Chapter 1022
Substitutee Marriage: Fallingg For My Ugly Wifee
âMillie.â
Looking up, Millie saw Marcus sprinting toward her, completely drenched, his once noble suit dripping.
âWhat are you doing here? I donât want to see you,â she declared, angling her body to avoid his gaze.
The more she looked at him, the more her heart ached.
Marcus said patiently, eyes fixed on Millie, âYouâve misunderstood.
Angelaâs Library
Sheâs interested in Harlan, not me.â
Though she was filled with disdain for Marcus at that moment, he felt a strange sense of joy. He was
deeply moved by Millieâs words during her spat with Mavis.
Millie remained unyielding, turning her back on him.
âDo you think Iâll believe you? Iâm no fool.â
The thought of Marcus taking another girl for a ride and kissing her in the car tormented her. She
believed he was merely using Harlan as a scapegoat.
Frustration creasing his brow, Marcus placed his hands on her trembling shoulders, forcing her to face
him.
âYou truly misunderstand. She genuinely likes Harlan. The rainâs too heavy; letâs go back first.â
Peering into his dark eyes, Millie hesitated. He seemed sincere, but she quickly dismissed the thought.
No, she couldnât trust his words. He was surely lying.
Not just because of what Mavis had told her, but Marcusâ recent unusual behavior had proven he was
hiding something.
Men were liars, always looking for the opportune moment to reveal the truth in a way that benefited
them.
Her father had lied to her mother back when he was having an affair with Gianna.
He had secretly transferred all the assets before confessing to her mother, leaving her with nothing
when they divorced.
âYouâre a liar. I wonât believe you. I hate you. Leave me alone!â
Millie stated defiantly.
Marcus was at a loss for words.
He had been deeply touched by Millieâs earlier sentiments, but now he felt utterly confounded by her
emotions.
Millie wouldnât even glance his way. If she remained soaked like this, she was sure to come down with
a fever, and the thought of her being sick filled him with concern.
âJust leave. You donât need to return to Cloud Villa anymore. Just stay here. I wonât call you or ask you
to come home early again,â
Millie told him.
