When it Raynes: Chapter 40
When it Raynes: A Dark Mafia Romance (Frost Industries Book 1)
âFuck!â I roar. Menâs voices fill the other end of the line right alongside Emersonâs soft cries. She needs me and Iâm not there. She needs me and I canât fucking get to her fast enough.
I take a corner too quickly and barely miss three cars before Iâm speeding off. I donât have time to worry about them and I dare any police officer in this fucking city to think about trying to give me a ticket.
Hesitantly, I end the call and dial Everett. âIâve got her trackers active on my screens at the moment, and Iâm watching them on the traffic cameras. Your girlâs a fucking badass.â
I huff out a relieved sigh. âWhat is she doing? Iâm about five minutes away.â
âWell, she disarmed one guy and took his gun, which sheâs now pointing at the rest of them,â Everett tells me.
âAre the other teams mobilizing? I want everyone that works for us apart from those who are protecting the penthouse.â
âIâve pulled all security apart from the bare minimum and Cameron, who is on her dad. I thought she wouldnât take kindly to you putting him in danger for her.â
âOkay good. Do you think she can hold them off until help gets there?â The question poses itself before I can think better of it, before I can consider that the answer may not be what I want to hear.
âHoly fuck,â Everett hoots. âShe just shot a guy. I like this girl, brother. Lock this one down.â
I growl. âBelieve me when I say a ring is going on her finger the moment I have her safe. The sooner she has the Saint James name, the better.â
âRayne, you need to speed up.â The jovial Everett I spoke to just a few moments ago is gone and the fear in his voice tells me all I need to know.
Iâm too late.
âIâm going as fast as I can,â I mutter as I change lanes again, weaving through traffic dangerously. âFollow them on the cameras. Theyâll check her for trackers.â
âIâm way ahead of you. Fuck. Rayne.â His words sound pained and I know why. This could so easily have been Wynter. This is the reason he left her, the reason he broke both their hearts, because being with him only put her in danger, and that wasnât an option for him. He would do anything for her, including live on the sidelines of her life, never able to touch her or hold her when she cried. But he did it for her. âWeâll get her back. I promise weâll get her back.â
I nod despite knowing he canât see me, because I need to keep telling myself that. We have to get her back. There isnât any other option than me having her back in my arms.
Iâve never felt more hopeless than I do right now.
âFuck!â Everett booms on the other end of the line.
âWhat is it?â
âI know where theyâre going, but I donât know how the fuck weâre going to get her out.â
âWhere?â I growl.
âAces. They may as well have a fucking army surrounding the place. You were right about trackers. All the ones we had stopped at the accident site, they must have scanned her before they started driving.â
âI want you on the ground with us.â
âIâm on my way out of the office right now. Storm is enroute and so is Tommy. Iâve pulled the cityâs building records as well so we can make a plan of attack.â
I hang up the phone and change directions toward the club I hoped she would never step foot in again.
Donât worry, sweet girl, Iâm coming for you.
