Call It Off [Boy X Boy]

The last chapter

Alexs POV

*Their two year anniversary*

I tuck my tie into the blazer and look over myself.

"Stop being so nervous." I tell myself before slipping the tiny box into my pocket.

I check in the mirror to make sure it isn't noticeable but that's when Ethan comes up behind me, standing on his tippy toes and wrapping his arms around my neck. He presses his head onto my shoulder.

"Hey." He says quietly.

"Hey." I say almost breathless.

Two years of dating and I still never get tired of him.

"Are you almost ready?" He asks.

"I'm almost never ready for a dinner and then a party." I chuckle.

"Yes but the dinner is just us. And then the party is family. They want to celebrate with us. You know they're always happy for us and how far we've come." He smiles at me through the mirror.

"I know. I know. I just wish I had more us time." I turn around to face him, putting my hands on his waist.

"We had time last night. And the night before." He winks at me.

I roll my eyes.

"Let's get going you pervert." I shake my head.

"Says the one that would be totally willing to skip dinner just to have fun." Ethan laughs.

"Don't tempt me." I say before walking out of the room and down to the car.

Ethan is honestly going to be the death of me.

"I've missed Astor." Ethan says as he is getting in the car.

"You'll see him soon enough. The party is in three hours. I think you can last that long considering you've lasted two nights without him." I look over and him and then start the car.

"Yes but he was only supposed to be gone for one. Before deciding to ditch us and stay at your moms for another night." He whines.

"What are you gonna do when he goes off to college?"

"Cry." He says in an instant.

"We'll discuss it another time I suppose." I try to brush off the topic.

Exposing my idea before doing a different idea could confuse and mess up things. I'm not willing to do that.

I park the car and get out, running over and opening Ethan's door.

"You don't have to." He blushes and smiles as he gets out.

I close the door behind him and grab his hand.

"Of course I do."

We walk into the restaurant and at this point they know me very well. We come at least once a month for a date night. And I may have called many times to prepare this date.

"Right this way Mr. Pierce and Mr. Ezell."

He leads us to our usual table, secluded from everyone else.

"Are you going to try something new this time?" I ask as we sit down.

"Probably not, you know I-" He gets cut off.

"What would you like to drink." Our waiter comes up and makes eye contact with Ethan

"Coke please." Ethan says.

I go to say what I like but she never turns her eyes to me. She continues starring at Ethan.

Ethan looks between the two of us and I raise my eyebrows at him. He didn't realise. He didn't understand.

"What would you like babe." Ethan says to me.

She scrunches her eyebrows together and looks at me. Her eyes go wide.

"A coke as well. Thank you." I smirk.

Ethan chuckles as she walks away.

"Always get the people going for you." I shake my head.

"I'm just that attractive." He flashes me a bright smile.

My heart.

"That you are. Now what were you saying before? About trying new food?" I ask.

"You know I don't like trying new foods. Too scared to waste the money if I don't like it."

I roll my eyes.

"What." He whines

"I'll let you try some of mine." I smile.

The waiter comes back and places our drinks now.

"What would you two like to order." She forces a smile.

We place our orders and she walks away.

"So are you looking forward to the party?" I look from my drink to him.

"Kind of. I love seeing family. It just exhausts me sometimes. Your mother is so bubbly. My mom and sister are sweet. Everyone is just always so positive and I don't know how they do it. Plus the long shifts I work sometimes at the hospital? If I worked one last night we wouldn't even be here right now. I'd be passed out at home." He sighs.

Ethan did pick up a lot of shifts. He was worried about paying mom back even though she said it was nonsense. She takes the money he gives her and just puts it into an account for him later. He's gonna feel awful about it. Even I do. I want to tell him but I get where she's coming from at the same time.

"I know." I whisper and puts my hand on his.

I work at the dinner and have my hours scheduled around Astor with school. When he's at school, I'm at work. When he's off, I'm off. It's just so he has someone home with him. Ethan wanted to but sometimes it can't work like that. He does manage to be off on Saturdays. But not Sunday. Other than that, it just depends on the week. Same goes for hours. But that depends on the day.

"All is well though. We make it work." He smiles at me.

"Of course we do. Look at what we've been through." I smile.

Our food comes and we're both instantly excited. As promised, I give Ethan some so he can try it and his eyes lit up in delight. Clearly he needs to take more chances.

I continue eating my meal as he continues eating his. We don't really have much of a conversation due to our mouths being full but it's a comfortable silence.

When we finish, we pay and leave a decent tip even though she tried to flirt and we walk out.

"That was so good." Ethan smiles and rubs his stomach.

"You're so weird." I mumble as we reach the car.

"Am not." He whines.

"Are you. You just rubbed your stomach like a weirdo, in public." I look at him with a raised eyebrow.

"So what." He gets in the car.

"That's considered weird." I roll my eyes and start the car.

"Only to you." He challenges.

"Nope. Pretty sure it's weird to everyone." I glance over at him.

He shakes his head and goes silent.

This is when I start to get anxious. My hands are clammy and it's like my heart is hammering out of my chest.

"Why are you so nervous about a party?" Ethan asks, knowing me all to well.

"No idea." I shrug.

When we arrive, we park the car, get out and walk inside of the house. Instantly we're greeted by family and friends.

Everyone is smiling and excited.

"Happy anniversary boys." She smiles.

"We're not married mom, why do you make such a big deal." I whisper to her.

"I know you well enough." She winks.

She's right. She does know me well. She probably knows what I'm planning. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone did.

"Get together for a picture!" Nadine basically yells at me.

Ethan and I stand close, our arms wrapped around each others waists. We smile at the camera and she snaps a picture with her phone.

"Stay. Stay. We need Polaroids. Two." She smiles.

We stay in place. And she gets two more pictures, the flash burning my eyes.

"Now kiss." She smirks.

Ethan instantly turns to me and I feel my own blush creep up on my cheeks. But clearly he is okay with this, as he puts his lips on mine. My eyes close and I hear the sound of the Polaroid taking a picture.

"So cute!" She squeals.

I roll my eyes at her excitement of my relationship.

I walk over to my mom and hand her my phone, putting it on my camera.

"I suggest recording this." I whisper to her.

She nods at me, smirking.

I walk over to Ethan and hold his hands.

"So. I've thought about this more a while and-" I pause to get on one knee.

He gasps lightly.

"I met you a long time ago. Like ten or eleven years. And you've grown so much since then, and so have I. We are totally different people. But you still hold the same traits you used to. You're still sarcastic and have a good sense of humor. You're also usually happy, it's super weird." I chuckle.

He laughs too, his eyes watering.

"You've went through this once, but I am nothing like him. You make me happier. You've brought life to my life. You made me a better person. I used to be such a dick but the second I met you, something changed. I couldn't be ruthless to you. And my God do I love you Ethan Ezell." I smile at him.

I put my hand in my pocket and pull out the tiny box. I let go of his hand so I can open it and I show him.

"Will you marry me?" I practically whisper as my eyes begin to water.

He doesn't speak. He just cries and nods.

I take the ring out of the box and put it on his finger. I stand up and pull him into a tight hug. I feel him vibrate against me as he cries and laughs a little.

Everyone around us begins cheering and clapping.

When we let go, we kiss gently and then we are attacked by all of our friends and family.

"So much for just being here for homework, huh." I chuckle.

"Oh my god. I totally forgot about that. You used that as an excuse to your mom as to why I was here." He laughs.

"And she didn't believe us one bit." I smile and look over at my mom.

She just smiles at us.

I am so content.
