Becoming Friends

“Get in the car. There are some drunk men over there who have stared at you for a long time.” Lu Zhen explained the situation briefly, then asked Tiny to pull the door open.

Li Ya’s heart skipped a beat as she turned around. There were indeed a few drunk men at the entrance of the bar. All of them looked like they weren’t to be trifled with.

She hesitated, then got into Lu Zhen’s car.

Lu Zhen sat on the left, Sun Xiao sat in the middle, and Li Ya, who got into the car later, sat on the right. Although there was a person between them, Li Ya was still extremely nervous! She wasn’t a fan of Lu Zhen, but when she saw Lu Zhen’s beautiful face, her heart raced.

Oh God, could she be gay? Li Ya felt suffocated. She was so nervous her hands were shaking.

Lu Zhen looked at Li Ya from the corner of her eye. She didn’t expect Li Ya to be such a young and cute girl before she became famous. Her rosy lips curled up slightly.

Earlier, she had said that there were a few drunk men over there. That was true, but she wasn’t sure if they were staring at Li Ya. However, she didn’t have any ill intentions about giving Li Ya a ride. She didn’t have to fuss about such a small detail.

“Hello, my name is Lu Zhen,” Lu Zhen introduced herself formally, then smiled easily. “But presumably you have heard my name.”

Li Ya flushed and nodded several times. “Yes, yes, I know. My—my name is Li Ya.”

“Then I’ll call you Xiao Ya.” Lu Zhen looked at her kindly.

Li Ya felt as if countless stars had appeared in front of her eyes. Xiao Ya… Lu Zhen called her Xiao Ya. Was she dreaming?

“You’re a singer?” Lu Zhen looked at the guitar on Li Ya’s back and changed the subject.

“I’m not really a singer. I’m just a resident at a bar.” Li Ya smiled sheepishly. Most singers with a little fame didn’t go to a small bar. Those who did were either short of money or unremarkable singers who had to go to a bar to get a feel for the stage.

Therefore, after she finished speaking, she subconsciously worried that Lu Zhen would look down on her.

To her surprise, Lu Zhen looked at her in surprise and exclaimed, “A resident singer? That’s impressive.”

Li Ya looked at Lu Zhen’s innocent and sincere smile and felt a warm feeling in her heart, even though she suspected that Lu Zhen might not even know what a resident singer was.

However, the silly and cute Lu Zhen seemed endearing… As Li Ya thought about it, she suddenly suspected that she was really gay. She blushed and said humbly in a panic, “No, I was forced to due to circumstances.”

Lu Zhen nodded and looked at her again. “It will take another twenty minutes to get to your house. Why don’t you sing for us?”

Li Ya’s face flushed. That would be so embarrassing! Was she qualified to sing in front of Lu Zhen? A person like Lu Zhen probably listened to the concerts of famous superstars. She was just a bar singer. What right did she have to make Lu Zhen her audience?

But seeing Lu Zhen’s expectant gaze, Li Ya nodded and carefully took out her guitar. It had just been used and didn’t need tuning. She plucked the strings twice. “Then I’ll sing a song I wrote. It’s called ‘North Star.'”

A few seconds later, a fresh and smooth melody sounded in the car. The girl’s voice was sweet, with a hint of hoarseness. Her voice was very special, giving the song a mellow and sorrowful undertone.

When Li Ya sang, it was a completely different feeling. She seemed to be in a world of her own, a world in which she was the sole protagonist. And because of that, she seemed to glow.

Lu Zhen finally understood why she had become so popular afterward.

After the song, Li Ya came out of her state and smiled sheepishly.

“It’s nice, and the melody is special.” Lu Zhen was an amateur and she didn’t know how to appreciate the song from a professional point of view. She just looked at Li Ya sincerely to show how much she liked it. “I love it.”

Li Ya’s eyes widened, stunned by Lu Zhen’s frankness. “Thank you,” she said nervously.

“Why don’t we leave our contact details? I think you’ll definitely become popular in the future. I know you now, so I’ll be a fan from now on!” Lu Zhen blinked mischievously and looked at Li Ya expectantly.

Li Ya felt as if she was in a beautiful dream. She was still dazed. She nodded and added Lu Zhen’s contact details.

After a while, Li Ya got out of the car. Lu Zhen waved at her warmly and watched her leave.
