âTheyâre concealed in the roadside grass,â he deduced.
Almost instantly, the gunfire grew, a rhythmic onslaught that left the bulletproof windows pocked and
cratered.
Marcusâ lips tightened.
âTheir firepower is overwhelming. The glass wonât withstand it.â
âWith the tire burst, the carâs useless. Whatâs our plan?â Derek asked.
âLeave the car. Head for the forest.â
Once outside, Marcus and Derek moved swiftly into the wooded area.
âTheyâve left the car and entered the forest!â came a shout.
âChase them!â
Gunfire pursued them into the dense forest.
After landing three successful shots, Marcus sought refuge behind a tree, panting heavily as rain
dripped from his resolute jaw. In the enveloping darkness, a faint sneer played on his Lips.

These attackers were experts, their skill a product of extensive training. Jonah and Bruce must have
invested much in their development.
But killing him was not going to be as easy as they thought.
With two resonating shots, Derek successfully incapacitated two assailants, then quickly sought cover
not far from Marcus.
âMr. Thomas, theyâre closing in again,â Derek informed, concern lacing his voice.
No sooner had he spoken than a searing bullet skimmed past Derekâs side. He briefly extended himself
to return fire but had to pull back swiftly.
A flashlightâs beam targeted their location.
âTheyâre behind those trees up ahead. Advance on them!â came a command.
Bruce, observing from a distance, gestured to someone beside him.
Interpreting the signal, that person separated from the main group and moved to flank.
Bruce signaled yet another person to approach from a different direction.
The assailants were swiftly closing the distance. Derek looked toward Marcus, determination in his
voice.
âMr. Thomas, Iâll provide cover. You need to get out of here.â
Marcusâ eyes lowered, his ears attuned to the sound of approaching footsteps. He knew that if he fled,
leaving Derek to face their enemies alone, Derekâs fate would be sealed.
