Chapter 1013
Substitutee Marriage: Fallingg For My Ugly Wifee
âWhatâs wrong?â
âI need you to design a bracelet for my mother. Her health has been declining recently, and sheâs
feeling quite down. I think a gift might lift her spirits,â the friend explained.
âItâs all on me,â Millie said with joy.
âGrace, I couldnât get a wink of sleep last night,â Millie confessed, resting her forehead on the desk.
Whenever she felt down, Grace was her most reliable confidante.
Marcus had been acting strangely lately, and she couldnât figure out why.
Angelaâs Library
âYou couldnât sleep? Whatâs going on? Share it with me, and Iâll help you make sense of it,â Grace
inquired right away.
âLast night, Marcus returned home too late. He woke me up, and I couldnât get back to sleep,â Millie
explained, withholding some of the details. She didnât want to appear as a woman consumed by lLove-
induced sorrow. She sought a carefree life, focusing on her career without love getting in the way.
But Marcusâ unusual behavior the previous night had thrown her off balance.
âIn my view, itâs not his lateness that troubled you, but the fact that you donât know why heâs always out
and returns late. Thatâs whatâs really bothering you, right? Millie, Iâm here for you, no matter what you
choose to do. Youâre his wife; you should insist that he be home by ten. You are more important than
the company,â
Grace firmly advised.
Millie blushed, realizing that Grace understood her perfectly.
âIs Marcus at the company now? If not, call him and ask what heâs up to. You should always know
where he is. Donât give others any opportunity.â
Later that afternoon, Marcus left the company. Millie watched his car drive away from her spot by the
window.
âI donât know if thatâs wise. What if heâs doing something important?â
Millie hesitated.
âSo what? Just ask quickly and hang up. Millie, you canât be timid when it comes to keeping your
husband in line!â Grace countered.
After their chat, Millie tapped her fingertips on the table, bolstering her courage. She called Marcus and
walked out of the design department.
The phone connected almost instantly.
âHoney,â Marcus whispered, signaling to someone nearby that he needed to take the call.
The background conversation ceased, and Millie, swallowing nervously, asked, âWhere are you?â
âIâm playing golf. Whatâs going on?â Marcus replied. He knew Millie wouldnât call without a reason, and
he wondered what prompted the call.
He wasnât lying. His schedule clearly showed a golf game with suppliers that afternoon.
Laughter erupted from the background. âCalling to check up on him during the day, huh? Mrs. Thomas,
you run a tight ship, donât you?â
Millieâs face turned crimson. What could she say? She just wanted to know where he was.
âMillie?â
âNothing. Keep going. Iâm hanging up.â Millie ended the call quickly, her embarrassment evident.
