending of the speech, Father dismissed the pack so they could get back to the ‘party.’

I look around taking in the scene.

Well, my Mate is not in this pack. Which means I am going to have to go and travel around to other packs.

“We will find our Mate, and we will find her soon. I can feel it.” says my Wolf.

I agree. She must be in a neighbouring pack.

“No, I mean she is here and close by.” My Wolf argued.

Don’t be stupid, I have been touched by every available female in the pack, and some of them I never want to touch again. The smell of many other male wolves lingered in their scent.

“Your wrong.” My Wolf replied.

Well then, where is she?

Not here, but she will be. Soon.

I glance down at my watch to find that it is already 4:50pm. Man this day has been a long one. I decide to find Saxon and the others to at least be near others my age, and not stand here like a statue by myself. Hopefully they are playing football or something, I feel like running around and burning up some energy in me.

I weave my way through the sea of other wolves until I hear the increasingly familiar shouts of guys mucking around. Only I expected to find Saxon being the centre of the amusement, but he was off to the side pacing with Adrian standing behind him looking concerned. As I came closer I saw that Saxon was mumbling, so I stranded my Alpha hearing to pick up what he was saying. Even doing that was hard because of all the noise going on.

I was only able to pick up parts of what he was saying.

“She — be back — now — where — she — bitch—-“ Saxon’s mumbling and pacing was stopped when he realised I was walking towards him.

Strange, what was Saxon going on about? Who was he going on about?

I catch Adrian’s eye and see the same look I saw earlier, like he was having an inner battle with himself. Which reminds me to ask about Ame—

My thoughts are cut off by Saxon, “Hey Zithanial, there is something I have been meaning to discuss with you. It is about a certain pack.” He starts with a very annoyed look on his face. Adrain has the same look, but I feel it is directed more towards Saxon than what Saxon is thinking about.

“I think we should talk about this somewhere more private. Lets go into the house.” Saxon states and starts walking towards the house, not even looking to see if I or Adrain follows. I stay planted in the ground with Adrain a couple paces to my right, waiting for Saxon to realise we have not followed.

Who is he to think he can just command an Alpha-to-be? It is not going to be like how it was when we were kids, I am not going to follow him around like a lost pup anymore. I am the Alpha here and it is time he acknowledged this.

A couple seconds later Saxon emerged from the crowd look extremely irritated. “Why didn’t you follow me?” He snarled out. “I was almost at the house when I realised you didn’t follow. Do you know how stupid I must have looked walking there only to turn back without doing anything?”

“Can’t be more than normal.” I say back trying to stop my anger from rising.

“What did you just say to me?” Saxon spat out.

“You heard me.” Taking a step forward I straightened to my full height, which towered over Saxon’s tall frame. “How dare you speck to me like that! I am an Alpha and you thing you can just boss me around? Well, you got another thing coming. If you are going to be my Beta, you will be taking my orders, not the other way around. Have I made myself clear?” I say in a low and gruff voice, allowing my agitated Wolves voice leak into my words.

By now many wolves have stop what they are doing and are focused on the hostile situation going on between their future Alpha and Beta.

Saxon, for the first time, look scared. He swallows loudly, “Crystal clear.”

“Good, now we can discuss what you wanted but it will be on my order.” I look up to see the crowd. “Back to the celebration, this is over now.”

Many of the wolves were quick to look away and get back to the activity they were just doing. I start walking towards the house, signalling for Saxon and Adrian to follow.

How dare he think that he can tell us what to do! My Wolf roars.

Please, quiet for now. I need to concentrate on the tasks at hand, I can’t be having 2 conversations at once.

Fine, but you will allow me to vent later.

Of course.

We had just arrived inside the house when we heard a. THUD. on the floor above us. The three of us sprung into action, all thinking it could be an intruder. We all take doors, the first one I check is empty so I move to another. As I get further and further down the hallway, the scent I smelt when I first go into the house because stronger and stronger.

Coconut and vanilla.

I also note how increasingly pissed off Saxon gets as we reach the last door. This is where the smell is strongest.

MATE. My Wolf roared in my head. SHE IS HERE.

Mate.

I reach for the door handle and quickly open the door to reveal the room. I rush in first, closely followed by Saxon then Adrian.

The first thing I lay eyes on is not a thing at all. She is a beautiful Mate.
