Chapter 1037
Substitutee Marriage: Fallingg For My Ugly Wifee
She sat down beside Harlan, extending her delicate ankle, indicating for him to fasten the anklet.
Harlanâs expression remained unyielding. An anklet?
He knew women liked to wear ornaments on their necks and wrists, but tying something around an
ankle was new to him.
He found it baffling and somewhat distasteful.
âWhy do you want me to do that?â
Blushing, Mavis elaborated.
âBecause if you fasten the anklet around my ankle yourself, it means youâve trapped me, and Iâm yours.
You can only like me.â

Just when Mavis thought she had succeeded, Harlan stood up, his face stern, threw the red rope at
her, and stalked to the balcony.
âI wonât do it. I donât have any interest in women. Donât make me do such peculiar things. And donât
come here anymore. Even if you do, I wonât have the servants open the door for you.â
The red rope brushed across Mavisâ face, causing a slight sting. But what truly ached was her heart,
and her eyes reddened.
âYouâre lying. You said you donât like any woman, but you Like Miss Brown.â
Suddenly, Harlan spun around, his eyes fierce.
âShut up!â
Mavis dared not say another word and lowered her head.
When Harlan turned back around, she had already gone. He retrieved the gun from under the pillow
and resumed his cleaning.
After departing Peninsula Villa, Mavis wandered along the road. Out of nowhere, she heard footsteps
behind her. As she turned, a sack was thrust over her head.
In a damp, forsaken house, Mavis was backed into a moldy corner.
âWhat⦠What are you doing? I donât know you at all.â
A man wielded a gleaming dagger, pressing it to her.
âTell me, what did you see in Peninsula Villa?â
What did she see in Peninsula Villa? Mavisâ lips began to tremble uncontrollably.
She immediately recalled Harlanâs warning.
âIf you tell anyone about Marcusâ injury, youâll meet a miserable end.â
At the time, she thought she could keep the secret, believing herself trustworthy. But now, faced with
danger, she had to choose between her life and her loyalty.
